ENGLISH TOPICS FOR THE ORAL EXAM


FIRST LEVEL (1 minute)
FIRST PARTIAL ORAL EXAM

1. Introduce a person you admire or love. Give complete information about his/her
personal life (name, address, phone number, occupation, civil status, age,
country, nationality, favorite color, your relationship with this person, etc.)
2. Talk about the UTE students’ daily life and routines (daily schedules, telling
time, days of the week, prepositions of time, time expressions, jobs, workplaces,
duties).
3. Talk about the things you do on your free time and some good entertaining
activities you can find in Quito and its surroundings.
4. Your family tree. Talk about your family members. Describe family
relationships, physical appearance, age, names, important family items or
possessions. Only if possible you can bring a drawing or picture to illustrate
your presentation.
5. Convince your teacher to buy the house you are selling. Give a complete
description of the house. Bring pictures of the house to illustrate your
presentation.

SECOND PARTIAL ORAL EXAM

1. Describe your daily eating habits. What do you eat for breakfast, lunch, and
dinner? Give quantities.
2. Describe what you normally wear when you go to the university, a party, a
barbeque, and when you go to bed. Talk about the clothes you have.
3. Talk about your life in the past. What things did you like to do? Talk about your
school, friends, hobbies, etc.
4. Research about your favorite athlete or sports person. Tell about his or her life.
For example: When was he or she born? What did he or she do to become
famous?
5. Describe your future plans. How do you see your life in the next 20 years.

1. Describe the ingredients that you need for your favorite recipe and tell the
teacher how you prepare the dish with that recipe.

prefer going out of the city? Where? Explain the details.
3. Talk about some of the most common professions, people in Ecuador used to
choose 40 years ago. Were they the same for men and women?

1. What are some of the things you can do really well? And what are some of those
that you can’t?
2. Talk about some of the most important Ecuadorian traditions during the

of English did you have a week? Etc. Include information about your favorite
school subjects, teachers, and extra school activities.

FIRST PARTIAL ORAL EXAM

1. Research about one of the most popular sights in an English speaking country. Talk
about its importance, where it’s located, and the do’s and don’ts about when you visit it.
If possible bring pictures to illustrate your presentation.

2. Talk about a famous or personal ghost story or about real-life mysteries. Give as
much information as you can about it. How did you feel when you heard about them?
Do you think they are true? Are there any logical explanations about them?

3. Do some research about vegetarian people. State your opinion about the pros and
cons of being vegetarian. Talk about Ecuador its food and people’s interest in
vegetarianism.

4. Do some research about geographical, environmental, and cultural features of two
countries. Be ready to compare and contrast them. If possible bring pictures to
illustrate your presentation.

5. Talk about an adventurous vacation you have had. Describe the whole experience,
talk about sports, activities, means of transportation, etc.


SECOND LEVEL (1.5 minutes)
SECOND PARTIAL ORAL EXAM

1. Report a recent interview you heard on TV, radio, or read in the newspaper. Find and
give as much information you can about the interviewer and the people interviewed.
Use Reported Speech.

2. Do some research about important technological inventions. State your opinion. Find
and give as much information you can about them.

3. Talk about how life in Ecuador has changed in the last century. Compare it to today’s
Ecuadorian life.

4. Talk about your favorite website. What can you find on this website? Why do you
like it? What does it offer? Print out important information that would help you
illustrate your presentation.

5. Imagine you are from one of the following English speaking countries: England,
Canada, United States, or New Zealand. A friend of you is planning to come to your
country on vacation for the first time. Give him/her all the necessary information for
his/her trip and say what you plan to do together.

FINAL ORAL EXAM

1. What do you do to protect the environment? Prepare an environmental campaign
that would convince your classmates to protect the environment of a specific area in
your country. Bring a poster or brochure to illustrate your presentation if possible.
2. What is a UFO? Talk about UFO Evidence. Talk about the UFO phenomenon,
documents and resources, people involved, UFO evidence organizations, government
and military participation, etc. Bring pictures if possible to illustrate your presentation.

3. Do some research about typical food from different foreign countries. Give
information about how to prepare it, ingredients, cultural traditions surrounding them,
etc.

SECOND LEVEL (1.5 minutes)
SUPPLEMENTARY ORAL EXAM

1. Do some research about an unusual or traditional sport. Give complete background
information about it. (Where was it originated? How is it played? Where is it played?
Have the game rules changed? Do people still continue practicing this sport? Etc.)

2. Imagine you are a latin dance instructor and in this precise moment you are in front of
your class. Teach them how to dance salsa, merengue, zamba, etc. use commands so
they can follow your instructions.

3. Imagine you are a doctor. You are at the emergency room and a terrible accident has
just happened. Talk about the patients medical conditions. What are you and your
colleagues going to do to help these people?
