Montage
Description:
An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and
the use of typography.
Programs used:
Adobe Photoshop

Date: May 31, 2014
Course & Section: COMM 130-04
Instructor name: Cory Kerr
Objective:
• Learn to manage Photoshop Layers
• Learn to blend images together smoothly, suing mask.
• Use filters
• Apply appropriate typography
Process:
I colored the background black and placed a picture of Machu Pichu that I
found on the web. Then, I placed the image of the jaguar, and using a mask
and the brush tool, I erased the body and left just the head. Finally, I moved
the image to the upper right corner.
For the eyes, I placed an image of the Peruvian flag, I made it smaller and
with the Transformation Warp tool I gave it the shape of the eyes of the jag-
uar, then I added the Overlay effect.
With a mask and the brush, I erased the bottom right corner of the image to
add my text. I used the gradient effect for the text in white and the texture
effect for the text in red.
Logos
Description:
Three logo designs for the same company
Programs used:
Adobe Illustrator

Date: June 7, 2014
Course & Section: COMM 130-04
Instructor name: Cory Kerr
Objective:
• Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image
• Use the basic tools of Illustrator
Process:
For the first logo I wrote my name and created outlines to change the “i” and
add the accent. Then, I added the circle and the colors.
For the second logo I did two rounded rectangles, I grouped them, erased
the middle part, and colored the two sections with orange and light blue. I
put the text in the middle and used the same F for Sofia and Falconi, to do
this I erased the F from Falconi and made the F from Sofia bigger and bold.
For the third logo, I wrote Sofia, and then added the spiral behind, I changed
the size and colored it red. Also, I made the “i” larger and added the accent. I
modified the S by rotating it and making it bigger.

Course & Section: COMM 130-04
Instructor name: Cory Kerr
Objective:
• Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image
• Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead
• Use the basic tools of Illustrator and InDesign
Process:
I used Adobe Illustrator to create my logo, I did the dumbbell using the oval
tool and the rectangle tool, with the same tools I added the shadows to
make it look more real. When it was done I grouped my design and copy to
InDesign.
I wrote “Dumbbell” and “Fitness Center” next to the image I created. I draw
two blue rectangles and put one at the top and one at the bottom. Then I
added the gray diagonal lines at the top, and added the gray rectangle at the
bottom. For the water mask, I copied my logo, made it bigger, added 15%
of transparency, and put it on the lower right corner. Finally, I place my the
contact information next to the logo at the top right corner.

Black & White Flier about a Graduate Leadership Conference
Programs used:
Adobe InDesign
Date: May 10, 2014
Course & Section: COMM 130-04
Instructor name: Cory Kerr
Objective:
• Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography
• Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout
• Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep
links intact
Process:
For this project I used Adobe InDesign. I started with sketching and after
choosing my design, I knew I wanted two large rectangles overlapping at the
top left corner, the image at the middle, and the information bellow it.
The first thing I did was drawing the rectangles, I used the gradient tool for
the vertical rectangle, and colored the horizontal rectangle black. Regarding
typography, I used two different fonts in total, one for the title and the
subtitle bellow the black rectangle, and another font for the body. I like the
contrast between the fonts I used, the one for the title is old-style and the
one for the body is sans serif.
I aligned all my figures with something else, there is nothing floating or left,
even the logo at the lower right corner is aligned with the rectangles in the
other side.

A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fund-raiser using only Microsoft
Word and a Scanner
Programs used:
Microsoft Word
Epson Scanner
Date: May 13, 2014
Course & Section: COMM 130-04
Instructor name: Cory Kerr
Objective:
Find, scan and import a high-quality image
Create a full-bleed design
Use text boxes for layout in Word
Insert and edit images in Word
Process:
For this ad I used Microsoft Word.
I scanned a picture from a handcraft book, I cropped it and put a frame
on it. The frame I used is white with a slightly black shadow. To give more
emphasis to my image I rounded the upper left corner and the lower right
corner.
I used the Fill Effects tool to add texture to my design. I used the Rectangle
Shape tool to add the pink boxes where I put my text, then I used the opacity
tool to add transparency to my boxes so they will show the texture of my
page.
Web Page
Description:
A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo
Programs used:
TextWrangler
Adobe Photoshop
Date: June 28, 2014
Course & Section: COMM 130-04
Instructor name: Cory Kerr
Objective:
• Size and optimize and original logo as a .png for a web page
• Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it
appeals to a target audience
• Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content
• Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS
• Identify hex colors for web design
• Compress multiple files in a zipped folder
Process:
The first thing I did for this webpage was to download TextWrangler, with
this text editor and with a template provided by my teacher, I wrote my tags
and codes in HTML. Then I linked my HTML with another CSS template. I put
my logo, changed the fonts, and changed the colors.
I put all my files: HTML, CSS and my logo image, in the same folder. When I
finished writing my code, I used http://www.W3.org HTML validator to see if I
did a good job, and it helped me to fix a couple of mistakes.
I placed my logo in the top left corner and used the same colors, gray and
blue, for my webpage. In order to match the colors I used the eyedropper
tool on Photoshop to get the right color hex.
