Dozens of rockets fired at Israel as Hamas ends ceasefire,
IDF hits back - Adiv Sterman -

Israel waits 2.5 hours as rockets from Gaza pummel Negev towns, then resumes air
campaign suspended on Tuesday

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon ordered
the IDF Friday to "respond with force" to rocket fire against Israel originating from
the Gaza Strip, after Palestinian terror groups in Gaza broke the ceasefire at 8 a.m.
and began firing dozens of rockets at southern Israel.

Hamas officials refused to extend the three-day cease-fire, but said they were willing
to continue negotiations in Cairo. Israel said it would not negotiate under fire and
would protect its citizens by all means. The Israeli delegation left Cairo on Friday
morning, and it was not clear if it would return. Egyptian officials were continuing
talks with the Palestinian delegation, which was reportedly divided, with PA
representatives having urged an extension of the ceasefire, overruled by Hamas

Within minutes after the temporary truce expired at 8 a.m., Gaza militants began
firing rockets. By afternoon, some 40 rockets had been fired. Some 30 landed in
Israel, several were intercepted and at least four fell short in Gaza, the army said.
Four Israelis were hurt, one seriously. One rocket landed meters from a gasoline
station. Later, a rocket directly hit a home in Sderot.

Israel eventually responded with what the military said were strikes "across Gaza."
Police in Gaza said that most of the strikes hit empty fields, but that one struck the
backyard of the Nour al-Mohammadi Mosque in the Gaza City neighborhood of
Sheik Radwan, killing a 10-year-old boy.

Police also reported fire from Israeli tanks on northern Gaza and from Israeli
gunboats at the central area of the strip.

In Israel, the army said it was prohibiting gatherings of more than 1,000 people in
Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other areas within 80 kilometers (50 miles) of the Gaza
border because of the rocket fire.

The resumption of violence cast doubt over the Cairo negotiations.

Both Israel and Hamas are under international pressure to reach a deal. As part of
such an arrangement, Israel wants to see Hamas disarmed or prevented from re-
arming, while Hamas demands Gaza's borders be opened. Israel and Egypt
maintain a security blockade of Gaza to prevent Hamas importing more weaponry.

Hamas, which has seen its popularity boosted for confronting Israel, entered the
Cairo talks from a point of military weakness after losing hundreds of fighters, two-
thirds of its rockets arsenal and all of its attack tunnels.

With no definitive statement that it would return to open war, the group appeared to
be keeping its options open while several smaller Gaza militant organizations
claimed responsibility for Friday's rocket fire.

Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev blamed Gaza militants for breaking the
ceasefire. "The ceasefire is over," Regev said. "They did that."

The three-day truce came after a month of Israel-Hamas fighting, the third cross-
border confrontation in just over five years.

Israel launched an air campaign on the coastal territory on July 8, and nine days
later, sent in ground troops to target rocket launchers and cross-border tunnels built
by Hamas for attacks inside Israel.

Since then, Israeli strikes on Gaza killed nearly 1,900 Palestinians, and displaced
tens of thousands of people. Israel says 750-1,000 of the dead are gunmen, and
blames Hamas for all the civilian fatalities, since Hamas used Gazans as "human
shields" for its rockets and tunnels, Netanyahu said Wednesday.

Sixty-seven people, all but three of them soldiers, were killed on the Israeli side, and
Gaza militants fired more than 3,000 rockets at Israel over the past month. Eleven
soldiers were killed by gunmen emerging inside Israel from the cross-border tunnels,
which Netanyahu said were built as Hamas planned to carry out "catastrophic" acts
of terrorism against Israelis.

Israel and Egypt imposed the blockade after the violent Hamas takeover of Gaza in
2007. The closure led to widespread hardship in the Mediterranean seaside territory,
home to 1.8 million people. Movement in and out of Gaza is limited, the economy
has ground to a standstill and unemployment is over 50 percent.

Israel argues that it needs to keep Gaza's borders under a blockade as long as
Hamas, designated a terrorist group by Israel, the US and others, tries to smuggle
weapons into Gaza or manufactures them there. Hamas refuses Israel's demands,
backed by the US, EU and others, that it disarm.

It has said it is willing to hand over some power in Gaza to enable its long-time rival,
Western-backed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, to lead Gaza
reconstruction efforts but that it would not give up its arsenal and control over
thousands of armed men.

The Gaza war grew out of the abduction and killing of three Israeli teens in the West
Bank in June. Israel blamed the killings on Hamas and launched a massive arrest
campaign, rounding up hundreds of the group's members in the West Bank, as
Hamas and other militants unleashed rocket fire from Gaza. Israel says the West
Bank organizers of the terror cell, who is under arrest, has admitted the June killings
were ordered and funded by Hamas in Gaza.

Hamas refused to extend the ceasefire and vowed to renew rocket attacks after
Israel rejected all of the group's core demands in indirect talks in Cairo, senior
Hamas officials stated Friday. Hamas had demanded that Israel agree, in principle,
to end Gaza's border closure, release Hamas operatives arrested in recent weeks in
the West Bank, and other measures.

"We have one position, we refuse to extend the ceasefire, it is a final decision," said
one Hamas official after a long meeting with Egyptian mediators, AFP reported.

"Israel did not propose anything," he added. "It did not agree to end the blockade [of
the Gaza Strip]."

On Wednesday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz said Israel was prepared to
strike Hamas leaders when they emerge from hiding, and warned that the army
would retaliate strongly if the terror organization resumed firing rockets at Israel.

"Its commanders sit in their bunkers in hiding, and everywhere we can hit them, we
will hit, if we want to. They will go outside when they please - if they do, they will see
the extent of the damage to their fighters and the damage in the Gaza Strip, which
unfortunately, is Hamas's fault. I hope this lesson will be internalized in the Gaza
Strip, because we will not hesitate to continue to mobilize our forces as necessary to
ensure the security of Israeli citizens," he said.

"We aren't done," Gantz added. "If there are incidents, we will respond to them."

Despite the withdrawal of all its troops from Gaza by the time the three-day truce
began early on Tuesday, Israel has retained tens of thousands of troops along the
border who are ready to respond to any resumption of fighting.

Obama's new plan for Hamas - Caroline B. Glick -

President Barack Obama has a plan.

He wants to use the cease-fire talks in Cairo to strengthen Fatah.

In remarks Wednesday, Obama said, "I have no sympathy for Hamas. I have great
sympathy for some of the work that has been done in cooperation with Israel and
the international community by the Palestinian Authority. And they've shown
themselves to be responsible. They have recognized Israel. They are prepared to
move forward to arrive at a two-state solution. I think [PA Chairman and Fatah
leader Mahmoud Abbas, a.k.a.] Abu Mazen is sincere in his desire for peace."

Obama's plans for the cease-fire were spelled out in detail the day before in a
column by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius. There Ignatius claimed that
Secretary of State John Kerry has abandoned his previous position on the cease-
fire. That position was harshly criticized by Israeli leaders and US media
heavyweights, including Ignatius himself, for its clear bias in favor of Hamas.

In contrast to Kerry's previous adoption of all of Hamas's demands as official US
positions, Ignatius wrote that "over the past week, [Kerry] has been crafting a cease-
fire plan that seeks to stabilize Gaza under the leadership of Abbas and the
moderate Palestinian Authority.... [The PA] (with the support of the international
community) would have overall responsibility for the rehabilitation of Gaza."

Ignatius continued, "The thrust of Kerry's new plan is to leverage Hamas's unity pact
with Fatah and its pledge to transfer authority in Gaza to the [PA]. As a first step, the
Palestinian Authority and its US-trained security service would assume responsibility
for policing the Rafah crossing from Gaza into Egypt, as well as the passages into

Fatah, Ignatius said, "would begin paying the salaries of Palestinian civil servants in
Gaza, assuming that the details could be worked out. The agreement might also
move toward disarmament of all terrorist groups in Gaza."

By empowering Fatah in this way, Ignatius explained, Kerry - and Obama - are "now
headed in the right direction - away from strengthening Hamas and toward
empowering the moderates on whom hopes for a more stable and secure Gaza

Ignatius then turned to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and challenged him to
join with Kerry and agree "to truly open Gaza to the free flow of people and goods in
return for disarming the terrorist groups."

While the administration's new plan sounds nice in theory, it has one basic problem.

Hamas and Fatah are partners. Hamas's demands are Fatah's demands. Hamas's
goals are Fatah's goals. Giving Fatah control of the borders means giving Hamas
control of the borders.

Abbas said himself in a speech broadcast on the PA's official station in December
2009, as he was trying to form the sort of Fatah-Hamas unity government that he
established in April, "There is no disagreement between us [Fatah and Hamas]:
About belief? None! About policy? None! About resistance? None!" Earlier this week
The Jerusalem Post's Khaled Abu Toameh explained that almost from the outset of
the war, Hamas and Fatah have been working in perfect harmony.

Fatah officials have served as Hamas's spokesmen to the Western media.

As Hamas conducted its terrorist war against Israel, Abbas led the diplomatic war
against Israel.

Moreover, Abu Toameh reported that during the course of the hostilities, Fatah paid
the salaries of Hamas members.

Due to Hamas's designation as a foreign terrorist organization, continued funding of
the PA is illegal under US counterterror statutes. Fearing that Congress would move
to enforce the law and end US aid to the PA, before the war Fatah refused to pay
Hamas's membership.

For whatever reason, Abbas and his comrades are no longer concerned that
financing their terrorist partners from their donor-financed budget will endanger the
US's annual gift of $440 million.

From the outset of Hamas's campaign against Israel, Fatah militias in Gaza
participated in the mortar and rocket attacks against Israel. And far from trying to
hide this fact, Fatah's leadership reveled in it. They posted news of Fatah's mortar
attacks on Israel on their official social media sites.

Fatah published a poster on its official Fatah Facebook page on July 9 under the
title "Brothers in Arms." The poster depicted terrorists from Fatah, Hamas and
Islamic Jihad and read, "One God, on homeland, one enemy, one goal."

As for the cease-fire talks, last month Abbas traveled to Qatar where he met with
Hamas terror master Khaled Mashaal. The result of the meeting was a coordinated
Palestinian position regarding cease-fire demands. Those demands, which require
Israel and Egypt to open the borders, are silent on the issue of demilitarizing Gaza.
This is the unified position of the Palestinian delegation to the ceasefire talks in
Cairo which Obama noted hopefully, is being led by Fatah.

In other words, Obama's new position on the cease-fire terms is the same position
he has held from the outset. He supports Hamas's extortionist demands from Israel
and Egypt to open Gaza's borders in order to enable the terror group to resupply
and rebuild its terror infrastructure.

The only thing that is new about his current stand is that now he supports bringing
Hamas's supposedly moderate partners in Fatah in as window dressing.

For those who have been willing to pay attention to Abbas's actions and those of his
Fatah comrades, nothing in their behavior during the war has been remotely

Since the PA was established in 1994, Fatah and Hamas have had a cooperative
relationship. The only times that Fatah has fought Hamas have been when Fatah
felt directly threatened by Hamas. And the moment that perceived threat abated,
Fatah ended its operations and restored its cooperation with Hamas.

Abu Toameh reported that in the latest war, Abbas instructed his security
commanders to suspend their operations against Hamas in Judea and Samaria.
After all, they are his partners, not his rivals.

Beyond that, Fatah supports weapons smuggling across the Egyptian border.
Having Fatah in charge of the border crossings would not prevent Hamas and
Islamic Jihad from replenishing their arsenals and rebuilding their tunnels of death. It
will enable them to do so.

And again, we know this from the PA/Fatah's track record.

From the start of the Palestinian terror war in September 2000 until Hamas ejected
Fatah from Gaza in June 2007, Fatah was in control of the borders with Israel and
Egypt. During this period, it engineered the weapons smuggling operations into
Gaza. The Iranian weapons ship Karine-A that Israeli naval commandos intercepted
in the Red Sea en route to Gaza in January 2003 was commanded by the deputy
head of the PA's naval force, a member of Fatah. The weapons deal was negotiated
with Yasser Arafat's paymaster Fuad Shubaki.

Tunnel building began during Fatah's period of control over Gaza. When then Cpl.
Gilad Schalit was abducted from Israel to Gaza in June 2006 by terrorists who
entered his base from an underground tunnel that traversed the border, Fatah, led
by Abbas, still controlled Gaza.

As for those Fatah military forces trained by the US military, they are no better than
the Iraqi military forces the Americans trained.

When Hamas threw Fatah out of Gaza in 2007, Fatah's US-trained troops and
officers were the first to flee.

The counterterror training US military trainers lavished on them had no impact on
their willingness to stand their ground against Hamas. They didn't even try to fight.

And yet, Obama's plan is to bring these same Fatah forces back to Gaza. He and
Kerry (and Ignatius), want Israel to believe that these Fatah forces will demilitarize
Hamas in exchange for open borders, which they will secure and prevent Hamas
from using as a means to rebuild its arsenals and replenish its financing.

Not that they weren't clear before, but two things became blindingly obvious during
the war.

First, Hamas is very bad. It really and truly is dedicated to Israel's destruction. It is
willing to engage in Palestinian child sacrifice in order to kill Jews. It used all the aid
it received, all the money, all the concrete to build a terror infrastructure and missile
arsenal dedicated to killing Jews.

Nothing else matters to Hamas leaders, not Gaza, not Palestine, not their mothers
and children.

There is no way for Israel to reach a long term non-aggression pact with Hamas. It
can only be defeated through direct military operations and attrition.

The other thing we learned was that Israel simply cannot, under any circumstances,
consider withdrawing from Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. Netanyahu made this
point explicitly in his press conference at the outset of the war. He explained, "If we
were to pull out of Judea and Samaria like they tell us to there'd be a possibility of
thousands of tunnels" being dug to attack Israel.

Netanyahu noted that the Palestinians dug 1,200 tunnels under Gaza's 14-
kilometer-long border with Egypt.

Judea and Samaria, he continued, are 20 times the size of Gaza, and Israel is not
prepared "to create another 20 Gazas."

As soon as the cease-fire began, the Israeli Left reverted to type. The media began
pillorying Netanyahu for not viewing the war with Hamas as an opportunity for a
diplomatic breakthrough with Abbas and Fatah.

Netanyahu, they accuse, tricked them. He wasn't weakening Hamas to strengthen

He was simply weakening Hamas so that it couldn't harm Israel.

Netanyahu's erred during the fighting when he made the demilitarization of Gaza a
declared war aim. By doing so he opened the door for the Left, the White House and
the EU to begin spewing their absurd lies about Fatah as a credible, moderate force
that can be depended on - with their taxpayer dollars and euros - to demilitarize

In his remarks, Obama indicated that the world - that is the US and Europe - must
be involved in any cease-fire deal related to Gaza. And for the privilege of having
them on board, Israel needs to accept Hamas-Fatah's demand for open borders.

But the truth is that the US and the EU are completely unnecessary. Israel and
Egypt can secure the borders. And if the Americans and Europeans are concerned
for the welfare of the people of Gaza, they can transfer their aid to Israel, which can
distribute it to those who need assistance rather than handing it over to Hamas.

The reason Netanyahu isn't trying to use the war in Gaza to promote a wider peace
with Fatah is because Fatah is not interested in peace with Israel. As it showed
again during the war, Fatah is Hamas's partner, not Israel's. And any deal with
Fatah is a deal that strengthens Hamas.

Ignatius is wrong. The administration still backs Hamas's demands against Israel. It
just updated the talking points to align with Ignatius's entirely incorrect preconceived
notions about the nature of Fatah.

There Will be Blood - Amil Imani -

Islam presently has its stranglehold over on a billion humans and the rest of
humanity ignores this threat at its peril.

From Northern Iraq to Northeastern Syria, from Nairobi, Kenya to Benghazi, Libya,
from Lahore, Pakistan to the rugged mountains of Mali and Afghanistan, militant
Muslims have executed tens of thousands of their fellow Muslims and are on a
killing rampage against Christians. The world is shocked and distressed.

The Islamic killing campaign did not end with the defeat of the Muslim armies at the
gates of Vienna. Their eviction from Spain was a temporary forced retreat. But now
Muslim extremists have, in huge numbers, penetrated the gates of every city and
town in Europe and North America without even having to use their swords.

Distressed by the Islamists' trouble-making and killing sprees, civilized nations are
bending over backwards in the hope of placating them and helping them join the
family of humanity by admitting hordes of immigrants and offering them all manner
of hospitality and assistance. All these gestures remain in vain and to no avail. Many
of the new arrivals, deeply infected by the Islamic ethos, find it impossible to
assimilate in the host countries. Instead, they strive to impose their defunct order
which is the cause of their own backwardness and inhumanity on the host nations.

The non-Muslim world is at its wits' end. No accommodation or kindness seems to
stem the tide of Islamist violence. Countless numbers of proposals have been
advanced in dealing with this systemic Islamic disorder. Some feel that, in general,
Muslims are law-abiding citizens of their adopted countries and it is only a minority
that is responsible for the violence and mayhem. Thinking along these lines has
prompted people to say that the solution to Islamic violence rests with Islamic
leaders. That is, Islamic leaders should speak up and condemn jihad and jihadists.

Western armchair theorizers and wishful thinkers need to take time and study the
Islamic system in order to avoid making demands on Muslim leaders-demands that
will never be met because they are completely unrealistic.

Islam presently has its stranglehold over on a billion humans, posing an existential
threat to all non-Muslims. When this billion and a half adhere to the pathological
belief of Islam and use it as their marching orders of life, the rest of humanity
ignores this threat at its peril.

Islam, yet again, has risen from the ashes and is on a campaign of conquest
throughout the world. Hordes of fanatical Islamic foot soldiers are striving to kill and
get killed. What they all want is the opportunity to discharge their homicidal-suicidal
impulses, on their way to Allah's promised glorious paradise. And in the background,
granting the foot soldiers' wishes, are their handlers, the puppeteers, who pull the
strings and detonate these human bombs.

Those who cherish life must recognize these emissaries of death - what makes
them, what motivates them, and how best to defend against them.

America, with a long tradition of protecting religious freedom, still clings to the
"hands off" practice of leaving alone any doctrine or practice billed as religion. A
thorny problem is in deciding what constitutes a religion and who is to make that

There is a glimmer of hope that the American people are finally waking up to the
deceit and the menace of the creed called Islam. Their opposition to the building of
the mosque at Ground Zero showed that the creeping Islamization of America is
indeed something to stand against and prevent before it is too late.

As more and more radical Muslims arrive in America, as they reproduce with great
fecundity, as they convert the disenchanted and minorities, and as petrodollar-flush
Islamist treasuries supply generous funds, they gather more power to undermine a
serious challenge to the American system of governance-representative democracy.

As for democracy, the rule of the people, Muslim fundamentalists have no use for it
at all. The fundamentalists believe that Allah's rule must govern the world in the form
of a Caliphate-a theocracy. Making a mockery of democracy, subverting its
workings, and ignoring its provisions is an Islamist's way of falsifying what he
already believes to be a sinful and false system of governance invented by infidels.

I have been sounding the alarm for decades about the ever-increasing menace
Islam is posing to America and our way of life. Apathy, political correctness, and
massive Islamic lobbying have successfully prevented the public from truly grasping
the all-pervasive assault of political Islam.

Time and again we are told by the politically correct "experts" not to worry about
Islam posing a threat to our way of life. We're also told, not to worry about the
horrific things that are happening on the other side of the world! If Muslims act
heinously toward non-Muslims, it is just the way things are in those countries and it
is hardly any of our business.

This is the same attitude that set the Islamization of Europe on a seemingly
irreversible track. One European country after another is rapidly buckling under the
weight of Islamism.

With heavy assurances like this, coming from so many know-it-all authoritative
figures, we can sleep soundly without the aid of sleeping pills. Yet, the Islam
problem is very real and deadly. Neither the pronouncements of the experts, nor the
tranquilizing pills of the mind can make it go away.

Islam will continue its bloody conquest.

Islam is a belief of blood. It lives and thrives on blood. It can be animal blood, enemy
blood or even its own blood. Unless we see the handwriting on the wall and deal
with them accordingly, before very long, America will have to turn its deed over to
the new Islamist invaders or rebel and fight block by block, city by city. That's when
there will Be Blood.

Russian nuclear-capable bombers 'tested' US air defenses
16 times in last 10 days -

Russian strategic nuclear bombers and other military aircraft entered US air defense
identification zones (ADIZs) at least 16 times over the past ten days, American
defense officials confirmed on Thursday.

"Over the past week, NORAD has visually identified Russian aircraft operating in
and around the US air defense identification zones," said Maj. Beth Smith,
spokeswoman for US Northern Command and the North American Aerospace
Defense Command (NORAD).

Smith sought to downplay the incursions that she called "a spike in activity," telling
the Washington Free Beacon's Bill Gertz that the flights were assessed as routine
training missions and exercises.

But an unnamed defense official familiar with the incursion reports disagreed with
Smith's assessment. "These are not just training missions," the official told Gertz,
saying that Russian strategic nuclear forces appear to be "trying to test our air
defense reactions, or our command and control systems."

NORAD scrambled fighter jets several times when Russian strategic aircraft flew
along US ADIZs. The planes included a mix of Tu-95 Bear H heavy bombers and
Tu-142 Bear F maritime reconnaissance aircraft, as well as one IL-20 intelligence
collection aircraft, Smith said.

The bomber flights took place mainly along the Alaskan air defense identification
zone that covers the Aleutian Islands and the continental part of the state, and one
incursion involved entry into Canada's air defense zone, she added.

"Such aerial bravado has been rare since the fall of the Soviet Union,"
wrote. "Until now."

"And it all appears to be a direct result of the cooling of relations between the West
and Russia over the invasion of Crimea and the shooting-down of MH17," the
Australian News Corp site added.

During the Cold War, Soviet bombers sought to trigger US air defenses as
preparation for a potential nuclear conflict.

The recent spike in activity after a surface-to-air missile brought down the Malaysia
Airlines plane is not the first time Russian military planes were detected in US ADIZs
this summer. On June 9, a pair of Tu-95 Bear H aircraft maintained by Russia came
close to US airspace during practice bombing while four of the planes were
conducting bombing runs near Alaska, a NORAD spokesman told Gertz.

"After tracking the bombers as they flew eastward, two of the four Bears turned
around and headed west toward the Russian Far East," he wrote of the June
incident. "The remaining two nuclear-capable bombers then flew southeast and
around 9:30 P.M. entered the US northern air defense zone off the coast of Northern

Those two aircraft, Gertz added, made it within 50 miles of the coast before turning
around after a US F-15 intercepted them.

Russian aircraft have also made incursions into other countries' airspace this year.
In June, the UK's Royal Air Force scrambled Typhoon fighter jets to intercept four
flights of aircraft in the airspace around the Baltic states. The planes included
advanced Tu-22M Backfire bombers, Su-27 Flanker interceptors, an A-50 Mainstay
radar aircraft and a transport aircraft, wrote. Russian-owned Tu-95
bombers skirted UK airspace and have come close to US property in both Guam
and California, The Aviationist reported in May.

In an April incident in international airspace between Russia and Japan, two
Russian Su-27 Flanker interceptors flew beneath a US Air Force reconnaissance
plane, then "popped up" ahead of the jet, which was forced to take evasive
maneuvers, according to

The United States has been flying spy missions of its own, however. Over the
weekend, US officials confirmed Swedish media reports that an American spy plane
invaded Sweden's airspace in mid-July. The maverick plane was spying on Russia
when it was intercepted, and was evading a Russian fighter jet when it entered
Swedish airspace without permission. Air traffic control had denied the Boeing RC-
135 Rivet Joint entrance, Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) newspaper said. The incident
occurred on July 18, the day after MH17 was shot down.

This week on 'The Hal Lindsey Report' - Hal Lindsey -

"Those three boys... saved the nation."

That's how Isaac Herzog, the leader of the opposition in Israel's Knesset,
remembered the tragic kidnapping and murders of three Israeli teenaged boys a
couple of months ago.

Had they not been kidnapped, hastily murdered and sloppily buried, and their graves
quickly discovered by Israel, unmitigated disaster could even now be lurking in
Israel's future.

You see, Hamas was planning a daring invasion of Israel on Rosh Hoshanna. On
September 24, the eve of the Jewish New Year, they intended to flood southern
Israel with thousands of Hamas fighters. These heavily armed invaders were to
enter Israel through dozens of tunnels under cover of darkness. As day dawned and
shops and schools filled up in the Israeli towns and villages just outside the Gaza
Strip, all hell would break loose.

First, massive explosives already in place under Israeli kindergartens and schools
would be detonated. Amid the mass hysteria and chaos, the Hamas fighters would
strike, killing as many innocent civilians and children as possible.

Then, before the IDF could respond, they would retreat through the tunnels back
into Gaza, taking with them maybe hundreds of hostages that would be held for
ransom and leverage.

When Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the discovery of this
Hamas plan with his cabinet, he noted that the number of Israeli casualties could
well have surpassed the 2,200 who died in the 1973 Yom Kippur war.

Other experts and analysts believe the death toll would have exceeded 10,000

But because those three boys were kidnapped, then hastily murdered once their
kidnappers realized one of them had been able to telephone the police, the Hamas
invasion plan was revealed.

This brutal tragedy sparked "Operation Protective Edge," the IDF entry into Gaza to
stop the rocket barrages and punish Hamas for the murders. That's when Israel
discovered the full extent of the vast network of tunnels that Hamas has been able
to construct beneath Gaza over the last several years.

Israeli television news reports have suggested that there are as many as 5,000
tunnels crisscrossing the Gaza Strip. They enable Hamas forces to move with
impunity almost anywhere they wish. They store their arsenals and house their
command centers there.

The Israelis call it "the city under the city."

The IDF also discovered as many as 40 highly fortified tunnels that open in multiple
places inside Israel. It is through those "terror tunnels" that Hamas intended to
invade Israel in September.

The horrible, brutal deaths of those three young boys, one of them an American,
may truly have saved Israel. Some have suggested that the entire incident, which
allowed the Hamas plan to be discovered, is a miracle.

I can't say that I disagree, simply because Israel's history is nothing more than
miracle upon miracle upon miracle. From its miraculous birth to its miraculous rebirth
to its miraculous survival against all odds, Israel is truly a miracle nation.

On this week's program, I'll discuss that miraculous history as well as one of the
unexplainable "miracles" that have occurred during "Operation Protective Edge."

But a word of warning, Israel is not out of the woods by any means. An even greater
menace than Hamas is lurking just beyond Israel's northern border. So continue to
pray earnestly for God's continued protection of Israel. His people have never been
in more danger than they are at this moment.

Daily Jot: A man who won't look you in the eyes - Bill Wilson -

Television programming was interrupted last night by a news bulletin from the
occupant of the Oval Office. The "president" announced that he was sending
humanitarian aid and selected air strikes to help the people displaced by the Islamic
State of Iraq and the Levant's genocidal march to Baghdad. Interesting that this man
did not once look the camera head on. He addressed the American people, but he
did not look at them. His announcement was full of demagoguery and arrogance, as
if he had nothing to do with creating and managing the crisis he is now having to
address, as he explained, "That's a hallmark of American leadership. That's who we

The situation in Iraq with the onset of the caliphate crusading ISIL, whose leader this
"president's" administration released from prison and assisted in training many of its
chief lieutenants, is grave. While it is not for the United States to be the police force
for the world, it is important that our word is our bond. We made a commitment to
the innocents in Iraq that we would stabilize the nation and protect the citizens from
the actions of the bloodthirsty and the slavers--in essence, from the Islamic religion.
Since the current "president" took office, the US has abandoned them--meaning that
Christians and other minority religions were left on their own to die and be enslaved
by Muslims.

Now the "president" thinks he needs to intervene because "We do whatever is
necessary to protect our people. We support our allies when they're in danger." He
said, "But when the lives of American citizens are at risk, we will take action. That's
my responsibility as Commander-in-Chief. And when many thousands of innocent
civilians are faced with the danger of being wiped out, and we have the capacity to
do something about it, we will take action. That is our responsibility as Americans." I
wonder how the parents of those men who died in Benghazi feel about this
commitment the "president" made without looking the American people in the eyes.

Moreover, this "president" has done more to empower the ruthless barbarism of
Islam more than any in history. By siding with the Muslim Brotherhood and
America's enemies in Israel, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, and other countries, he
has created an atmosphere of death and destruction. This is also a testimony to
Islam--a system that uses religion to violate the lives, freedoms, and human rights of
anyone who disagrees with them. The Bible says in James 1:8, "

A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways." There is no credibility in saying
you protect innocent lives and American citizens as a matter of policy when your
policies are destructive to them. No wonder he won't look us in the eyes.

Daily Devotion: What Do You Know? - Greg Laurie -

Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord
gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
-Job 1:21

Think about the way Job responded to devastating circumstances. Talk about
having your life fall apart! Job lost seven sons and three daughters in one
unimaginable day. And that was in addition to losing all his possessions and his
health. But what did Job do? The Bible says he did not charge God foolishly (see
Job 1:22, KJV). Instead, he cried out to the Lord.

In fairness, Job did go on to question God in the days to come, in effect asking,
"Lord, why?" There's nothing wrong with asking God why, as long as you don't get
the idea that He somehow owes you an answer. Frankly, God doesn't owe you or
me an explanation.

Concerning our recent tragedy I, too, have asked why? Why did this happen? Why
couldn't it have been me instead of Christopher? Why did the Lord take him? I have
many such questions roiling in my heart.

Not long after Christopher's passing, Pastor Chuck Smith made this statement to
me: "Never trade what you don't know for what you do know." Those words stopped
me in my tracks a little. I asked myself, Well, what do I know for sure?

I know that God loves me.
I know that God loved and loves my son.
I know that God loves my family that remains with me.
I know that Christopher is well and alive in the best place he could ever be. I know
that God can make good things come out of bad.
I know that we'll all be together again-not so very long from now-on the Other Side.
I know those things. I'm as sure as I can be. So I'm making the choice to stand on
what I know instead of what I don't know.

So if you were to ask me, "Greg, why did this happen?" my answer would be, "I don't
know. And I don't know that I will ever know. I just know that I need God more than I
have ever needed Him in my life."

Featured Article: The Fourth Apostasy - Pete Garcia -

''Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith,
giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy,
having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and
commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with
thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.'' (1 Timothy 4:1-4 NKJV)

After having been released by the Medo-Persian King Cyrus, the Jews under
Joshua and Zerrubabel began returning to Jerusalem around 538-37 BC. By the
time Jesus was born in Bethlehem, some 500 years later, the rebuilt Jewish temple
and the whole city had been fully operational for centuries. Aside from a three year
period in which Antiochus Epiphanes terrorized Jerusalem, each successive Gentile
Empire (Persian, Greek, Roman) allowed the Jews to keep their temple and their
worship intact. Fair to say, their religion was firmly entrenched by the time Christ

So why wasn't their crowds thronging the manger where Christ was born? Why
didn't Herod's priests break out into joyous exaltation at the news by the wise men
when seeking the One 'born king of the Jews'? Why wasn't Jesus followed by the
leading Rabbis from his early childhood onward? Why was Jesus unknown outside
of Galilee and Nazareth?

John the Baptist seemingly recognized Him as He approached him to be baptized,
even calling Him the "Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." So why
did he later ask when imprisoned, "are you really the Christ, or should we wait for

Jesus performed miracles, but then told those not to call Him the Messiah. When
He had huge crowds, He gave some of His harshest messages, often laden with
parables, which could not be understood by the masses. When He was around His
disciples, He allowed them to recognize Him as the "Son of the living God", but He
shunned all the Messiah worship from the crowds. The only day in which He
publicly allowed them to openly worship Him as the Messiah, was on Palm Sunday,
which should have been the one day they recognized Him for who He really was.

It was exactly 173,880 days (or 483 years) from the day King Artaxerxes gave the
commandment to Nehemiah to go and rebuild the city and the walls of
Jerusalem. This meant that only Jesus could be the One who could fulfill the role of
a Promised King. And knowing what lie ahead, instead of rejoicing over Jerusalem,
He wept.

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, "If you had known,
even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now
they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies
will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,
and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in
you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."
Luke 19:41-44

In less than a week, Jesus would be betrayed, arrested, falsely accused, beaten,
spat upon, whipped bloody, mocked, tortured, and crucified between two
thieves. The Jews demanded it, the Romans accommodated it, the guards relished
in it, and the sky darkened and the ground shook upon the greatest travesty the
world had ever known.

The all-powerful God who created man out of dust, and spoke the universe into
existence by His sheer will, humbled Himself and allowed His creation to brutalize
Him to an agonizing death on a cross made of wood, from the very trees He created
out of nothing. His disciples were scattered, His family and friends demoralized, and
His enemies rejoiced.

Yet, on the third day, He rose again, conquering death and hell in the process, and
forever freeing sinful man from the perfect demands, of a perfect Law, he could
never possibly keep. He died for the sins of mankind, and traded His own perfect
righteousness, for our shameful sinfulness.

Some call it the most lopsided, and unfair deal in all of human history. Yet, He did it
willingly, so that any man or woman who wanted, could also obtain the
righteousness of God by heeding the drawing of the Holy Spirit and placing their
faith and trust into Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection. That same Holy Spirit
who drew, then also eternally sealed the believer until the Day of
Redemption...guaranteeing Salvation despite our continual unfaithfulness.

In the Old Testament, God had entered into a covenant with the Israelites, at Mt.
Sinai, (1500-1400BC) in which they would be His people, and He would be their
God, as long as they kept their end of the bargain up. [Exodus 19:1-7] But our
Scripture records, three distinct periods, in which Israel's apostate behavior reached
a culmination point:

*By Hosea's day (755-710BC), the Northern Kingdom (Israel) had fallen into deep
apostasy, and God allowed their enemy (the Assyrians) to conquer and carry them
off into a lost history. See also 2 Kings 17:21-23
*By Jeremiah's day (627-570BC), the Southern Kingdom (Judah) had also fallen into
apostasy, and God allowed their enemy, the Babylonians, to carry them off into 70
years of enslavement.
*By AD33, the Jews had committed the greatest apostasy, by murdering their own
Messiah, and God allowed the Romans to be His instrument of their destruction. In
70AD, they killed more than a million Jews, destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple,
and sending the Jews into 2,000 years of diaspora.

The Fourth Apostasy

Hinting by way of question as to the length of time between the first coming and the
second, Jesus asked the question '...Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will
He really find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8) He already knew the answer to the
question, but was conveying that Christianity's ebb and flow would have to happen,
until a point was reached, in which this body too, seemed to be at a culminating
point. It would seem as if Christ would never return...and many would turn away
from the true faith and follow after whatever the world was selling.

The slide into apostasy was a gradual, yet consistent one. An element of the
apostate has always been present since the beginning, but in the latter times, it
would pick up momentum. Where true, Biblical Christianity once stood, is now being
increasingly replaced by catchy slogans and marketing campaigns designed to
increase attendance and generate an obscene cash flow. Where doctrinal truths are
set aside to accommodate the masses.

Instead of portraying the Gospel that saves, they present a highly commercialized,
highly filtered, and utterly lukewarm (as not to offend) 'gospel' that teaches: all love
and no judgment, all blessing and no repentance and turns the focus to self, instead
of being on Christ, ignores or perverts the prophetic Scripture, and teaches the
"kingdom is now".

The Apostle Paul speaks to this in various places (2 Tim 3:1-9; Gal. 1:8-9; 1 Tim
4:1) as does Peter (2 Peter 2:1-22, 3:17), Jude (1-25), the writer of Hebrews (6:4-6),
and also Jesus Himself (Rev. 3:14-22).

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling
away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition 2 Thess 2:3

The last and final falling away, (apostasia) is a de-Christianizing of Christianity. It
removes the exclusivity of salvation through Christ alone, and injects salvation by
works and/or promotes a Universalist salvation, in which all paths lead to God.

Although a complete falling away cannot occur this side of the Rapture (see
Matthew 16:18-19), we can see modern Christendom trending heavily that way
now. The push is to unite all of Christianity together under the banner of
ecumenicalism...led by the "original" universal church in Rome under the Pope. The
Charismatics, Prosperity preachers, and Emergent church devotee's seem already
onboard with this. Their goal is to stifle dissent as being divisive. And although it's
not an overwhelming problem at the moment, it is growing.

The Bible records that Christendom in the world does not progressively get better,
but gets worse. The last church age is not one of global conquest for Christ, but an
abhorrent Laodicean church who is lukewarm and repulsive to Christ so much so,
that He vomits them from His mouth. Although true Christianity cannot be
completely overcome this side of the Rapture, we see that once the Rapture does
occur, what remains of Christendom will quickly slide into that final, global religion
headed by the False Prophet and the Antichrist.

Despite all the craziness going on in the world, why should this matter to us
today? Because I believe in the coming months and possibly years, the true
Church, or what remains of it, will be put under immense political, economic,
religious, and societal pressure to conform, to embrace religious multiculturalism
and ecumenicalism.

Many pastors and denominations are even now laying down as to avoid the intense
criticism and pressure the media, social networks, and activist have already brought
to bear on them. Major denominations are already refusing to come out and take a
strong stance against homosexual clergy and marriages within their own
ranks. True, there will be pockets of 'spiritual' resistance who refuse to conform to
this new, evolved Christianity-'lite', but these are considered well outside of the
mainstream conversation, and are ignored, and relegated as Westboro Baptist-

What remains of the true Church, should the Lord tarry, will have to consist of an
underground network of home churches as currently exists in places like China and
the Middle East.

Currently, religious freedom in the United States is largely becoming a faade, which
only applies to everyone...except for the born-again Christian. And the whole world
will line up behind the famous, the subject matter experts, the media mouthpieces,
the polls, and the academic types who say that Christianity needs to evolve in order
to stay relevant. (Apparently, this standard does not apply to Islam) But these
famous people, these enlightened leaders will continue to point the blame at the true
Christian, and state were it not for these hateful bigots who still cling to their 'guns
and their bibles', the world would be a better place.

But what does Christ have to say?

"I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut
it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My
name...Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from
the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on
the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may
take your crown. Revelation 3:8-10
