Milan
Gurus, Radios, Hammers &
Observers (or: Italian
designers, how - digitally -
sociable are they?)
It's the first draft of a research work I did together
with Remo Ricchetti and Gioia Guerzoni. Lots of
interesting datas, lots of unknown people. Design
world is going through a fantastic paradigm shift
and few people are noticing it!

It is not about the most (digitally) sociable Italian
designers. It is about "who is a designer" and what
he/she does.
More will follow, stay tuned...

Charcoal goes design.
A new (great) work by Formafantasma.
"With its latest project, Eindhoven-based studio
Formafantasma is seeking to explore the tradition,
nostalgia and negative connotations of charcoal
burning.
While the process was once internationally
paramount, over 20th century it became widely
banned due to resulting deforestation and C02
emissions.
'We drew inspiration from the tension between the
dystopian connotation of charcoal, causing
pollution and destruction, while also being
employed in healthcare and water purification,
says Andrea Trimarchi of Formafantasma."

and Jana + Koos.
Using natural language processing techniques,
English-language tweets are collected and
analyzed for sentiment, location and foodstuff.
We capture, in real time, the foods that people
are tweeting about and how they feel about them.
We then add a layer of public data about
countries obesity and wealth to better understand
the global food landscape.

Leibniz's Cabinet (Thanks to
Vincentius Placcius)
This is supernice (thanks to Molly Wright Steenson,
via Twitter). This is the explanation:
"The cabinet was designed by Vincentius Placcius.
It had 3,000 hooks for topics, each with places
where you could hang scraps of paper with notes
pertaining to those topics.
BTW, I came across a fascinating blog on note
taking that says that Leibniz had perhaps a million
notes on scraps of paper, and owned a Placcius
cabinet. Leibniz certainly corresponded with
Placcius."

This is another project I really like. It is a great
work by Anne Romme, a supertalented designer
from Denmark.
Here you can see it in its built version: http:

project are actually very interesting and smart).
