HIV/AIDS stands for Human lmmune Deficiency virus/ Acquire lmmune Deficiency syndrome.
It is a disease of the human immune system caused by infection with human immune deficiencyvirus.
During the initial infection, a person may experience a brief period
of influenza- like illness.
According to researchers, two viruses cause Aids, namely HIV-2 is commonly found in West
Africa. Symptoms can include fever, swollen glands, sore throat, rashes, fatigue, muscles and

and pains,
headache.
Currently, there is no cure forAlDS, but medications are effective in fighting HIV and its
complications. The treatment helps to reduce HIV in your body, keep your immune system healthy and
decrease your complications. Some of the drugs approved by FDA for treating HIV and AIDS are;
l.Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI).
These drugs interrupt the duplication of the virus.
They include: Abacavir (ziagen,ABC).
