Cantabile Performer Lite
Play VSTs, trigger media clips, instantly switch between songs, integrate with your existing
hardware, control it all via MIDI and simply perform better.
It has become our favorite small host if a bit more sophisticated features are needed. It's the
fastest starting up host we have seen so far and has incredible features. Can chain plugins in racks
to complex setups and even switch between them. Setups can be remote controlled by midi which is
designed for live performances. The host supports midi sync and there's a handy midi recorder.
Last but not least there are a lot of tools to control and organize presets, morph between them and
randomize patches.
For live work, jamming and using as a musical sketchpad, Cantabile 2.0 Performer is indeed in our
top ten.
Cantabile Solo and Cantabile Performer can be used for up to 30 days, completely free of charge.
After 30 days the software cannot be used without a valid license key. Cantabile Lite is completely
free and may be used indefinitely.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SaviHost VST host program free. (Screenshots will depend upon the VST you’ve loaded.)
SAVIHost is a little derivate of VSTHost that has been crafted for the sole purpose of automatically
loading exactly one VSTi.
A very simple but effective one that allows to turn a plugin dll into a standalone executable. Very easy to use and no installation
needed. Just put the savihost.exe in the same folder where the plugin dll is located and rename the savihost.exe to the name of the
dll (OP-X: svihost.exe -> OP-X.exe).

Here is a VST-compatible host that can load VST effects and VST instruments that can be used in a
Live setup. You will be able to edit the parameters and save .fxb and -fxp files. It’s compatible with
MME and ASIO soundcards. Full MIDI Input and output with a MIDI player.

If you are looking for a simple VST host, this might be the one you need.
The x64 version, however, is built with Visual Studio 2008 SP1, and thus requires msvcr90.dll and
mfc90.dll to run. I'm not sure whether the 64-bit versions of Vista/7 contain these from the start; if
not, please download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VSTHost: Here's a little
demonstrational Windows program I started in 2002 in order to understand the inner workings of VST
plugins - VSTHost.
It's a VST-compatible host that's capable of:

loading VST effects (aka "plugins")

parameterizing / editing them

sound output for VSTis

MIDI-input and -output

loading / saving .fxb / .fxp files

I/O through either Windows MME or ASIO drivers

Wave Player / Recorder

MIDI Player
While the program started mainly as an aid in understanding and debugging VST plugins, it has evolved
into a quite capable program by now which can be really helpful in a keyboard artist's Live setup.
Since questions do occur from time to time, I've created a discussion forum for them.
Music enthusiasts often stumble upon audio plugins and most of them would like to take them for a spin before
installing in their DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) of choice and editing their sounds. For this purpose, one
could rely on VST Host, a handy utility that runs VST plugins and enables users to experiment with their
functions.
Test various audio plugins easily
The main purpose of the application

is to send audio data signal to a chosen plugin in a specialized format, then

to add the output stream to its own audio processing.
The interface of the software solution might seem somewhat overwhelming at first, mostly to novices who are
not accustomed to VST (Virtual Studio Technology ) effects. However, the menus are intuitive and can guide users
toward successfully evaluating plugins.
Change settings to audio plugins
In addition to loading VST data, VST Host can also be used for adjusting their parameters and editing their
configuration, such as the process thread priority or the value of BPM (beats per minute). Users can save the
current effect settings to a separate file that can be loaded when they want to resume their work.
VST Host supports several types of source devices, including MIDI, Wave and Joystick, and the settings for each of
them can be modified until the loaded plugin performs at its best. The virtual keyboard can also help musicians
make the most of their tested plugins, especially it is correctly configured. On the other hand, one can also enjoy
the Wave playing and recording options of the application, along with the MIDI playback function.
Conclusion
All in all, VST Host is a feature-rich application that can be of great use to those who would like to test their plugins
before releasing them to the public, but also to casual users who want to play around with a VST effect before
integrating it within a production environment. - Written by Giorgiana Arghire

Chainer VST Host (by Xlutop)
Chainer is a multi-effect and multi-instrument rack for musicians and sound designers. It’s a VST host
that runs as a standalone application, VST effect and VST instrument.
Chainer allows you to stream the ASIO or VST input signal through up to 10 chains of VST effects so
you can use your PC as a realtime multi-effect processor.
In addition Chainer enables you to play several VST instruments at the same time. You can layer
several instruments to create complex sounds or you may play instruments on different MIDI channels:
Chainer turns your PC into a multi-timbral sound generator.

To achieve very low latencies, the standalone version supports ASIO 2.0 compatible soundcards. A fast
PC, a good ASIO driver and Chainer enable you to use your VST effects and instruments almost like real
hardware devices.
It is possible to load up to 100 VST plugins per instance of Chainer, but since you can load Chainer in
itself there is no actual limit.
The parameters of Chainer and also parameters of the loaded VST plugins can be controlled through
MIDI CC messages or VST automation.
A bonus feature of Chainer is the ability to create multi-samples from your VST instruments in WAV
and SF2 format for instant use in samplers.

Features

VST(i) and ASIO host.
Standalone application and VST(i) plugin.
Turns your PC into:
 Realtime multi-effect device.
 Multi-timbral sound generator.
Streams the ASIO/VST input signal through up to 10 chains of VST effects.
Several VST instruments playable simultaneously.
VST instruments playable on different MIDI channels.
100 slots for VST(i) plugins per instance of Chainer.
Chainer and VST plugin parameters controllable through MIDI CC messages and VST automation.
Creates 16/24/32bit multi-samples from your VST instruments (WAV, SF2).
Loads/saves Chainer preset files for fast access to your complex effect and instrument presets.
Wet, dry, panning and transpose parameters per slot.
Volume, panning, routing and MIDI channel parameters per channel.
No clicks during volume and panning changes (volume ramping).
FXP/FXB import/export with browse functionality:
 Loads preset files directly without closing the open dialog.
 Loads single presets from FXB files.
 Opens the VST plugin belonging to the preset file automatically.
Copy/paste for plugin presets.
Captures the sound output to a 16/24/32bit stereo WAV file.
PC keyboard usable as virtual midi keyboard.
Random function for VST plugin parameters.

Chainer is one of the best small VST hosts available.
A short quick start guide:
Install Chainer. It can be found then in Start->Chainer or directly on your desktop. Launch Chainer. A nag screen
indicates it’s just a demo version. When Chainer is launched then go to "System->Settings" and choose your
preferred audio and midi devices. For high performance/low latency you should use an ASIO soundcard (a good
cheap one: M-Audio delta 2496). So it's recommended to choose the ASIO driver of your soundcard, not the
windows ASIO drivers (not ASIO multimedia driver or ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver; in case of M-Audio: M-Audio
Delta ASIO). Check if in "Options->Plugin Directories" your VST plugins folder is chosen (including the SonicProjects
subfolder). Now click on the down arrow of the first slot on top left and choose "OP-X". You can access the GUI by
clicking on "Editor 1". Presets can be changed/chosen either with the up/down arrows on the right of Chainer's
GUI or with "Presets" on the top right of the plugin GUI (Editor 1) The additional banks can be loaded either

directly on the Chainer GUI by clicking on the down arrow and choose "load" - then browse for the banks and load
a one. Or you can load banks directly from the plugin GUI (click "Editor 1") by clicking on "Presets" on the top right
and then again "Load".

MIDI YOKE
MIDI Yoke is normally used to connect two applications together. The first application will open MIDI
Yoke 1 as an output port, and the 2nd application will open MIDI Yoke 1 as an input port. MIDI data will
travel from the 1st applications output to the 2nd's input.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Single Client to Multi-Client: You can use MIDI-OX in conjunction with MIDI Yoke to achieve a virtual
multi-client input. Launch an instance of MIDI-OX. In MIDI Devices... dialog, select the single client
hardware driver as input and select MIDI Yoke 1 as output.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LoopBe1 is an internal MIDI device for transferring MIDI
data between computer programs. Basically LoopBe1 is an "invisible cable" to connect a MIDI output
port of an application to any other application´s MIDI input port.
All MIDI data sent to the program´s output is channeled to the receiving applications in realtime.
You may connect up to 8 applications to LoopBe's inport and up to 8 applications to the outport, all
sending and receiving at the same time.
LoopBe1 is a native Windows™ 2k/XP/Vista/7 WDM kernel mode driver, so expect the lowest possible
latency. Due to its architecture, it doesn´t work on Windows 95/98/ME. We recommend Hubi's MIDI
LoopBack device for these OS. Programs do not need to link with special libraries, so LoopBe1 works
with every MIDI or DirectMusic™-capable application.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It allows you to open any midi file and watch its keyboard “play” the keys. You may assign any of the
midi channels to the left or right hand to view individual parts and mute unwanted tracks/channels
depending on your needs or focus with this visual, virtual keyboard. (see also, VanBasco Midi Player.)
Additionally, you may also record a MIDI file of what you play using the software and playback or save it.
This software will also allow you to plug any midi input device(s) into the software and have its output
sent to any installed midi devices in your computer. For instance, if you have a midi keyboard (USB, ekeys, etc.) that does not generate its own sounds, you can use this to play your PC’s internal soundcard
sounds using the midi keyboard as an input.

There are also a number of cool plug-ins that are included with the software such as a guitar tuner,
metronome and midi event monitor (a device to “see” the midi code list in realtime). This software is
fairly new and easy to use. I hope it continues to be supported as there is a real need for updated
freeware such as this.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This amazing softsynth has a multitude of Frequency Modulation options which enable it to create some
truly awesome sound effects. PWM, Sample & Hold, virtual Spring Reverb, Ring Modulation, and a
dedicated Noise Generator are all there! Also, there is Oscillator Sync and Filter Color (to adjust between
LowPass and HiPass filter types). Most important of all, beginning with version 2.0 the Arppe2600va is
now completely patchable via a cleverly designed Mod Matrix! You can have up to 12 patch routings
with a very user-friendly (and visible!) drop-down menu interface, instead of messy virtual patch cables
cluttering up the screen. All controls are mapped to MIDI CC#'s, and you can override the default
settings by using the MIDI Learn feature. Use as a simple stand-alone synth (.exe file included), or copy
the DLL into your favorite DAW or sequencer's plug-in folder. Download here.

DOWNLOAD AutOGun VST SYNTH
Autogun offers 4,294,967,296 (Four Billion Two Hundred Ninety Four Million Nine Hundred Sixty Seven
Thousand Two Hundred Ninety Six) presets, just waiting to be explored for their acoustic potential.
Autogun is based on the Ogun VSTi synthesizer that can produce rich metallic and shimmering timbres,
although it's not limited to these sounds as Autogun will demonstrate. Ogun's distinctive synthesis
engine can generate more than 32,000 harmonics, modulated by high-level 'harmonic mapping'
functions. These synthesis parameters have been put under the control of an artificial intelligence, patch
creation algorithm, the reason Autogun can deliver such a huge number of presets.
Every Autogun is set to start from a unique preset number, so that each Autogun user is assigned a
personal starting preset-address, ready to explore. However, users can at any time, jump to a new
location in the preset-space by simply entering a preset number.
With so many presets Autogun needs no programming, every sound is already somewhere 'out there'
and just needs to be found.

Notation Musician creates
nice and accurate sheet music from MIDI files that can be easily found on the Internet. The program is
capable of showing notes that it's playing, which is invaluable for learning music notation. It can split
piano tracks into staves for left and right hands. It is possible to adjust volume separately for every
instrument, so you can listen to the parts that are most interesting for you. Adjustable tempo makes it
easier to learn difficult parts. You can also transpose sheet music to match your instrument's key. Yet
another great function is ability to make a piano reduction of some complex piece with just a single
command.
Notation Musician allows you to add and edit lyrics to produce parts for singing. The program analyses
music and displays chord names, such as Am, F7 etc. It also gives you an opportunity to set practice
loops, or even to turn 'pages' automatically. It is patient and untiring accompanist that can spend hours
playing the same piece, while you polish up your skill.
This program can be a perfect teacher for everybody who plays some musical instrument and wants to
improve, or just a helper and producer of inexpensive sheet music for professional musicians.

Impro-Visor (short for “Improvisation Advisor”) is a music notation program designed to help jazz
musicians compose and hear solos similar to ones that might be improvised.
Solos and heads may be exported as MusicXML, for import to other popular music notation software.
Any number of leadsheet windows can be open simultaneously. The user can cut and paste melody and
chords from one window to another.
Impro-Visor is free and runs on any platform that supports Java 1.6 or later, including:
Windows (7, Vista, XP, 2000, maybe others)
MacOSX (with Java 1.6 installed)
Linux

Finale NotePad
Create orchestrations of up to 8 staves, and enter notes by clicking them into the staff or importing MIDI
or MusicXML files. Once your music is in NotePad, you can hear it play back, see it on the printed page,
and share it with other NotePad and users of other Finale family music notation software.

LilyPond Note: LilyPond is a text-based music engraver; it is more similar to a programming language
than a graphical score editing program. Before downloading LilyPond, please read about our Text input.

Denemo is a music notation program for GNU/Linux and Windows that lets you rapidly enter notation
which it typesets using the LilyPondmusic engraver. Music can be typed in at the PC-Keyboard (watch
demo), or played in via MIDI controller (watch demo), or input acoustically into a microphone plugged
into your computer’s soundcard.
Denemo uses LilyPond which generates beautiful sheet music to the highest publishing standards.
During input Denemo displays the staffs in a simple fashion, so you can enter and edit the music
efficiently. The typesetting is done in the background while you work, and is generally flawless
publication quality. Any final tweaks to can be done on the final typeset score with the mouse if
needed (watch demo). This represents an enormous practical improvement over the most programs
which require you to re-position colliding notation constantly as you enter the music. See comparison
with Musescore, Finale or Sibelius.

MC Musiceditor is free/open source (GPLv2 or above) music notation software (Windows/Linux under
Wine). It is developed by Reinier Maliepaard, psychologist, software engineer, musician and teacher at
the ArtEZ Conservatorium Netherlands, music theory and music history. Why? To make life of musicians
easier when making scores. This resulted in a userfriendly editor which makes professional scores
without requiring specific knowledge (other than musical basics)! In short: MC Musiceditor is the easiest
way to write, refine, hear and print professional scores.
MC Musiceditor uses a modification of the ABC-language which was invented by Chris Walshaw. The
ABC language is simple to use and can create music scores from basic melodies to a complex symphony
score. Our modification of the ABC-language makes it, in our opinion, all easier (why? Part 1 - Part

2 - Part 3). For the convenience of ABC-users, MC Musiceditor 6.0.9 and later is a hybrid version: you can
use the MC Musiceditor for MCM-code (default) and ABC-code! The trigger is L:mcm_default. If found,
the code will be interpreted as MCM. If L: value doesn't equal to 'mcm_default', the code will be
interpreted as ABC.
Basic features
• Note entry by mouse clicks, keyboard short cuts or just typing
• Chord entry by mouse clicks
• Export to PDF
• Export to Midi
• Previewer
• Pitch manipulations (transpose, pitch converter)
• Format functions (score, midi)
• File functions (rename, merge)
Why should you use MC Musiceditor?
• It is very easy to use
• It has a very fast note-entry: you can make a score very quick (well, at least as fast as typing a
text in your texteditor)
• The script based editor enables you to manipulate data with a great ease
• It has an external previewer that refreshes itself constantly; so you see what you have
composed!
• The sheet music (PDF) is of a high quality (Example: Magnificat (2004) of Reinier Maliepaard)
• The software is donateware, so free to use and free of charge. But users are encouraged to
make a small monetary donation (about 1,50 euro): see the donate buttons left.
In addition: making webapplications!
With MC Musiceditor 6.1.0 and later you can convert MCM and ABC code to a Javascript webstring
which can be parsed by Abcjs. Abcjs is an open source parsing and rendering tool for ABC written
entirely in Javascript, so it allows sheet music to be rendered with the browser. It was developed by
Gregory Dyke and Paul Rosen. We made an example html page: click here. You can also download a zip
file: unpack and run the index.html offline in your browser: click here

Free SoundFont Editor for Linux & Windows

Polyphone is free software for editing SoundFonts in format sf2. These files contain a multitude of
audio samples put together and configured so as to form musical instruments that can be used by
synthesizers such as FluidSynth and played using a MIDI keyboard.
The goal of Polyphone is to provide: a simple and efficient interface for creating and editing .sf2
files, available on both Linux and Windows; and tools to facilitate and automate the edition of
different parameters, making it possible to handle a large amount of data.

Polyphone is licensed under GNU General Public License. Anyone may thus access the source code,
and is welcome to help in the development of the program.
Soundfont Librarian: This librarian is a tool to manage, edit, and customize SoundFont banks. You
can load several banks each in their own Windows, then simply drag-and-drop presets from one
bank into another, to custom create banks containing just the presets you want in an all new bank.
Save your creation back to disk when finished.
SF2 Splitter: Simple tool that extracts instruments from SoundFont files.
Hi all,
I just released another version of Polyphone. Here are the changes:
- bugs linked to file importation are fixed,
- addition of a virtual keyboard,
- support for midi signal reception,
- a synth (not fully implemented yet, taking 60% of the parameters into account),
- support for ASIO and Jack audio server,
- overlay in the graph, making it easier to loop samples,
- clipping done if necessary when equalizing samples,
- time cursor less CPU consuming when playing samples.
Dries wrote
I did some changes in a SF with Polyphone. When I opened the same SF again in Viena I got the
message "No sm24 sub chunk!!!" Also when trying to save in Viena this message comes up and as
far as I can see the changes in the SF are not saved.
Don't be afraid by this message. Polyphone just saves .sf2 file as 2.04 sf2 format. This change allows
samples to have a 24 bits extension, said extension being not mandatory contrary to what Viena
seems to warn. You can check with Swami: everything is ok (in no case data will be lost).
For the next release I will try to finish the synth. More particularly:
- scale tuning,
- real time low pass filter,
- low frequency oscillators (LFOs),
- exclusive class,
- chorus and reverb,
- offsets,
- modulators.

However the priority will be on stability. If someone finds a bug please keep me informed.

Thanks to this software now I can play my violin with much more comfort! We musicians are always
reading scores and before this invention many of them were necessary to be printed. It's no more
necessary to print the many sheets of paper. This thing is not only environmentally correct but also a
genial idea. You can also write in the digital score and visualize the corrections you have just made to it.
This software is the contribution of one high skilled person to the music world. Daniel de Barros VeigaViolinist (Ribeirão Preto-SP-Brazil)
Well thought out and nicely executed. I've added a foot pedal and touch screen monitor to my Linux
system to enhance the experience, and have been pulling in my scanned sheet music and (alas,
relatively few!) PDF files. Works well. Highly recommended!

I found major problems with my RealTek Audio device... Upgrades in drivers sent my MB soundcard into
