Code Compliance Summary Report
During this monthly reporting period (through 6/18114), City Code Compliance staff
fielded a total of 31 code compliance requests. A total of 28 active cases were closed
over this same time period. For this calendar year, 204 code compliance requests have
been received, and 146 of these cases have been closed.
Of the requests logged this month, the majority of these (>80%) were followed-up on
with an initial investigation within 2 business days.
TRENDS:
The number of code compliance requests was 15% higher than the previous month. The
number of requests fluctuates substantially from month to month. The most common
types of requests continue to involve reports of excessively-bright lighting, unpermitted
signage, unpermitted construction or landscaping, and Right-of-Way encroachments.
Signage, including signs in residential areas like garage sales, yard sales, and the like,
continue to be a focus of recent code compliance efforts. The City has addressed a few
cases where artificial turf was installed prior to obtaining the requisite Planning permits.
NOTES:
The arrival of the full-time Building Official on June 9, 2014, has provided additional
staff resources to note and address various code compliance issues. Code Compliance
staff have also recently enlisted assistance from the Police Department to ensure that
compliance issues such as improper POD container placement and gas-powered leaf
blowers are noted as early as possible or as they occur, which has helped in addressing
and resolving violations promptly. Additional proactive compliance programs planned
for the next few months include: 1) working with real estate professionals on the City' s
signage requirement, and 2) communicating City-specific regulations to landscape
professionals regarding ROW improvements, and permit requirements for revisions to
landscaping as well as for new or revised walls and fences.
