Youth Empowerment Services (YES) Announces education Workshop Focused on Childhood Obesity and the Correlation of the Lack of Physical Activity and Mental Health.
The YMCA and Rockbridge County Community Services Board announce a new educational workshop, called YES (The Youth Empowerment Services). The workshop will help school administration and parents work together to encourage healthy, nutritional, and physically active lifestyles to promote healthy, productive children with positive self-esteem while eradicating negative mental behaviors.
YES empowers and educates families, communities, and children in identifying negative behaviors, mental, physical, and emotional, that are results of obesity. YES is focuses on health and wellness, and helps define obesity and its patterns in school age children and identifies health consequences, physical and mental.
This workshop is a step in the right direction for the community due to the rate of obesity among children consistently rising. said Jeff Black, YMCA trainer. Joe Smith, Director of the Rockbridge Area Community Services Board, stated The availability of this new information has worked in numerous other cities and look forward to implementing the program in this county.
The instruction in nutrition development alone is beneficial in addressing healthy caloric intake, balanced diet choices and how to make healthy food decisions. This establishes the foundation for physical activity, which leads to a positive body image and the reduction of negative mental behaviors.
The topics include defining obesity, its causes and the physical and mental effects on children and interventions. The health benefits of the Yes workshop are lifelong.
