Word on the street is that Rauh-Welt Begriff
(RWB) is coming to Malaysia, and Nakai-san
himself is coming down to take charge of
building two RWB Malaysia cars. Weve been
fortunate to be given access to witness the
build as it happens and will be sending one of
our writers down to Johor to cover this his-
toric event. So look forward to the report of
RWB Malaysia in the next issue.
Art Of Speed Asia 2014 is back and once again
it will be held at Citta Mall. Last years event
was an amazing experience and this years
event looks to be even bigger and better. The
international guests for Art Of Speed includes
MOONEYES, FLAT4 Tokyo, Rocky Auto Japan,
Burnout Magazine Japan, Rough Crafts from
Taiwan, and Dino from Speedhunters. Speak-
ing of which, the RWB Porsche will also be
making an appearance at the event as well
as the best of the local Kustom Kulture scene.
So you can count of us to be there and bring
you coverage.
As usual we have an awesome selection of
features lined up in the following pages, with
the M7 Japan NSX, turbocharged Torco CR-Z,
and a special BeeR 180SX to name a few. Not
to mention coverage of the Malaysian Super
Series Round 2 and #The Takeover. Boeyn
Kuan is this months featured Hyperbabe for

Its easy to fall in love with a sports car or a
supercar, but a truck can just be as attractive.
For drivers in the Europe and the United
States, they spend a lot of time in their
trucks, making long journeys across states. Its
practically a home on the move for them, thus
manufacturers like Volvo Trucks focus so much
of their research and development on making
the driver a priority.
I was on a recent trip with Volvo Trucks to
Seoul, where I had the chance to drive their
new FH and FM trucks. It was only within an
enclosed area marked out with cones, but this
is probably an experience I might never get
again unless I take another license. Modern
trucks have become so developed the ones
we saw at this event had a comfortable
bed, microwave oven, fridge, in-vehicle
entertainment system and more. There are a
lot of features that enhance fuel efciency,
safety, productivity and maximisation of uptime
as well.
Driving the truck was not difcult, especially
with the Volvo Dynamic Steering system which
makes it a lot easier to control such a heavy
duty vehicle. The makeshift circuit had speed
limitations to it, so I could not explore too
much of its performance. One day, I hope I
will get the chance to test drive a truck across
borders or something, like going on a road trip
but with a truck. Or it could be a shadowing of
a truck driver, like a day in his life, to see how
these massive vehicles t into a lifestyle.
Racing trucks is a huge thing too did you
know there is an FIA European Truck Racing
Championship? These are for race trucks, series
production two-axle road tractor units, and
they have the usual practice, qualifying and
race over a weekend. In the 11

China Super Truck Race Championship last year,
there was one female racer Zhang Lanxiang
and the male competitors laughed at her,
saying that she would not be able to handle
the 9.9-tonne truck. She was an amateur car
racer and she fell in love with truck racing
immediately.
Not everyone will know how to appreciate
trucks it is a lot easier to evoke emotions with
a two-door low-slung coupe from a prestigious
brand, but there is a lot beneath that huge
shell. If you ever get the chance, do try driving
a truck; although I dont know how if you dont
have the required license. Well, Im sure there

Time gives us something that is inevitable. Growing
up or going old, it all depends on how you look at
things. As people, growing up may not be that positive
as well. Growing up could mean that you have to get
a job, pay the bills, bring up children and the worst
thing is, the list does not stop there. But let us be the
people who see the glass half full instead, as growing
up could mean that we could earn enough to have that
speed machine we had lusted for when we were kids.
I did not have a particular car that I dreamt of when
I was much younger; it was more like a couple of cars
instead. A RUF 911 CTR Yellowbird, a Lamborghini Miu-
ra and a Ferrari F40 made up my top three. Never had
I thought of a R32 GT-R or any Japanese make for that
matter. It wasnt stereotyping nor it was the bias to-
wards continental supercars, it was just that I wasnt
exposed to those from the land of the rising sun.
As I grew up I had the chance to cross paths with a
couple of Japanese cult cars, the rst was the Honda
Integra DC2. I liked the look and shape of the car, even
more so the current model, the DC5. But as I was just
getting into the world of cars, drifting took hold of the
local Malaysian car scene and I soon had forgotten the
Integra. Fast forward, enter the R32 GT-R.
Now, I wont bore you with tales of the recently sold
car. What I would like to tell you is, how much the
GT-R has grown from the humble looking but all-con-
quering R32 GT-R to the more than slightly obese R35
GT-R you see often in the roads of your neighbour-
hood. The car has grown in breadth and width, leaving
its predecessors looking like mere paperweight. Of
course, with all the added meat, you would get a lot

more technology and ultimately more power at the tip
of your right foot.
Dual-clutch with paddle-shift, an engine much bigger
than the venerable RB26 helped by a pair of turbos
and more than a couple of computers to help even idi-
ots drive the beast and feel like an accomplished pilot.
Compare that to the bare bones and a way much more
mechanical R32; you need to work your left foot and
hand in sync while having the the sweaty right hand
rmly on the steering wheel to keep the rear tyres in
line when you reach full boost at wide open throttle.
There are people calling themselves purists who
immediately shun the word paddle-shift but more
often than not, only one tenth of these people really
do know how to drive stick fast. I for one, love the
concept and the implementation of the dual-clutch in
such a car like the GT-R although perhaps it is just be-
cause Im getting older and lazier and would prefer a
car that could do everything from a short drive to the
grocery store to being stuck in the morning rush hour
trafc to the weekend drives with the boys.
The GT-R has grown up quite well I would say. It could
be a daily driver, more so like the Porsche 911s. Four-
seats, dual-clutch transmission that could be left in
lazy mode and creature comforts make this a fairly
good daily driver. Growing up for the GT-R is looking
quite rosy thus far.
The GT-R has tumbled in prices since the cars launch
in 2007. You can get the early models locally in and
around RM280,000, which is still a lot but it is still
much cheaper considering that there were those who
paid in excess of RM700,000 to get the bragging rights
of being the rst owners of the GT-R here.
But super car performance requires super car mainte-
nance. Ive heard stories of the expensive mainte-
nance that these beasts require. I guess one wouldnt
mind the hefty bills that come with the car when one
could afford it obviously. So Id let this one go; those
who crave for power must be ready to shoulder the
responsibility of wielding such power.
There are two main gripes that I have with the grown
up GT-R. One, there are a lot of them running about in
my local neighbourhood. I mean A LOT. You have these
young hipsters driving around with their modded gazil-
lion horse powered GT-Rs (paid by their parents none-
theless) with their skinny girlfriends in tight miniskirts
thinking theyre the king of the road. Of course, it
would not be wise of me to generalise the whole GT-R
population this way as I do know many owners who are
responsible and actually fast (but safe) drivers too. It
is just that if I were to have a GT-R, I would have this
uneasy feeling that people might just think Im one of
the young wannabe racing drivers even though Im not
that young and balding to boot (although some might
suggest to just f*** this shit and enjoy the car).
The other gripe that I have is that the car begs to be
modded. I mean, with all the other owners maxing
their cars to at least 800 horses, would you be the
bloke who would drive a stock GT-R? Ive heard many
saying they would just keep their cars stock only to
fall at on their wallets and surrender their credit
cards for an AMS Alpha upgrade.
So growing up could turn up to be a blessing or a
curse. Putting aside whatever the GT-R may be right
now, I still believe the R35 is an awesome piece of
machinery. Perhaps in the near future you could have
one sitting on the porch with that grin on your face
like I had with my R32.
That is of course, until you yourself grow up and
looking for more.

Two lucky winners rode home a brand new Kawasaki KSR each in
X-1Rs Win Yourself A Bike contest. The promo from February
to April 2014, much like X-1R products, received overwhelming
response from fans. The public was asked to answer a few simple
questions and submit their entries online to stand a chance to win

Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia team FXPrimus Aylezo has agreed to
partner Malaysian channel CapitalTV, to produce motorsport related content for
HyppTV viewers. The signing ceremony was ofciated by Y.Bhg Dato Captain
Ahmad Sufan, Chaiman of Online Dynamics Sdn Bhd and was witnessed by the
Minister of Finance, Y.B. Dato Seri Ahmad Husni Muhamad Hanadzlah.
Under the agreement, CapitalTV will record and produce a programme based on
Team FXPrimus Aylezos participation in the 2014 Lamborghini Blancpain Super
Trofeo Asia Season. Team FXPrimus Aylezo also took the opportunity to introduce
its driver lineup for the 2014 season during the event. This years bid at the
championship falls on team owner and experienced GT driver, Zen Low; young up
and coming GT driver Dominic Ang; and a well-known local GT driver, Marcus Chye;
who will be sharing driving duties in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo.
FXPrimus Aylezo will be followed throughout the year by the crew from Splices TV,

HWL Shock Absorber System

The 90s were a glorious era for Japanese
performance cars, and to some it was the
pinnacle. Nissan had its fearsome Skyline GT-R,
Toyota had its bulletproof Supra, and Honda
conceived the NSX. These cars shocked the
automotive world when they were released and
other car manufacturers began to worry. The
Japanese were producing performance cars
of extremely high quality, sold for a fraction
of the price AND were defeating all of their
competitors! It was a real slap to the face and a
wake up call for many.
The idea for mid-engine, rear-wheel
drive supercar began in 1984 when Honda
commissioned Italian car designer Pininfarina
to design the HP-X (Honda Pininfarina
Xperimental). After getting the green light to
proceed, the project shifted into the NS-X (New
Sportscar eXperimental) prototype. From the
get-go Honda had high aspirations for the NS-X
and it had to be as fast as the supercars coming
from Italy and Germany. In particular, it was the
Ferrari 328 which set the performance target
for the NS-X, but was revised to the 348 as the
design neared completion.

Honda was determined to beat its competitors
and spared no expense. The NS-X was the rst
production car to feature an all-aluminium
monocoque body, independent 4-channel anti-
lock brake system, titanium connecting rods
in the engine for reliable high-rpm operations,
an electric power steering system, Hondas
VTEC variable valve timing system, and the rst
electronic throttle control tted to a Honda.
They also took advantage of their motorsport
division and employed the assistance of their
race drivers to aid the development of the
NS-X. Notable gures who were fundamental
in the on track testing, feedback and chassis
tuning include Japanese Formula One driver
Satoru Nakajima, Brazilian Formula One
World Champion Ayrton Senna, and CART and
Indianapolis 500 Champion Bobby Rahal. The
suspension development program was extensive
and took place at the Tochigi Proving Grounds,
the Suzuka circuit, the 179-turn Nrburgring
circuit in Germany, HPCC, and Hondas test
track in Takasu, Hokkaido.
When released the comparison between the
NSX and Ferrari 348 were staggering. Ferraris
3.4-liter DOHC V8 produced 300bhp and 324Nm
of torque while Hondas 3.0-liter DOHC V6
produced 270bhp and 285Nm of torque. The
NSX had a better 0100 km/h time of 5.2
seconds compared to the 348s time of 5.6
seconds. Japanese driver Motoharu Kurosawa
piloted the Honda NSX at the Nrburgring and
managed to set a time of 8:16.15, which was an
amazing feat back in 1990.

To this day the NSX is highly regarded as one of the best
supercars ever produced. Already cemented as a legendary icon
and closely approaching to a modern classic status, its value
holds strong and continues to grow amongst collectors. It is
with such appreciation that we feature this ne example of a
lightly tuned NSX by M7 Japan.
The M7 Japan NSX is mostly stock standard, and that can be a
good thing too. After all, why mess with perfection? It retains
the C30A 3.0-liter DOHC VTEC V6 and 4-speed automatic with
some aftermarket parts by M7 Japan: a Super Cooling Radiator
Cap (GT-3 SRC-3), a Super Cooling Oil Catch Tank (SOCT-14), a
Super Street GT Mufer Titanium Tip Prototype, and a Super
High Performance Damper Prototype. The NSX has been given
a complete makeover in the form a NSX-R GT bodykit (with a
distinguishable snorkel attached to the roof of the car) and a
2nd-Gen xed headlamp conversion. It rolls on 18-inch Volk
Racing TE37 wheels and Toyo Proxes T1R tyres.
The next generation NSX is planned for release in 2015 by
Hondas Acura luxury division and will be a mid-engine all-
wheel drive hybrid-electric supercar. Will it be a worthy
successor to the original NSX? Only time will tell.

Model Review
Putting together a product for a popular segment is like playing a
game of hit and miss. There are just so many types of drivers to
satisfy, and last I checked, manufacturers dont actually rely on a
magic 8-ball that tells them what to build. But leave it to good old
research and the sound understanding of current market trends,
then what you have is a car that has been put together to deliver
what you really need and not so much what you wish to have. The
all new Honda City may not have come with paddle shifters, but six
airbags, stability control and a whole lot of cabin space is a great
trade off.
The Honda City is easily the top selling car in its class with some
eleven thousand bookings in its rst month alone, needless to
say that there is much love for the 4th generation people mover.
Built on Hondas H-Design concept, which focuses on driver and
passengers, the new car takes the competitive B-segment in a
stranglehold and leaves many of its competitors rethinking their
product.
On the outside, contemporary styling gives the City an aerodynamic
appeal that ticks all the right boxes. While not much has changed
in the overall shape of the car, the added curves and sleek lines
accentuates the exterior to set it apart from its predecessor.
Then of course there is the newly designed front and rear which
presents the City with a very bold statement. The rear end speaks
sophistication but it is the sporty new front grille and bumper with
large intakes that captivates ones interest.

The real magic though, happens on the inside.
Despite the exterior leading you to believe that
cabin space hasnt improved much over the
previous model, the interior of the new car is a
stunningly spacious. To give you an idea of just
how much legroom there is, you can slide the
drivers seat as far back as it would go and yet
you could sit lazily with your legs crossed at the
rear. The cabin is even larger than big brother
Civic and even rivals the D-segment Camry. The
successor to the 3rd generation City may only
be 25mm longer in wheelbase, but thinner seats
and careful planning of the interior has enabled
Honda to free up more room for passenger
comfort. Boot space is also the largest in its class
at 536 liters.
On the topic of comfort, you can always count
on Honda to deliver. However buyers may have
mixed feelings about this as the level of comfort
depends on how much youre willing to fork out.
The new City is divided into four variant; the
very affordable S, followed by mid-range S+ and
E, and the top of the range V.
S and S+ variants lack the fun stuff such as smart
entry, a push start button and even steering wheel
audio controls. The biggest gripe for Malaysians
here would be the subtraction of the rear air-
cond vents, which are only available on the
higher grades. Meanwhile model E and V share
similar specs with the exception of a leather
trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, steering
wheel cruise control, a touch panel air-cond
control and 8-speakers - which are all reserved
for the top of the range variant. Spec V is also the
only one to get a 7 touch panel audio receiver
that mirrors your smartphone so you can answer
calls and run your favourite GPS navigation apps.
This feature however, is currently only available
for iPhone users, but Android users can expect
an update later this year.
If you expect heart-racing performance then
youre looking in the wrong place. The City is
powered by the same 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine as
before but its performance has been renewed.
On top of being extremely economical, the
118 horsepower engine makes overtaking and
highway driving effortless. Combine that with
145Nm of torque with a free revving spirit, and
what you have is a car that isnt insanely fast
but fast enough to provide lots of fun on twisty
B-roads. The engine note creeps into the cabin
at higher revs, but this noise intrusion is more to
sporty than it is intolerable, although the drone
from seamless gear changes can sometimes be
monotonous.
The City sees the return of the CVT transmission.
Developed under Hondas Earth Dreams
Technology programme, the transmission is
now equipped with a torque converter. The
merits of using this system is improved response
and power for a more comfortable and sporty
driving character. By increasing engine torque
the transmission delivers smooth and powerful
acceleration for a more enjoyable drive. The
CVT box has been designed to detect strong
centrifugal forces and will maintain higher engine
revs even when the driver eases off the throttle
on winding roads. By amplifying torque there is
less load on the engine and this translates into
better fuel economy, especially for start and
stop city driving.
For the driver all these fancy numbers and
technical jargon translates into an enjoyable
drive that is both smooth and comfortable.
Driver controls are very well laid out and gives
you a sense of condence over the car. Steering
is quick and precise, and requires very little
effort to get the car going in the right direction.
This is attributed to a very balanced chassis and
suspension setup. The City is stable at highway
speeds and attacks bends with little body roll
and twitching caused by weight transfer. On the
new car, the rears no longer employ solid discs
and have gone back to the conventional drum
brake system. But even so, there is no drama
here.
Occupant safety is paramount in all Honda cars
and where safety is concerned, the City has
achieved a 5-star NCAP rating. The B-segment
sedan was also developed based on Hondas
G-CON body technology which focuses more to
real-world safety conditions. All variants get
ABS, EDB, brake assists, reverse sensors, rear ISO
x, pretension seatbelts and dual front airbags.
Only the V variant gets the side curtain airbags
for a full count of six airbags. Likewise, Vehicle
Stability Assist, Hill Start and Emergency Stop
Signal are only available on the higher E and V
models.
If youre in the market for a B-segment car, your
need not wonder if you should buy the Honda
City but instead the question is which variant
should you settle with. If the bare minimum
doesnt bother you then you can get the City 1.5
S for RM73,626 or the City 1.5 S+ for RM76,548.
However if you are the type of person that
prefers a fully loaded car and wouldnt mind the
bigger price tag, then the City 1.5 V will set you
back RM88,236. Should you nd yourself stuck
in between at this point, then your best option
would be the City 1.5 E at RM81,418 which is a
fair compromise on features at a smaller price.
Nevertheless, it doesnt matter which model
you decide on because Hondas 5 year unlimited
mileage warranty applies to all. And you still get
your 8 cup holders!

A force to be reckoned with in the motorsports arena,

Ken Gushi as its new ambassador for 2014. Kens

It has been a challenging season for DRIVE M7
Aspar, but theyre not about to back down in their
debut as a new team. With the championship
beginning to stabilise slightly and both riders
nding their way with the new RCV1000R
machines, more can be expected from them.
However, it was mixed feelings for the team at
the French Gran Prix when an unfortunate crash
forced Nicky Hayden into early retirement,
while Hiroshi Aoyama managed to clinch 14th
position.
Starting the race from the 17th spot on the grid,
Hiroshi Aoyama scored two positions on the
rst lap, then another in the second lap before
completing a lonely race to 14th place, earning
his 2 points.
Today was a tough race but luckily after starting
from seventeenth on the grid we have come
through to take a couple of points in fourteenth.
The plan for the race was to put together a fast
and consistent pace, especially on the rst laps,
and we have improved in comparison to recent
races so I am happy about that. Unfortunately
the higher temperatures today compared to
yesterday worked against us and with the soft
tyre the feeling wasnt the same as the rest of
the weekend. My pace wasnt as fast as I wanted
at the end of the race but we will try to improve
again at Mugello in two weeks.
Meanwhile his teammate Nicky Hayden was
forced out of the points for the rst time this
season after he was hit by another rider at turn
two. Fortunately Nicky was not hurt during the
crash and he is raring to go at it again in Mugello,
one of his favourite circuits.
The team has worked really hard all weekend
and we have made some progress as a result,
even in the warm-up this morning. So it is a
shame that the weekend ended like this, with a
crash that wasnt my fault. Look at the data it
was probably my best start of the season so far
but as we went through the chicane I could feel
another rider touch my handlebar and I couldnt
do anything to avoid the crash. It is a shame for
the team and for me but sometimes these things
happen in racing. Luckily I am okay and we just
have to look ahead to the next round.

Float some talk about sliding a car sideways and more often
than not the conversation would lead to how Keiichi Tsuchiya
came about his reign as Drift King. A professional race driver
in one of the most competitive series at the time, Tsuchiya-san
became famous for how he would enter a turn at high speeds
to kick out the tail of the car and control the slide all through
the exit.
When he left racing, he teamed up with Daijiro Inada and
founded D1GP, the rst ever professional drift series. Then in
2011, both Keiichi and Daijiro parted ways with D1 to start
Drift Muscle. Unlike other drift series, Drift Muscle put empha-
sis on the drivers ability and not so much on horsepower or
who has the bigger sponsor. The series gained a lot of traction
among motorsports professionals and enthusiasts, and the rest
is history.
This year, Drift Muscle enters its fourth year of competition
with a total of 8 rounds that are spread out from March to
November 2014. The series will visit famous Japanese circuits
including Nikko Circuit, Circuits Mase Sea of Japan, SUGO
Sports Land, Honjo Circuit, Tsukuba Circuit and Fuji Speedway.

IN JAPANESE DRIFT SERIES
ROWE MINERALLWERK GMBH was established
in February 1995 in Flrsheim-Dalsheim,
Rheinhessen, Germany. Thanks to its success
and continuous growth ROWE moved its
operations to the location of Bubenheim in the
Spring of 2000 where it has been in operation.
Over 140 qualied employees help to ensure the

location on the B9 will be used sensibly. New,
sustainable jobs will also be created. ROWEs
new building is an important signal and will
contribute to consolidating Worms status as a
modern industrial location.
Despite the relocation of the headquarters,
ROWE intends to retain all its production
facilities in Bubenheim. Radiator and windshield
washer antifreeze uids, brake uids and
industrial lubricants will still be produced
there.

aimed at efciency, the new tyre also delivers

Weve all heard the saying everything that
goes up must come down. Were not sure who
coined it but surely the person who did wasnt
referring to the price of fuel. Arguably the cost

You can never tell if youre going to win the
race before the nish line, but with the right
combination and a strong will, and youve
already won half the battle. Just ask Johan Joe
Mivec Haron Jaafar and Sutan Mustapha, who
recently won rst place in the Proton 1800 NA
category of the 2014 SNF Racing series.
One of two Daiki Oil sponsored cars in the
category, the duo fended off stiff competition
and managed to come rst, completing a total
of 22 laps in the 35-minute Enduro race of SNFR
Round 3. Piloting a Satria GTI, Joe and Sutan
from Innity Speed Work dominated the race
from start to nish after managing to secure
pole during qualifying.
Unfortunately for teammates, Roakhir Abdul
Malik and Mohd Khairul Anuar, a miscalculated
pit stop had forced a 60 second time penalty on
their total time. However, they still managed
to earn themselves a fourth place nish in their
Proton Satria.

While it may be true that every engine build is unique
and hardly do you nd two of the same engines pro-
ducing identical performance gures, the real answer
to remain competitive is in the tuning itself. Engine
management systems make or break performance.
Some even call it the brains of the operation because
what it does is monitor and process key engine pa-
rameters, make the necessary adjustments, and keep
the engine running like it should.
In this months Product Test we take a look at ECU-
MASTERs EMU (Engine Management Unit) and how it
works its magic on SUCIMUCI race car, a 4G15 Proton
Saga. Tuning of the EMU was done by DRAX Tuning
Innovations, the authorised distributor of ECUMASTER
in Malaysia.
In a nutshell, the EMU is an advanced engine man-
agement system for multi spark ignition engines that
on top of controlling all aspects of the engine, also
features built in safety measures in case of failures
or incorrect operation of sensors. The EMU is able
to work with the OEM engine sensors and supports
extended features such as shift light points, at
shifts, launch control, nitrous injection, advanced
boost control and more. It can also be used to control
the operation of variable valve timing, ETC, ignition
patterns and sequential injection.
Installation of the EMU to the test mule was a simple
and straightforward process. Once the car was
hooked up to the hub-dyno and the engine red up,
the task was then to massage the most out of the en-
gine. After some runs and the necessary correction to
the map, the car now makes 123.92 horsepower and
15.3 kg/m (150 NM) of torque which is nothing oth-
er than impressive for this engine. In case you were
wondering, the SUCIMUCI Saga runs a Mitsubishi 4G15
with race cams mated to adjustable pulleys, 77mm
pistons on the stock rods, and a 4G18 crankshaft.
One of the strong points of the EMU is its powerful
and intuitive Windows based software that bun-
dles help wizards, advanced data logging and built
in scope for easy troubleshooting and fast tuning.
Because of its versatility, EMU is commonly used in
motorsports, tuned steer cars, speed boats and even
power generators.

On average a car tyre has only as much as
a palm-size area of contact to the surface
beneath. That said, it is important we
understand the whats and whys of wheel
alignment. Anytime there is a change to a
cars ride height either by installing larger
wheels, replacing old shocks with adjustable
coilovers, or installing lowering springs, the
geometry of the suspension is affected. Spring
sag or suspension wear (steering systems such
as ball joints, bushings, etc.) may also cause
the suspension to operate outside its nominal
angles.
Notwithstanding which, misalignment can also
be the result of a collision or a hard impact
with a pothole or pavement. This alters the
angle of contact between tyre and road. If not
addressed, you will wear your tyres and affect
the overall handling, braking and ride quality.
Typically the alignment process consists of 3
basic parameters: toe, caster, and camber.
TOE ADJUSTMENTS - Toe is expressed in
either degrees or fractions-of-an-inch. The toe
angle identies the exact direction the tyres
are pointed relative to the centerline of the car
when viewed from above. Straight toe keeps
the wheels pointed straight, when pointed
slightly toward each other would be toe-in,
and away from each other would be toe-out.
Generally, performance cars are set with a
small amount of toe out. The toe out provides
directional stability and is typically used to
help compensate for the suspension bushings
compliance to enhance tyre life. Toe should be
checked often as any accident or a casual bump
on the pavement or changes in the ride height
may change your toe setting.
FOR MOST REAR-wheel drive cars because
of the rearward movement of the suspension
arms against the bushings, some positive toe-in
is used to enable the tyres to run parallel to
each other at speed. Conversely, the forward
movement of the suspension arms against its
bushings for front-wheel drive cars requires
instead some negative toe-out. Toe can also
be used to adjust the handling characteristics.
Increased toe-in will typically result in reduced
oversteer, help steady the car and enhance
high-speed stability. Increased toe-out will
typically result in reduced understeer, helping
free up the car, especially during initial turn-in
camber; if it slants away from the car, it has
positive camber. Most cars do not have factory
camber adjustability. Even if the adjustability is
built into the suspension, its only a small range
designed to make minor corrections. A lowered
car will exhibit a certain amount of negative
camber. As the drop increases, so does the
amount of negative camber. These issues get
exponentially worse the lower you go.
Camber kits allow you to reset the camber
angles to their optimum settings. Each kit
states the specic range of adjustment
possible. Aftermarket pillow ball mounts and
billet camber correction plate may be use as
replacements for the factory strut tops. This is
useful when more precise suspension tuning is
needed. Some complete suspension kits come
with the pillow ball mounts or offer them as an
upgrade. Use only high quality camber plates.
These will provide for a harsher ride but will
sharpen turns due to the elimination of rubber
with metal bearings. Rear camber adjustability
is not critical on most FWD cars.
An aggressive driver will prefer more negative
camber to benet from better cornering grip
and longer tyre life because of a larger contact

while entering a corner. Toe settings outside
the manufacturers recommended range will
heavily inuence drivability especially during
slippery conditions where the car would seem
unsettled. A toe setting that is just a little off
its appropriate setting can hasten the tyre wear
rate.
CASTER ADJUSTMENTS Caster is
expressed in degrees. This positions the wheel
forward or rearward when viewed directly from
the side of the car. Positive caster, positions the
wheel closer to the front bumper, and negative
caster, positions the wheel toward the rear of
the fender. Increasing the amount of positive
caster will increase steering effort and straight
line tracking, as well as improve high speed
stability and cornering effectiveness. Positive
caster, as with most performance cars also
increases tyre lean when cornering (almost like
having more negative camber) as the steering
angle is increased.
CAMBER ADJUSTMENTS - Camber is
expressed in degrees. This alters the angle of
the wheel relative to vertical, as viewed from
the front or the rear of the car. If the wheel
slants in towards the chassis, it has negative
area. Typically race cars are prep with lots
of negative camber in the front. Under hard
cornering, a wheel without camber will end up
wearing the sidewall of the tyre and losing grip
faster. However with more negative camber,
a reserved drivers lower cornering speeds
would cause the inside edges of the tyres to
wear faster than the outside edges, driving and
braking can feel oaty since the tyres are not
at on the ground. Excessive camber will also
reduce the available straight-line grip required
for rapid acceleration and hard stops. The
trick then is to use enough negative camber to
provide good cornering performance while not
requiring the tyre to put too much of its load on
the inner edge while traveling in a straight line.
ALIGNMENT SOLUTION Most car
specications for proper alignment settings
are pre-program and kept in the alignment
machines database. The tuner would select the
make, model and year of manufacture from
the screen. The manufacturers also provide the
acceptable minimum and maximum angles
for each car make. The minimum and maximum
camber and caster specications typically
result in a range that remains within plus or
minus 1-degree of the preferred angle. If for
whatever reason your car cant reach within
the acceptable range, replacing bent parts or
an aftermarket alignment kit will be required.
The ability to adjust toe and caster (if needed)
is built into most suspension setups. Most
stock FWD cars are setup to understeer as it is
deemed safest for the daily driver. If you are an
aggressive driver who enjoys corners and turns,
increase the front tyre pressure, decrease
the rear, dial in the manufacturers maximum
negative camber, maximum positive caster,
and set your toe-out slightly. Aftermarket
camber plates and caster adjustments are
good investments to fully realise this. You will
feel the difference; turn in at corners will be
sharper however straight-line tracking will be
somewhat compromised.
As a rule of thumb, most manufacturers
recommend having your alignment checked
every 20,000 km or annually and any time
unusual tyre wear patterns appear. Before
alignment ensure that the correct air pressure
is equal on all fours, check that steering
components are not worn or bent. Regular
wheel alignments should be part of your
preventive maintenance program.
We met up with Ben and Mikko of Shark Performance
to learn more about their tuning services and
commitment to quality
Shark Performance has been established for 5
years as a full time concept, initially starting
as a personal hobby of tuning cars done on
the weekends. From friends cars it eventually
spread to other garages in the UK who wanted
to offer their products, and continues to grow
by word of mouth and recommendations. Shark
Performance started out with Audi models,
tting Audi parts and tuning, and eventually
expanded to VAG models, Volvos (C30, S40, V50,
C70, etc), certain BMW and Mercedes models,
and even turbodiesel tuning as well.
Unlike other tuners that prefer to give aggressive
tuning, i.e. the most power at the earliest
possible time, Shark Performance approaches
their tuning by making their cars smooth and
progressive, which actually makes the faster car.
They have gained recognition from race teams
for their work and have even lent their skills to
teams of the Volkswagen Racing Cup in the UK,
which requires smooth progressive tuning rather
than raw aggression. Race cars require usable
and smooth performance at all times during a
race, and this same principle is applied to road
cars as well.
Shark Performances provides tuning from Stage
1 all the way to full custom. Stage 1 is a basic
car software upgrade that doesnt require
any hardware modications. Stage 2 includes
intake and exhaust upgrades. Stage 3 varies
depending on the car and the goal/purpose that
the customer wants to achieve. The next stage
onwards focuses on turbo modications, bigger
injectors, all the way to fully rebuilt engines.
But what sets them apart from the competitors
is that whatever stage of map that you decide to
have (Stage 1 or custom) Shark Performance can
alter the settings in any way that the customer
wishes. For example, if the customer wants
the throttle response to be aggressive Shark
Performance will map it that way. For this reason
Shark Performance has come down to Malaysia to
help with the customers settings, also because
of the different climate, weather and fuel
quality. For them, it is important to look at each
case individually and nd a setting that works
best for that car.
Shark Performance provides DSG upgrades as
well. Some of their work includes conversion
to full manual mode so that theres no kick
down, increasing the rev limit setting while
maintaining a safe limit, upgrading components
to deal with the higher power, decreasing the
lift time to make the car more responsive, and
changing the shift points not just for maximum
rpm but for normal driving benets as well.

2012 would see more parts arriving from overseas.
A custom Sunline Racing kit with rear CF ap and
Mines rear ducktail spoiler arrived from the USA as
well as a custom CarbonSignal V1 fender from Dubai,
which were successfully installed in March. The list
goes on as he installed a Show n Go license plate
kit, an SPC camber kit for all four corners, a custom
Zspeed engine undershroud cover, and a custom
Moddiction weighted shift knob. It was also later
in 2012 that Iwans custom K3 Projekt One wheels
arrived for the 370Z along with Muteki R35 lug nuts to
add a touch of style for his ride.
A big change came in May 2013 as Iwan decided to
sell off his kit and mods (save for the wheels) and
go back to stock for a 3 month period. With a blank
canvas once again, he started by purchasing a HKS
Hi-Power single mufer and fabricated a custom pipe
to make it a single exit style. Feeling that the other
exhaust opening is rather empty, Iwan cleverly lled
the space with a Benen Industries rear tow hook. This
time round Iwan spared no cost and bought a HKS
Hipermax 3 for the ideal lowering setup.
The exterior hasnt been altered much in an effort
to preserve its stylish appearance. A pair of custom
vents from Carbonsignal adds some much needed
aggressiveness to an otherwise calm-looking car. The
interior has also been adorned with Carbonsignal
trimmings in carbon ber red, and a single NRG
Vacuum gauge to monitor for any vacuum leaks. The
latest mods for the 370Z are H&R rear spacers and
all four tyres have been re-cambered to -3.1 up front
and -3.3 at the rear to achieve the perfect stance.

With the Proton Satria Neo going into its 8
th
year
of production we can condently afrm it to
be a successful successor to the original Proton
Satria. Originally available in either 1.3-liter or
1.6-liter, the Neo proved itself to be popular
amongst young motoring enthusiasts. Owners
have praised the Neo for its good chassis and
Lotus-derived handling.
Its popularity has allowed Proton to spawn
various versions, most notably the R3 version
of the Satria Neo. The team from Race Rally
Research set the benchmark for this version
by extracting the most out of the engine to
achieve 135bhp, along with an aerokit, 17-
inch wheels, upgraded brakes and suspension,
Recaro seats and a MOMO steering wheel.
Other special versions include the Satria Neo
Clubsport and Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing, as
well as racing versions like the Satria Neo Super
2000 rally car and Satria Neo CUSCO Edition.
This particular Neo is the CPS version, which
as the name suggests is equipped with the
CamPro CPS motor. The cam prole switching
mechanism improved the torque curve of the
new engine and bumped up horsepower to 125.
These new motors are very rev-happy and with
the right upgrades can give you enough fun
for spirited driving on the street and/or tight
roads.
So what do you really need when it comes to
selecting the essential parts without hurting
your wallet? Well, this ne example here has
all the basic performance upgrades (bpu) and
is a good guide for budding enthusiasts. When
in doubt, a good place to start is by upgrading
the intake and exhaust. This one has been tted
with a K&N intake kit and a Works Engineering
4-1 extractor into a custom exhaust system.
Other bpu include the iridium spark plug and
spark plug cable, a fuel pressure regulator, an
oil catch tank, and a set of HKS cam pulleys to
make it just a bit more aggressive. This model
benets from a 5-speed manual gearbox which
has been given an Exedy Super Single clutch
set.
Engine aside, it is the handling which makes
the Neo attractive to buyers. Stiffer suspension
and better brakes are good upgrades to turn
the Neo from a great handling car to a GREAT

handling car, and this Neo has everything to
make it GREAT. Doing away with the stock
suspension is now replaced with an aftermarket
setup consisting of a HWL adjustable kit, HKS
adjustable upper pillow ball, and Velocity alloy
lower arms. A fair bit of bracing has also been
injected into the chassis consisting of an Ultra
Racing 2-point front strut bar, Ultra Racing
4-point rear lower bar, and an ASR Beaks rear
subframe bar.
The Neo is a lightweight going at the sub
1,120kg so you dont necessarily need to get
a big brake kit unless youre chasing for the
ultimate limit. What the owner has opted
for are custom cross-drilled & slotted rotors
instead, which sufciently increases the braking
efciency. The wheels are bigger 17-inch Volk
Racing TE37 wheels on Bridgestone Sneaker
tyres (215/40R17) which give better road grip
from its increase in size.
Setting the exterior can make or break a car,
but luckily the Neo has local support from R3
which offers a complete bodykit to pull off its
aggressive racecar appearance. Cutouts on the
front and rear bumper add to the style and
functionality. The bonnet, fenders and trunk
appear to be off high quality FRP, but they are
actually wrapped in Karbon sticker Kevlar gold.
The Neo was never offered a sunroof option,
so the owner took liberty of customizing his
own with a Toyota item. The interior has been
untouched with the owner only preferring to
have a pair of SSCUS seats with the 3-point
racing harness.

When the Forester rst appeared in the market
I was confused by it. Was it an SUV? Was it a
station wagon? It certainly had a higher than
average ground clearance, but not so that you
would want to dive deep into mud with. What
Subaru did was introduce to the market one of
the rst crossover SUVs a vehicle built in the
style and comfort of a car with the capability
of some mild soft-roading.
As it turns out, Subaru paved the way for
new breed of cars which have become part
and parcel of todays culture. People love
crossovers and their survival in the automotive
market is a testament to that fact. And then
there are people like me who love wagons,
especially fast wagons. Good thing Subaru
has their STi division, which allowed them to
inject some fast into the Forester.
This lucky owner scored himself a 2000 model
Subaru Forester SF5 S/TB with a STi II Type M
EJ20 2.0-liter boxer 4-cylinder turbocharged
motor. The stock motor pushes out a healthy
250PS @ 6000rpm and 309Nm @ 4000rpm.
This one makes just over the stock gures. It
has a completely upgraded exhaust system,
starting up with a 3-inch HKS down pipe and
CUSCO up pipe, connecting to a custom 3-inch
piping, and out of a Blitz Nur exhaust. The
fuel pump has been upgraded to a Walbro unit
along with a Works fuel regulator to modulate
the fuel ow. Also installed is a HKS SSQV blow-
off valve and Samco Sport hoses.
Think of it as love child between an SUV and a Subaru Impreza

The owner uses a SYMS TRECS (Total Racing
Engine Control System) which plugs into the
standard ECU and removes the rev limiter and
speed cut. The ne adjustments of the boost
and the regulation of heat is possible via the
attached controller. The power is fed through
a 5-speed manual AWD gearbox which has been
enhanced with a HKS clutch.
The Foresters handling has been injected
with a lot of STi goodies. All four corners have
been swapped with OEM Subaru Impreza STi
Version 8 Spec C absorbers. The chassis has
been beefed up with an STi carbon strut bar,
STi Whiteline control arm bush, STi Whiteline
sway bar, and a CUSCO 4-point bar. The brakes
have been sourced from a Subaru WRX Ver.7,
consisting of a 4-pot for the front and 2-pot
for the rear. The Forester rolls on 17-inch OZ
Racing wheels and Continental tyres.
Its difcult to miss this car with its striking
army matte green paint and black wheels.
Further accentuating this look is the STi II
Type bodykit and custom tted WRX air scoop.
The factory interior is spiced up with a pair of
Subaru WRX Ver.8 seats, a Razo carbon gear
knob, and a set of meters to read the vitals.

Weve featured some awesome turbocharged
CR-Zs in our previous issue, and even a K20A-
swapped CR-Z last issue, but I reckon this one
has taken it up a notch. The garage that is
responsible for this red CR-Z is DTuning Services
and theyve done a great work building up the
car.
What makes it stand out initially is the custom
aftermarket bodykit layered in a bright red
paintjob. Unlike other kits which are add-ons
to the factory body parts, this kit replaces the
front bumper, side skirts, and rear bumper with
its custom design that aggressively transforms
the car into the mean, road-racing machine that
it is. And its designed so while adapting to the
lines of the CR-Z. Nothing feels out of place. The
white Enkei RPF1s and rear spoiler just makes
the package whole and complete.
If youve own or driven a CR-Z, then youd
know how light and nimble they are, but theres
always the feeling of something lacking. Nothing
a turbocharger cant solve. DTS wanted to go
big with their CR-Z, and that meant using a
Garrett GT28 billet turbocharger. It also meant
having to custom make parts, like the turbo
adapter (manifold) and 2.5-inch down pipe with
a Turbosmart wastegate.
DTuning Services is the shop to go to
The intake plenum is a custom made by the cool
guys at Tonnka who know how to make beautiful
high quality equipment with sick welds. The air
lter piping kit is also a DTS custom job with a
blow-off valve attached to it. A Blitz intercooler
is mounted on with a custom DTS intercooler
aluminium piping and intercooler silicon hose.
And it is nished off with a custom DTS exhaust
piping and custom DTS stainless steel 2.5-inch
mufer.
The engine has been given upgraded 380cc
injectors to feed the boost from the Garrett
GT28 turbocharger. Fresh fuel is fed from the
AEP Hi-ow fuel pump and ignition is generated
by NGK spark plugs. DTS also installed a Snow
Performance water methanol injection kit to
help prevent detonation or pre-ignition in the
engine. WORKS supplied an oil cooler kit, oil
catch tank, and oil lter for the CR-Z. All ttings
and clamps were sourced from DuraTech and a
Billion Super Thermo Cloth is used to protect the
clutch pump and power steering motor from the
excess heat generated.
The tuning has also been carried out by Daniel
of DTuning, who dyno tuned the CR-Z using a
Hondata FlashPro with a 4 bar Map sensor and
GReddy Profec E-01 boost controller. With a
proper successful tuning the engine is able
to achieve a nal output of 219PS @ 6100rpm
and 296Nm of torque @ 4700rpm! Consider
that it originally produced 112hp @ 6000rpm
and 145Nm @ 4800rpm. Of course this meant
that the 6-speed manual gearbox needed to
be reinforced and DTS gave it a custom racing
clutch with Torco RTF Racing Transmission Fluid.
To aid with deceleration, DTS sourced a bigger
brake pump and discs from a Honda CF4 as well
as equipped the turbo CR-Z with Nankang NS-2R
for better road grip.

Platform sharing is nothing new in the industry.
It allows companies to reduce cost and have a
more efcient product development process.
However, public response to platform sharing
is often mixed with some favoring it while
others against it.
Sure everybody knows the Proton Saga is
based off the Mitsubishi Lancer, but so was
the Dodge/Plymouth Colt and Eagle Vista.
The Proton Waja? It was also a Volvo S40. Saab
9-2X? Subaru Impreza. Aston Martin Cygnet?
Toyota iQ. It is thanks to platform sharing
that we have the Proton Inspira a Mitsubishi
Lancer at a fraction of the cost.
The Inspiras design is actually pretty decent
and a nod to our in-house designers, but this
one has favoured the Mitsubishi Lancer bodykit
conversion for a more appealing factor. The
engine is same 4B11 2.0-liter MIVEC inline
4-cylinder found in the Mitsubishi Lancer, as is
the 6-speed INVECS-III CVT automatic.
Lavella sure is lovely
This Inspira has been lightly tuned up to give a
power increase without sacricing reliability.
The main upgrade component comes from the
Stage 1 remap and EFR2 unit to squeeze more
power out of the factory ECU. A Zerone Power
Drive throttle controller is installed to sharpen
the response of the electronic throttle valve and
comes with 3 modes to choose from: Normal,
Eco & Sport. A set of Zerone Power Meter gauges
read the water temp, oil temp, and oil press for
the driver.
Not much has been fettled in the engine, but
it has a BMC air lter for a better breathe of
fresh air and Denso Iridium Power spark plugs
for a higher ignition performance. A custom
straight stainless steel exhaust brings out a raw
unsilenced audio sensation of the engine when
you get on the throttle. The 6-speed gearbox may
get overworked from heavy usage so a Hayden
ATF Cooler is added to keep it going strong.
The focus on the Inspira has been given to the
suspension tuning. At the core of it is a Zerone
SSR 700 Series Fully Adjustable Coilover Kit to
give the owner full control over the setup and
ne tuning of the handling. The chassis has been
stiffened up with a complete kit of Ultra Racing
parts, consisting of a front bar, rear bar, side
lower bar, and rear anti roll 25mm to ensure
optimum grip and minimum body roll during
cornering. A set of Advan Racing TC III wheels
proves to be an excellent choice to match with
the looks of the Inpsira.
If this were my car she can sit on

The craziest machine of them all might well
be the one youre looking at in this months
Hypertune magazine. The very minute I
laid eyes on it, I knew it was a car that I
absolutely had to feature.
Created over the course of three years
and completed in January, the Nissan
180SX has undergone massive amounts
of transformative work, culminating in a
nished product that is doing the rounds for
the Drift Muscle championship in 2014.
Yes, you read that right. This is a 180SX and
not an R35 GT-R. Imai san is a bit of a mad
scientist when it comes to the machines he
creates and he loves a good joke like the
rest of us. He takes great delight in the
expletives that invariably fall from the
mouths of awestruck fans the moment they
lay eyes on this little weapon, giggling like
a school boy the entire time.
I will admit that I was muttering a few
choice adjectives of my own as I took it all
in. The low slung RPS13 chassis just drips
with question marks, bristles with intent
and is coated in a hue that is a signature
hallmark of Bee-R.
Leave it to Bee-R to come up with the wildest body conversions
And then, you pull the door handle and the door
swings upward. Scissor doors look great on some
cars, horrible on others and opinions are divided
on whether they suit anything at all but on the
B80R, they really do work as a visual treat and
serve as more proof that Imai san likes to troll
the tuner community at large!
Mechanically, there are loads of interesting details
to take in. The chassis being the most impressive.
It was stripped back to metal, spot and seam
welded and endowed with a comprehensive and
rigidity enhancing multi-point roll cage. The real
surprise was where strengthening was added to
areas the eye wont normally see. This includes
bracing through the engine bay on either side of
the re wall that extends through to the cabin
and also underneath on either side of the chassis
rails. Needless to say, the B80R is stiffer than
a double shot of Louis XIII straight up with no
chaser.
I believe all good builds, indeed the best ones,
start from the ground up at chassis level, so its
always nice to see a builder beginning from that
point, instead of just adding parts and pieces to
a car, which is, as it is so often the case, dictated
by their budgets.
As if scissor doors and R35 bodywork on an RPS13
chassis wasnt crazy enough, we then go and pop
the double hinged bonnet, with the lid rising
vertically from the front. Underneath, we are
confronted with 500hp of Toyotas nest.
Imai san has indeed unlocked l33t
level status among expert level trolls.
And the 2JZ looks right at home in the
engine bay, with the obvious massaging
of the rewall necessary to get the top
mount turbod straight six to t. Imai has
taken a slightly conservative approach
to power output given that reliability is
key for the series and informed me that,
in the drift world, a standard Getrag 6
speed is good for a reliable 500hp. I have
heard of these boxes being able to take
1000hp but not without them smashing
through gears shortly after.
Ofcially, the 2JZ donk makes a lazy
455hp @ 5600rpm and 48kgs of torque
@ 5400rpm. It easily makes this power
thanks to a few light modications
including Tomei camshafts, Trust front
mount intercooler, HKS fuel rail, a
GCG GTX35-82R top mount turbo and
Adaptronic engine management.

Inside the bell-housing for the Getrag, Imai has
installed an ORC triple plate clutch to transfer
the abuse to the Nismo two-way mechanical
differential. Braking duties are taken care of
with standard Nissan calipers front and rear but
have been added to with Endless brake pads.
Housing these is a set of beautiful gunmetal grey
Enkei RS05RR wheels measuring 18x10.5J on
all corners. These gems were then wrapped in
Goodyear RS-Sport rubber measuring 255/35/18
on the front and 265/35/18 at the rear.
The B80R has a great turning circle thanks to
the addition of DriftWorks suspension hubs and
knuckles but one really interesting modication
was the use of Kei-Ofce dampers mated to GP
Sports springs, effectively giving the B80R a
much shorter stroke.
If we dive inside the car, we are presented with
an almost NASCAR like interior, the metal panels
that make up the dash being a visual indication.
This custom setup has been lled with Des
nest and is dominated by the main tachometer
and speedometer gauges. In the center panel
there is a De link unit along with a Greddy boost
controller and a number of custom switches that
handle basic functions for the lights and wipers.
The Nissan has a real race-car aura to it and is
a lot lighter than stock thanks to the deletion of
virtually all interior plastics and other materials.
The Bride Low Max semi bucket and HPI harnesses
keep Imai strapped in while one of the only real
visual clues to the cars origin comes in the form
of the standard 180SX seat for the passenger.
Besides the seat, the only other clues would be
the roof line and chassis plate!
The R35 bodywork really suits this car well
and has been expertly applied on all sides. Its
basically a complete set of parts including the
front and rear assemblies as well as the fenders,
sidesteps and doors. R35 doors possess a different
prole to the 180SX and if you look closely, you
can see where the R35 door ends and the 180SX
door continues on.
36 long months after beginning the project, Bee-
Rs B80R is now turning all wheels in anger for
the Drift Muscle championship and it sits right at
home among the other challengers not only in a
visual aspect but also in a mechanical one. Over
the course of the shoot at Bee-R, I felt myself
becoming more and more enamored with this
180SX, poring over every little detail and adding
them to the weight of my nal thoughts.
I cant even imagine what Imai san is going to
come up with next but I know its going to be
nothing short of amazing. I am also certain its
going to be a car that will shock those who see it
since that is the nature of the builder himself. He
will smile broadly as your brain tries to process
what your eyes are feeding it.
We all live in a world where cars are becoming
more and more like appliances we switch on
and switch off, so I dont say this lightly when
I suggest that Imai san and Bee-R represent the
purest of pure approaches to tuning and motor
sport. And with that, Im off to crack open
a beer and toast to Bee-Rs future successes
and endeavors. What would our world be like
without mad scientists like Kiyonori Imai adding
R35 bodywork, a 2JZ engine and scissor doors to
a 180SX chassis? Pretty damn boring if you ask
me!

And to add to the madness -
a 2JZ motor from a Toyota
Theres nothing quite like the feeling of a supercar convoy with
like-minded friends to get you away from the buzz. A weekends
getaway has so much to offer; and when it involves going places
in a gang of high powered machines and meeting new faces
which you can automatically connect with, it becomes priceless.
And thanks to ATS Automobile, a renowned Nissan R35 GT-R
tuning shop in Bandar Sunway, this sort of thing happens on
a regular basis. Every couple of months or so, ATS invites its
customers and friends to leave work behind and join in on a
drive that helps your supercar breathe right. These convoys are
dubbed ATS Penang Cruize.
One such convoy was held just recently, on the 17 and 18 of May
2014. A total of 70 cars made up mostly of R35s, a number of
Ferraris, an Audi, a Porsches, and a Lamborghinis made the
trip to the island of Penang. Leading the group as they charged
down the north south highway was an AMG C63, while members
of the media who tagged along were ferried in a Toyota Vellre.
Before heading off, the owners met up at the Sungai Buloh R&R
in the morning and were given a little safety
brieng by Bone, the owner of ATS. Safety and a
convoy of supercars on the open highway might
seem like a paradox but the primary aim was
to prevent any mishaps because lets face it,
this isnt going to be a Sunday morning grocery
run with most of the GT-Rs packing Cobb Tuning
Access Port remaps,Various brand upgraded
turbos, Injector Dynamics injectors, Dodson
clutch packs, AMS & HKS Goodies, PPG gearsets,
Alcon Brake System, Carbon Fibre Aero Parts
and Various brand Exhaust systems, some of the
parts that ATS carries.
The convoy made little of the 400 kilometer
journey and met up with the northern GT-R
owners in Bukit Merah. From this point onwards
the convoy was escorted by outriders and eased
back on the throttle as they took in the sights
from the newly opened bridge.
Lunch was served in Muara Penang, and the
best way to the hotel from there was through
the windy roads of Balik Pulau. The route was
picturesque, with lush greenery and a vast body
of water in the background. After checking in
and getting settled in Park Royal Hotel, the con-
voy headed out for dinner in Queensbay, before
calling it a night.
The next morning, the convoy stuck to the plan
of lunch in Juru AutoCity before heading back
to Kuala Lumpur. All in all, it was another suc-
cessful trip for ATS and their customers. Were
pretty sure everyone cant wait for the next
trip theyve got planned.
With the success of the rst impromptu session
of The Takeover, a follow-up was in order and
this time it had to be bigger. Spearheaded by Mat
Canyon, who is a strong acionado for the local
car tuning scene, the event was organized by
word of mouth and through social media.
There was a signicant increase of cars this time
round, which made it a perfect opportunity to

The meeting point this time round would be at a
disclosed location in Putrajaya to accommodate
the attendance of over 100+ cars. The groups
consisted of Mitsubishi Evolutions, Subaru
Imprezas, Nissan Silvias, Nissan Skylines,
Toyotas, BMWs, Starlets/Charades, and other
various makes.
After a short drivers brieng with all the
attendance, the convoy rolled out by 11.00pm.
With the engines red up, the rides rolled out for
a spectacular display of organized chaos along
the Mex highway. The mass squadron of muscle
machines marched on to the awe of other road
users and exited to the Shah Alam highway. The
nal destination would be at R&R Awan Besar
were the owners could take a break and mingle
around.
It was also a signicant occasion to pay homage
to the late Paul Walker and Roger Rodas.
Everyone came out to sign a picture sheet and
gave respect to them. All in all, it was a great
night out and any reason to get out and drive is
a good reason to do so.

Following the successful season opener during the
2014 Formula 1 Malaysia Grand Prix, Round 2 of the
13th Malaysian Super Series was equally as electrifying
with premier international events running alongside
as support races. With racing events from China, Hong
Kong, Macau and Thailand happening during the same
weekend, MSS Round 2 was stretched to 4-days, with
drivers taking to the 5.543km Sepang Circuit as early
as Thursday.
The international events that ran alongside MSS was the
single-seater Asia Formula Renault, the Clio Cup China
Series, the Hong Kong Touring Car Championship, the
Macau-based Touring Car Series Asia, the Thailand 1500
Super Production Series, the Thailand Super 2000 Series,
the Thailand Super Car Series and the Asian Classic Car
Challenge (ACCC).
Also happening was the highly anticipated season opener
of the 2014 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Series. The
spectacular two race event was a display of raw power,
nesse and speed which left many spectators in awe as
the top teams in the series fought intense battle just to
make it to the podium. In Race 1, Max Wiser and Jiang
Xin proved that they are the team to beat as the duo
soared to the top spot on Saturdays podium. Settling
for second was Dilantha Malagamuwa / Satoshi Hoshino,
while the partnership of Zen Low / Dominic Ang took
the nal spot on the podium.

Then on Sunday it was a repeat of yesterdays
performance by Max Wiser / Jiang Xin and Dilantha
Malagamuwa / Satoshi Hoshino as they took rst
and second respectively in Race 2. Japanese duo
Toshiyuki Ochiai and Manabu Orido was a close 3
seconds behind, earning them a third place nish
to score some solid points. Following Sepang, the
2014 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series
will hold its second race for the season in Sentul,
Indonesia on 7 - 8 June.
All eyes were then turned to the Malaysian Super
Series which opened on Saturday. Unlike the
opening round which featured two sprint races,
Round 2 onwards will see competitors do battle
in a one-hour endurance race format.
In GT Open Class, AAI Motorsports completed a
1-2 nish with Jun-San Chen / Oliver Stephen
Millroy taking the top spot, while teammates
Tatsuya Tanigawa / Han Chen settled for second.
In third was the partnership of Marcus Chye /
Rocky Siow in their Juno, with Natasha Seatter
nishing in fourth position.
Defending champion Tommy Lee shared driving
duties of his Integra DC5 for Round 2 with Damien
Dielenberg. Starting from the back of the grid
the duo drove an incredible race to eventually
take rst place. The win strengthens their lead
in the championship ladder. Pentagon Racings
Chris Tan and Alan Wong tried their best to keep
up with the pace but were forced to settle for a
close second. Taking the nal spot for the Touring
Production podium was N1 Racing duo Desmond
Yee and Soo Yong.
Tedco Racings Mark Darwin and Fitra Eri
continued to dominate the Malaysian Touring
Car Challenge following their win in the previous
round. Displaying ne teamwork and strong
determination the duo made it across the line in
a time of 51:13.980 seconds, awarding them the
win in Round 2 and extending their lead in the
championship. Defending champions Proton R3
Motorsports, with Syaq Ali and James Veerapen
at the helm of the Suprima and Preve took
second and third respectively.
The Malaysian Super Series action will continue with Round 3 happening from the 18th to the 22nd June 2014.
Remember when Aloysius Lek from LHB Motorsports
took on Sepangs 5.543km circuit in his R35 GTR and
smashed the clocked with a time of 2:21.602 seconds?
Well, that was some ve months ago, and now the big
boys, with their big guns, are at it again as Zerotohun-
dreds TimeToAttack (TTA) returns to nd out who is
the fastest man in Sepang.
You can call it the most anticipated time attack event
this side of the region, because it is. TTA has managed
to garner the efforts of some of the biggest names in
the county and from the neighboring regions. Since its
inception in 2010, every round of TTA has come back
bigger and better. Round 1 of the 2014 series is no
different.
While the contested categories generally remain the same, this
year the event organisers have raised the participation limit to
140 cars, which is 40 more entries compared to the previous
editions. Sufce to say with so many different makes and models
on track, no enthusiast goes home feeling disappointed.
For 2014 Zerotohundred also worked closely with Retro Havoc
to get the local custom culture and modern classics involved in
the event. Alongside these beautifully restored classics and rare
machines, #parkit also incorporated a vivid display of street cubs,
evidently a growing trend with motorcycle enthusiast.
With so much to see and do off-track, its a wonder how the com-
petitors could stay focused to the task at hand. Back in the pits,
one by one, drivers went out to give it their best shot, and
slowly the celebrated wall of fame started taking shape.
Ultimately it was Desmond Soh who emerged as the man to
beat, crushing the previous TTA record by over 5 seconds. Soh
from ST Powered Singapore drove his Mitsubishi Evo 9 across
the line in a super quick 2:16.297 seconds in the Time Attack
Machines category. Equally as impressive and just a second
and a half shy of the record was Arthur Lo and Shaun Yip from
Ascendant Motorsport, who clinched the fastest time for a
road-going car at 2:17.653 seconds, in an R35 GTR.
