PHYSICS 12 SUMMER 2014

HOMEWORK: You are not required to turn in any assigned homework
problems for credit. These problems are to help you check
your understanding and prepare yourself for any problems
that may appear on the hour exams. Solutions will be
regularly posted on Blackboard and we will review
problems in class.

There may be occasion for credit to be earned by
tackling a challenging optional homework problem.

You will be asked to read material in the text outside of
class in preparation for class time and the reading quizzes.

HOUR EXAMS: These exams will comprise the bulk of your grade in
this course. Exams will be completed during the first class
hour on TUESDAYS except for the last one, which will be
on THURSDAY, AUG 07, 2014.

Students will receive a practice exam on the Thursday
preceding the exam. We will review the practice exam on
Monday during class time. A formula sheet will be
provided for each exam when you take the exam

Students must contact the instructor 24hrs before the
exam if medical emergency prohibits taking the exam on
time. Medical confirmation will be required.

After the exams are initially graded, students will have
the opportunity to correct their exams and submit the old
exam along with their corrections for additional points on
the exam, not exceeding 50% of the total points originally
subtracted. For example, a student who submits complete
and accurate corrections to an exam originally receiving a
mark of 70% will earn a maximum final mark of 85%.

Exam solutions will be placed on Blackboard after
corrections have been collected.

*** For EXAM5, the practice exam will be available on
Tuesday 08.05.2014 and we will discuss the practice exam
in class on Wednesday 08.06.2014. You will not have the
opportunity to correct EXAM5 for additional credit.

PHYSICS 12 SUMMER 2014

READING QUIZZES: Except for exam days, each class will begin with a
short reading quiz on the assigned chapters from the text
book. You will not be expected to solve unfamiliar
problems on these quizzes, but you will be expected to
recall from your reading new terms, concepts and
definitions. After collecting the quizzes, we’ll review them
and the answers will be available on Blackboard. The
quizzes will be returned as soon as possible.

There are 18 planned reading quizzes and your reading
quiz grade will be based only on your 12 highest scores.
There are no make-ups for missed reading quizzes.

EXAM PRACTICE: You will receive a mock exam prior to each Hour Exam.
These will very closely resemble the actual exams and you
will see the type of problems you will be asked to solve.
The solutions will be posted on Blackboard after we review
the practice exam in class.
