Statement of Purpose

To the Graduate Selection Committee


I am Mr. Udit V. Desai. I have a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am
applying to your Masters of Science in Automotive Engineering for the fall of 2014.
Working on machines has been my passion. I am more of a practical person than a person
who believes in theory.

The course work of my bachelors includes team project work in the Final Year. The team
consisted of five students. In the final year project we had made a Gas Turbine Engine
using a turbo-charger from an old truck. The project included designing of an external
combustion chamber. I looked after the designing of the parts that were to be built. The
project when complete had the similar sound that you will hear near the airport. This
project also was the runner-up in the Inter-college project making competition Innovision
'12.

While we were working it helped me to learn new and different aspects of the machines
that got me attraceted more towards them. While toiling on the project my interest in
machines intensified. This made me think about the different alterations that could be
made to make a good product. Various tests had to be done to keep a check on the project
progression. For the combustion chamber, we did testing such as NDT, X-Ray test that
helped to understand more about the details of the machines that were always unseen by
the naked eye.

A few subjects during my course work increased my interest in working with machines.
Subjects like Thermodynamics and Fluid mechancis changed my way of looking at
things. Automobile Engineering made me think about new methods that I can make some
new development in my car itself that helped in making my car more efficient. The other
subjects helped me to link each other and make new developments. The entire activity
has been extremely exciting.

During the two years job, I learnt many new things that help me to become work
oriented, focused and precise. Being a technical advisor at a manufacturing unit kept me
on my toes and made me organized in keeping relations with juniors, seniors and other
companies. This helped me in changing my work methods, making me more efficient.


Cars have been my first love since childhood. Sound of the engine and the look of a car
have always captivated me. I want to make new designs, new cars that I would love to
drive in. My long term career goal is to make new cars. Develop new technologies to
replace petrol and diesel. To create the unbelievable and to live it. Currently I have
started certificate courses for 3D Max, Mudbox, Sketchbook, AutoCAD showcase.

I am sure that formally studying Automotive Engineering available at your University
will give me more knowledge and will help me hone my skills. It will also make me more
aware of the development in industries of United Kingdom. It would be my honour and
pleasure to study at your esteemed university and I will put my best effort into this
course.
