Heat Treatment Consumables and Spares
Mannings
Auto programmer/controller (P-256)
The P-256 programmer is a
compact automatic heat
treatment control unit. By means
of microprocessor control the unit
provides program control of a
single heat treatment cycle, to
six output control channels. In
addition, if required, each output

control channel can be set to
manual control whereby, for each
channel, a single temperature
can be selected. The controller
will then raise the temperature
of the workpiece to the selected
temperature and maintain it at
that level.

Temperature controller
The CXT1000 temperature
controller provides temperature
control to a single output channel.
The controller can be set to
manual control whereby for each
channel a single temperature can
be selected. The controller will
then raise the temperature of the
workpiece to the selected
temperature and maintain it at
that level. The unit displays both
workpiece and set point
temperatures.

Superwool insulation
Superwool is a high temperature
insulating fibre blanket
manufactured from Calcium
Magnesium Silicate. This material
has a thermal performance
equivalent to refractory ceramic
fibre up to 1200'C. However,
unlike ceramic fibre, Superwool
is body soluble and has a larger
needle particle size. These
qualities mean that Superwool
represents a lower respiratory
hazard than ceramic fibre,
Stock Reference
although, as with all high
temperature insulating fibre,
normal respiratory protection in
the form of an appropriate dust
mask should be worn during
handling.
Superwool is available in a range
of mat sizes, protected by a
stainless steel mesh to extend
the working life of the insulation.
Alternatively, Superwool is also
supplied in unmeshed rolls.

IMANNINGS!
Mannings use the highest
quality materials available in
the construction of our Flexible
Ceramic Pad (FCP) heating
elements. These materials
make the heating elements
highly durable, which extends
the usable life of Mannings
heating elements beyond that
normally expected. This
extended life, high durability
and reliability combine to save
you money by:
o Reducing reworks and lost
time due to heating element
failures.
o Reducing your annual costs
for replacing or repairing failed
or damaged heating elements.
Mannings ceramic heating
elements are constructed from
(All dimensions are nominal)
Alumina content
Bulk density fired
Grain size
Vickers hardness
Rockwell hardness
Compressive strength
Flexural strength
Young's modulus
Thermal conductivity
high grade sintered alumina
ceramic beads, Nickel-Chrome
core wire and Nickel cold tail
wire. The construction allows
the heating element to be
flexible and provides high heat
transfer efficiency.
Mannings insist on using high
quality, ceramic beads, with a
high resistance to thermal and
physical shock, in the
construction of FCP ceramic
heating elements.
The important physical
properties, which make these
beads superior to other beads
used in the heat treatment
industry, are detailed in the
ceramic bead physical
properties table below:

These beads are supplied to
Mannings by one of the leading,
ISO 9002 accredited, specialist
ceramic manufacturers in the
ceramic industry.
The cold tails of Mannings
ceramic heating elements are
butt welded to the heater core
wire which eliminates the cold
tail/core wire junction failures
often seen with low quality
heaters which use steel ferrules.
By selection, from the extensive
range of Mannings FCP heating
elements, any pipe size or pipe
configuration can be covered
so that the correct amount of
heating power can be applied
to successfully heat treat the
pipe weld or other fabrication.
Mannings FCP heating
elements are manufactured
with a range of power ratings
for use with a selection of
standard voltages. If you require
any special heating element
configuration, voltage or power
rating, Mannings will use their
heat treatment engineering
expertise to provide you with a
heating element custom built to
meet your exact needs.
Mannings FCP heating
elements can, if handled
correctly, be used approximately
fifty times at temperatures up to
10500C (1922°F).
Mannings can provide higher
temperature heating elements
if required which can be used
repeatedly at temperatures up
to 12000C (2192°F).

The well renowned Mannings
6 channel Automatic P256
Programmer/Controller, has been
developed to be used in
conjunction with Mannings' heat
treatment Transformer Units to
provide automatic temperature
process control of up to six
Transformer Unit output
channels.
Each control channel can either
be operated for manual
temperature control of the
workpiece, or in automatic mode.
Inautomatic mode, the channel
controller will ensure that the
control zone temperature closely
follows the temperature rise, hold
and fall and hold period
parameters programmed by
the operator.
By means of microprocessor
controlled programming, LCD
display and push button
operation, programming and
operation of the unit are kept
simple and user friendly.
degrees centigrade, as this level
of negative temperature could
indicate a potentially hazardous
reversed thermocouple condition.
The LCD display provides visual
indication of the running heat
treatment program status and
control zone output. In addition,
individual control zone noons
indicate when a control zone
contactor is energised.
An important feature of the P256
is the 'Reversed Thermocouple
Cut-out.' This feature
automatically cuts out the control
zone contactor, and hence heater
power, when any control zone
thermocouple input indicates a
temperature of minus forty

Mannings mobile power units have
achieved a world wide reputation
for cost effective design, quality
and reliability.The units are built
and tested by qualified engineers,
the reputation of the Mannings
brand stands amongst the best
inthe world.
Mannings power units have been
successfully operated on heat
treatment projects insome of the
most demanding climates around
the world, for almost 50 years.
I
The power units are housed ina
rigid heavy gauge sheet steel
cabinet and are finished in a
durable high quality paint finish.
They have a low centre of gravity,
and are well balanced with mobility
being provided by four 6" wheels.
Technical Description - this unit
provides a 60 volt supply for
powering various types of low
voltage heating elements.
The unit consists of an air natural
3 phase transformer which is built
into a well finished and compactly
designed robust sheet steel case,
switching is by contactors and its
rugged and reliable design gives
the unit long on site working life.
The output channels are controlled
by means of energy regulators and
temperature controllers, provision is
made for connection to external
control fromany compatible
programrner/control unit.
Each channel has its own
auto/manual switch so any
channel can be operated either
automatically, via an external
compatible programmer unit, or
manually by means of the internal
energy regulator and
temperature controller.
The unit is protected against
overcurrent and core
overtemperature conditions and has
afacilityto be tripped remotelyfrom
a compatible 11OVoutput device
(forexample a remote workpiece
overtemperature device).

The 12 point Chino Temperature
Recorder has been chosen by
Mannings as the standard
recording instrument for on-site
pre and post weld heat treatment.
Each recorder is contained within
a rugged steel case to minimise
wear and tear, with rear mounted
thermocouple sockets for ease of
connection and with a 2m, 11OV
a.c. power lead, with fitted three
pin 11OVplug.
The standard scale supplied is
o- 1200 degrees C, other scales
can be provided on request.
Power supply and chart drive
switches are accessible from the
front of the recorder via a clear
glass door.
Chart drive speed can be varied
in 4 discrete steps to represent
12.5, 25, 50 or 100mm per hour
by selecting the appropriate push
button setting on the front panel.
Afast advance feature is also
found on this panel.
With the chart drive speed set
at 50mm per hour, each chart
refillwill last for approximately
360 hours.
Aprinted waming is visible on the
right side of the chart 12 hours
prior to a refill being required.
Each input is individually recorded
on the chart paper using a multi
coloured printing system.
The chart and the scale plate
are illuminated by an integral strip
light contained within the door
assembly.
