1.INTRODUCTION

Burstlining method is the process of the rehabilitation of the existing
pipeline without trench digging. Burstlilning machine is installed very fast and
machine handling is very simple. Its short and narrow chassis requires small
dimensions of the accesing shafts. This reduces expences of the digging and
time needed for construction works. The cleaning of the pipeline is not
necessary

- Rehabilitation of the existing pipeline with pipes of the same or larger
diameter
- Working possibility under the different pressures
- For one day the pipe of length 150m is reconstructed
- High ecenomy degreee due to the reduced volume of trench digging,
shorter period of construction works and without significant traffic
disturbing


2. PREPARATORY WORKS

2.1. Data collecting and positioning of the starting and ending
shafts

All data on the material and type of the pipeline, details of the valves,
knees, pipes, caps ties, etc. are previosly collected and analyzed.

Inspection of the pipeline route is carried along with the marking of all
pipe bends and branches. Data is recorded, after which is determined the
number and length of the sections necessary for the rehabilitation of the
existing pipelines.





2.2. Digging of the starting shafts
Length of the shafts depends on the depth of the existing pipeline while
the depth of the shaft must be at level 20 cm lower than level of the existing
pipeline. The following table given are approximate dimensions and types of
structures in the situation that the existing pipeline at a depth of 1.5 m :

2.3. Butt welding
Before inlining process, sections of the new PE pipe are connected
with butt welding and thus form a continuous length of pipe needed.

3.INLINING OF THE NEW PE-PIPE WITH BURSTLNING


3.1. Installing of the GRUNDOBURST equipment


Before using GRUNDOBURST its necessary to prepare starting
and ending pits. Both pits are prepared in the way that existing pipeline
is between them. GRUNDOBURST is installing in te ending pit.
GRUNDOBURST is equiped with hydraulic force using external unit.
Using that force GRUNDOBURST is pushing push/pull chains which are
guided by the lead bar, from ending to starting pit through existing
pipeline.

After inlining push/pull chains in the existing pipeline, cutting head is installed
on the start of the new pipe.

3.2. Inlining process

After pulling through of the push/pull chains and installing of the cutting
head, the inlining of the pipe is starting. With hydraulic pulling force knife is
cutting the old pipe, and its extension with static inlining provides appropriate
hole diameter. Increase of the diameter is very easy.












With this procedure almost all types of existing pipelines can be rehabilitated.
For one day, rehabilitation of 150 m of existing pipeline can be done.
Application area is associated with a maximum tractive force, depending of
the type of Grundoburst equipment. The following table presents the
minimum and maximum diameters of the old pipeline, depending on the type
of GRUNDOBUST equipment

4. Connection Methods


This kind of pipes are used in water and gas pipeline which operate
under relatively small pressures. Ending connections are made with
electrofusion joints.

5. Quality Control
Before inserting PE pipe, the pressure needs to be tested and
check if the results are the same as manufacturers
specifications.
Visual checking of the PE pipes is also needed. In the case that
pipe has external damages larger than 10 % of the thickness of
the pipes, that pipe should be removed.
Rollers are used when the pipes are moved, because, when the
pipes are moved, the damage of the pipe wal can occure.
In case, when the welded pipes spent some time on the open,
before inserting in the existing pipeline, checking is needed for
the dust, rocks or any other material, for additional removal of
that material.
After BURSTLINING method, the pressure test is needed in accordance with
the requirements of the client.
