IN THE COMMUNITY
August 15
IAVA Night - The Nationals will honor local military veterans as part
of the annual Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) Night,
presented by Miller High Life. Miller will host more than 200 veterans
and their families to a pregame BBQ where several Nationals players will
be on hand for photos and autographs. Select veterans will participate
in pregame ceremonies. Nationals players and coaches will also wear
the team’s patriotic uniforms featuring the Stars and Stripes Curly “W.”

DATE IN DC BASEBALL HISTORY
August 12 (3-5 all-time on this date)
2007 - Ryan Church and Jesus Flores hit game-tying home runs in the 8th
and 9th innings, respectively, and Robert Fick tripled and subsequently
scored the decisive run on Felipe Lopez’s sac fly as Washington surged
past ARI, 7-6. The win averted what would have been a 7-game season
series sweep at the hands of the Diamondbacks. Washington trailed,
5-0, after 3 innings and won by scoring 6 of the game’s final 7 runs.
