CLIMATE OUTLOOK FOR JUNE AUGUST, 2014 RAINFALL SEASON
This statement summarizes the current and future state of climate systems
and associated weather during June-August 2014 period over the country.
1. WEATHER AND CLIMATE SYSTEMS
limate system and model forecast indicates a li!elihood of warm "ea
"urfaces Temperature #""Ts$ over the entral %&uatorial 'acific during
June to August 2014 period. "light warm ""Ts are e(pected over the
western )ndian *cean while cool ""T" are e(pected over the eastern
Atlantic *cean. This condition is e(pected to influence westerly wind flow
across the country. *n the other hand+ warmer ""Ts conditions are
e(pected over the southern tip of Africa and are li!ely to influence southerly
wind flow towards the country during the period. "hort periods of enhanced
southerly wind flow are also li!ely during the month of July 2014.

The a,ove configuration is li!ely to result into mild cold conditions during
June to August 2014 period. -owever+ occasional rains are anticipated at
times over+ .a!e /ictoria ,asin+ high-grounds and coastal areas.

2.1 MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK FOR JUNE-AUGUST, 2014
0uring June-August period+ most parts of the country usually e(perience
dry and cold conditions. The June-August 2014 temperature forecasts
indicate li!elihood of warm minimum temperatures. -owever+ it should ,e
noted that+ minimum temperatures are more relevant during night times
and early morning hours. The outloo! for the minimum temperatures is

2.2 RAINFALL OUTLOOK FOR JUNE-AUGUST, 2014
Although June-August period usually e(periences dry weather conditions+
occasional rains are e(pected over the .a!e /ictoria 2asin+ 5orth-eastern
highlands and over the northern coast. The details are as follows9

;. IMPACTS AND AD"ISORY
.i!elihood of e(periencing normal weather conditions over most parts of
the country. -owever+ for all temperature sensitive sectors appropriate
measures should ,e ta!en to ensure preparedness+ response+ and
mitigation of any negative impacts resulting from the e(pected weather
conditions. )t is advisa,le to use the forecast together with the shorter time
scale forecasts issued regularly ,y the Agency.
The Agency strongly advices all users including agriculture+ food security+
livestoc!+ wildlife+ water resources+ health sectors+ etc to see! professional
advice from e(perts in their respective sectors with regard to the e(pected
climate conditions.
