Description: A two sided (duplex) folding
brochure for your employer.
Date: July 12, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Section 01/Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign,
Adobe Illustrato, shape tool, text tool, mask, paint brush, text
wrap palette and paragraph styles palette.
Objectives: Set up and align a duplex, folded brochure. Incorporate
quality images. Text wrap an image. Apply paragraph styles.
Process: I set up the gateway fold in Adobe InDesign. I used two pages
with three sections on each page. I used rules to keep them separated.
The bottom page would end up being the back and the front faps, while
the inside would be the content. I liked the idea of bright colors as I feel
like Pop-tarts are a bright product. The blue I actually just took right
from the logo and the color of the box of Pop-tarts.
I clipped all of the images in this brochure so that they would show up
and look better on the background. The hardest one was the toaster. I was
going to try and do a pop out image, but because of the way that it was
folded in didn’t work out very well. I decided to use Photoshop to add the
Pop-tart to the image of the toaster on the inside. I did this using a mask
and the paint brush. The Gate style toaster on the front had to line up just
perfectly. I cut it on Photoshop and lined it up right at the margins. I had
to place the right side of the toaster on the left half of my design and the
left half on the right so that it would come together when I folded it. The
text box I had to do the same thing with.
I created the logo in Illustrator using the shape tool and the shape builder
tool and then I placed it into InDesign on the back.
The last thing that I did was insert the text. I choose to do line space style
as well. The lists though I did not do as line space as they were lists, and
did not need to follow the style.

Description: A montage meant to inspire
people to do missionary work.
Date: May 31, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Section 01/Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, the layers,
masks, the paintbrush, the select tool, flter tool, lasso tool.
Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers, blend images
together smoothly, using masks and flters.
Process: I choose a light blue background on an 11×8.5 sheet.
Next I opened the image of the man thinking and moved him to the
background image. I placed a cloud texture over the entire background
and added a mask. I used the lasso tool to select the man and then used
the black paint brush on 100% to put the sky behind the man. Next I
added in the picture of the missionaries. With black paint and a 100%
opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard image edges, then
with a larger black brush at 25% opacity I blended the image into the
cloud background. I repeated the process with the social media icons, I
also rotated them around the missionary image.
To fnish, I added some ellipses to make it look like thought bubbles. I
added some type with two contrasting fonts and I changed the color to
a dark purple to contrast the light background to make the text more
legible, The other text I changed to gold to match my color scheme and
added a drop shadow to make it legible.

Process: First I created the crown logo. I took rectangle shapes and
manipulated the anchors until it looked like a crown. I added the
circles and the white line after by cutting out the white shapes with the
pathfnder tool and adding the black ones. I aligned everything with
rulers. The last thing that I did was use the shape builder tool to add the
shapes back together.
Next I created the second logo. I decided on a type font. I dragged the
bottoms of n’s down and adjusted the space between the bottom word
so that the n’s lined up. I then added a crown where the dot of the I was.
I made the crown with the shape tool.
The third one I created with two colored boxes. I took the K and used
the anchor tool to pull down one of the stems. Then I simply added the
consulting word. I then added the crown shape and using the shape
builder tool I cut out the half of the crown shape and changed the
color of the other half.

Camera,
Adobe Photoshop, brightness, contrast, hue, levels, saturation edits, eye
droppper tool, and the shape tool.
Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to
take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust
image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection
tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of
the image. Use a flter or colorize a portion of the image.
Process: I frst looked through color schemes from the Visual FOCUS
book. I then when outside and looked at some things that I liked I
found one that matched the split complimentary color scheme for
Brick with Blue and Green. I planned to use that for my layout. I took
the picture as well exposed as I could. I used my sister’s camera it was
a Lumix G DMC-GS3. I then used Photoshop and used the four basic
editing techniques: levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance.
After that I designed a landscape layout that including my photo, text,
and tried to use the rule of thirds and diagonal balance. I used diferent
colored rectangles to incorporate my color scheme. I used the eye
dropper tool to get close colors and then adjusted them to make them
correlate a little bit better.

Description: A web page designed to
showcase a personally created logo.
Date: June 28, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Section 01/Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: TextWrangler, Adobe Illustrator.
No actual tools where used in creating this, just the programs.
Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web
page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML
to display a logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML
and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple fles in a zipped folder to attach as one fle.
Process: I created this web page using TextWrangler. The Logo was
created in Illustrator, and the JPEG was created from a screenshot in
Photoshop. I looked up a lot of codes, and asked the lab assistants how
to do a few of the things. I used one website more than I did any others,
it was http://www.w3schools.com I also used both the HTML and
CSS validators. These helped me to make sure I was going in the right
direction.
With the code, I started with the image. I inserted the image from my
web saved Illustrator fle. I used a tag to link to the CSS document. In
the CSS I used an image code with margins in 0 auto to make it center.
I used <strong> to bold the list items. I chose colors that matched my
logo by fnding their color values with Photoshop, and inserting them
into the code. I also changed my fonts to with fonts I found on the
website above, so that I would have web safe fonts with backups.page.

Description: A Black & White fier to
promote a graduate leadership conference.
Date: May 10, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Section 01/Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesign, shape tool,
text tool,
Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate
typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic fier
layout. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document
to keep links intact.
Process: I started by creating several sketches of potential layouts. I
chose one that I liked and began to create the layout in Adobe InDesign. I
chose to use three repeating boxes to show repetition. I also chose to put
the title in white on black inside one of my black boxes to show contrast.
I tried to leave white space in the lower half but not in a symmetrical
pattern. I also tried to keep my body copy small. All of the content and
text for this I was given in the assignment on I-learn.

Description: Matching letterhead and
business card designed using a personally
created logo.
Date: June 14, 2014
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Section 01/Cory Kerr
Program(s)/Tools: Adobe InDesign, shape tool, shape builder tool,
pen tool, and refect tool.
Objectives: Create a new logo to ft a company or personal image.
Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use
the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Process: To make the logo, I used Adobe Illustrator and the pentagon
shape tool. I also used the anchor point tool to adjust the shape of it, and
then refected it to make it match on both sides. Then I used the shape
builder tool to combine these shapes. Once the logo was created, I had to
create the outline of the police ofcer. For this I found a silhouette of the
ofcer and used the pen tool on half the image, again refected it, and then
added them together
Next I placed my logo and the police ofcer fles into the InDesign
document for my business card. I created the shapes simply with the Shape
Tool and added the text in. I wanted it to look like a police identifcation
card so I found one online and mirrored the design.

I made two bars and kept the same color scheme from the business
card. I used a text box to make the header and the contact information.
Then I added the logo in on the header. I also chose to use the logo as
a watermark. I used the cropping feature to make the logo a bit more
interesting. I positioned the placed logo in the bottom right corner of my
letterhead and I set the opacity to 9%.
