Position Brief
TOP 5 MUST-HAVES:
1. 10+ years of P&C personal lines insurance experience
2. Background working with a combination of brokerage, sales, marketing and underwriting
3. Working knowledge of underwriting concepts and policy
4. Experience leading/managing underwriting teams and processes
5. Proven background creating and/or placing new business
CLIENT:
Our client is a Property and Casualty managing general agency (MGA) based in the Southeast with a long
history in the specialty lines insurance business.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Vice President of Personal Lines will operate in a leadership role to drive underwriting policy and
performance. This includes the management of underwriting quality, appetite guidance, and overall
execution of Personal Lines underwriting programs. This position will also be responsible for focusing
the underwriting teams on delivering against revenue objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Operates as SME providing direction and thought leadership to Underwriting groups and leaders
 Ensures the performance of the book
 Implements underwriting strategies that support profitable growth
 Negotiates with program carriers and business units on individual accounts and programs
 Negotiates commission rates and policy fee structures with carriers
 Oversees underwriting quality that addresses both the technical and subjective aspects
 Responsible for leading an underwriting team through hiring, training and ongoing management
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Manages the integrity of the underwriting process
 Establishes and communicates underwriting guidance
 Leads the development of product enhancements based on industry trends and book performance
 Develops and manage a connection between underwriting and distribution
 Guides the development of personal lines underwriting new hire training and ongoing training
 Leads/manages Personal Lines staff
 Prepares for audits and responds to findings as required
