Program Tools

Adobe Illustrator
Objectives
Create a new logo to represent a chosen company. Design a
matching business card and letterhead that appropriately fit the
company.
Process
I decided upon the company that I wanted to represent and then
I began sketching. When I came up with something that looked
sound, I took to Adobe Illustrator to draw it all out. After feed back
and critiques, I added as well as took away some elements here and
there. There were things that had to be adjusted severely to catch
the eye. Different things looked good to different people so I finally
just decided on what was best for my specific audience and this is
what it came down to. Everything was eventually saved to Adobe
Indesign. The cut our around the letters and the stitching beneath
are the main pieces of the business card. They are the strength of
the design.

Process
I decided upon the company that I wanted to represent and then I
began sketching. Once I decided on the layout of my letterhead, I
went to InDesign to create the logo that I wanted to use. I decided
on the colors I wanted to use to draw mothers towards the
company. The design I originally chose didn’t seem to catch the eye
of my audience and so I decided to change how I had layed out the
design. I took the logo from the side of the page (how I originally
had it) and then I created a needle using Illustrator and placed it in
that vacant area.

Objectives
To create an original design using tools that morph pictures
together.
Process
I started by choosing the photographs that I wanted to use. Then, I
sketched what kinds of design I wanted to incorporate. I knew from
the beginning that I wanted to have it more centered to allow for a
peaceful background to a very abrupt foreground of hands holding
the Earth. As I designed this in Adobe Photoshop, I realized that I
wanted to have more texture and design in this inspirational poster.

Objectives
Create an event flyer that uses the basic principles of design.
Process
I began by sketching the design, using all of the criterium that was
necessary. Once I had something that looked good, I began using
InDesign to create what my design. The design didn’t look as good
as I thought it would on the actual page and so I had to change up
the layout several times until I came to this design. I played with the
colors a bit to find what would work well with the picture.

Objectives
Create three original logos for a chosen company. Use
whatever tools necessary to design the logos.
Process
I first decided what the company was that I wanted to
represent. Then, I sketched out what I thought some of the
main elements are for this company. Once I decided the main
elements, I took to Adobe InDesign to put my thoughts to
work. After realizing that I had missed the mark on some of my
ideas, I went back to the drawing board and thought of how
to recreate these images. I finished by using Adobe InDesign
and utilizing some photos from the internet to use as a base
for drawing. Once I had everything sketched out, the pictures
were deleted and I made all the designs my own.

Objectives
Create a brochure with at least one fold, and a text-wrapped
image.
Process
I began by deciding what I wanted my company and logo to
be. I then had to figure out how I wanted my message
conveyed. I chose that my audience was middle-aged
women who liked things that flow and would pay attention to
light colors with a fluffy design. In the Adobe InDesign
program, I designed the layout of the brochure and where I
wanted most things to land. I then scoured the internet for
pictures. Adobe Photoshopis the program I used to cut out the
picture of the girl and I placed it onto my InDesign document. I
then placed, measured, and designed the rest of the brochure
to provide my audience with an eye-catching piece. I had to
print a couple of times to get the transparency right as well as
the placement of the fold and edge.

Microsoft Word
Objevtives
To create a flier using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.
Process
I began with scanning the picture and adding it to a microsoft
word page. I then proceeded to make quite a few sketches to
try to decide how I wanted the image and message to be dis-
played. Once decided, I simply manipulated the word
document using only the features in this program. There were
other tries that displayed different colors, different
backgrounds, and different amounts of busyness. After much
consideration of my audience, I decided that a simple,
straight-to-the-point ad would serve my purposes best.

Objectives
Take a picture using correct tactics and then edit that photograph
to match a specific color scheme with proper design principles.
Process
I began by deciding the type of color scheme I wanted to
incorporate. I then used a DSLR camera and took pictures that
matched. After this, I spent time drafting different designs based on
the different photographs I had taken. I chose my picture
because of the uniqe lighting that was hitting the building. Time was
then spent editing the image to make everything match my color
scheme and look normal. I then decided to add one piece that was
abnormal and I decided on the mirrored image.

Objectives
Use an original logo to create an original web page.
Process
I started by using a logo that I created earlier in the class. I then
took that logo and decided on a color scheme and design that I
wanted my audience to connect with. By using CSS and HTML, I
designed the background and the placement of the logo and words.
