It took him 2 seconds to turn it off. He got up out of bed and walked to take a shower. At 7:05 am, Justin was sitting at his kitchen table eating breakfast. At 7:20 am he got in his car and headed off to school. Seven hours later, at 2, he went home and started on his homework. Four hours later, at 6, he had dinner with his family. Then he finished some homework and went to bed. That's when his day got really confusing. At around 12:04 am he was woken by a loud clapping noise in the middle of his room. He quickly sat up in his bed and looked around for the source of the noise. He looked on the ground and found a boy that looked alot like him. He had the same hair style; long, dark brown hair that wouldn't style in any way but just lied down. He looked almost identical to Justin even the freckles. The only difference seemed to be that he looked a little older. He was covered in blood and on his knees. He looked up and Justin realized he was looking at his own face. Justin gasped. "87 A.D," his voice matching Justin's identically. He sounded tired, weak, and out of breath. "Top of the Roman Colosseum. Hurry." He raised both shaking hands and with effort, clapped them together. The clapping sound returned and he vanished. About that time was when Justin passed out. Chapter 1 Justin Time woke up at 6:55 am. He slept through is alarm and was now running late. He grabbed a piece of toast from the kitchen and ran out the door. He started his car and backed out of the driveway at twenty-five minutes past seven. He realized he only had 5 minutes to beat the traffic and get to class on time. He threw the car into reverse and backed out of the driveway, running over some of the newly planted bushes his mom just planted and almost hitting his mailbox. He finally made it out of his driveway, shifted into drive and started driving to school. It didn't take him long until he had to bring his car to a stop. "Stupid traffic," Justin said, pushing his hair back. His hair never did what he wanted it to, no amount of gel could tame his mess of hair. It never seemed to do as he wanted so has he pushed it back it fell back over his eyes again. He sat in his car waiting for the light several cars ahead to change to green. It was then that he remembered the dream he had last night. To him, it didn't seem like a dream. It felt too real. Hearing his voice, it sounded too real, too life like. 87 A.D. what
did that mean? His thoughts were interrupted by the driver's horn behind him. He looked up and noticed the light was green. He pressed on the gas and accelerated his car. He didn't think about the night before again. He was more concerned about being late to math again. Last time he was late his teacher made him stay after school three minutes later for every minute he was late. He was 20 minutes late. He wasn't planning on trying that again. He swerved his car into the first open parking lot he saw and turned off the engine. He checked his watch, he had two minutes to get to class. He was walking through the parking lot when he saw his friend, Chris, walking up to the school. "Hey Chris," Justin yelled out, waving to try to get his attention. Chris looked up, and waved back, as Justin walked over to him. "Whats up Justin?" Chris asked, taking out his headphones. "Nothing, just trying to get to class on time." "Same here man," Chris replied, walking faster to keep up with Justin's increased walking speed. "There are not enough hours in the day." "Tell me about it," Justin said walking up the stairs. "You know, I wish there was a way to control time," Chris said as Justin took the stairs three at a time. "Wouldn't that be the greatest?" "Yeah," Justin said, his pace slowing a bit. He then picked it up again and walked faster down the hallway. "But, that's impossible, there's no way to control time." "Yeah, I guess your right." Chris replied as he walked into his class. "Catch you later." Justin's class was right next to his so he opened the door and walked in. He got to his desk right as the clock on the wall changed to 7:30. "Just In Time," someone behind him said. The rest of the class started snickering. Just in time has become his nickname through out the school year because of the number of times he had been in his desk right as the class started. No one knew how he did it, but he always seemed to be in his desk right as the clock changed, never a few seconds before or after. The nickname was started by a cleaver bully and it stuck from then on out. Even some of the teachers starting calling him that. Justin didn't mind it in the slightest. He never had a nickname and liked how it seemed to fit so perfectly so he accepted it. "Yes," his teacher said. She was a middle aged woman with a black sweater and a short fuse. No one wanted to cross her, everyone knew she was one of the meanest strictest teachers in the school. She sent a student to detention for sneezing too many times. She wakes up on the wrong side of the bed on a good day. No one enjoys her classes either. They're always too long, never exciting, and she always just makes them take notes for hours on end. If Chris could control time, he'd use it to skip her class everyday. "Just in time indeed. Now if you wouldn't mind, lets get on to math." The next hour and a half of Justin's short lived life was devoted
to his teacher lecturing them on math formulas, equations, and problems. She didn't stop for anything. No breaks, no questions, no nothing. She just moved through the book like a machine, drilling the information in their heads. Almost two hours and a huge headache later, the class was let out. She went over again because she never stopped teaching long enough to look at the clock and know when it was time for class to be let out. The second she stopped teaching and said she was done, everyone bolted up, grabbed their stuff and ran out of the class. Justin walked over to his history class and found his seat. History was one of the few classes he liked. He enjoyed it because it came easy to him. He could just sit back and relax while his teacher taught him random dates, important people, and events that wont affect him now. In his opinion, the past is past and it wont be coming back. Chapter 2 The street was dark and empty. The only noise was the sound of an old pop can as it rattled across the empty street as the wind blew it. The fog was so thick that you couldn't see more then a few feet in front of you. The only light was a small lamp post that was flickering so bad that no light at all would be better. Suddenly there was a loud snapping sound and a man appearing in the middle of the street. He was wearing dark pants and a long brown sleeveless trench coat. He had a large wide brimmed hat that covered most of his face and kept his long dark hair from flying around too much. On both of his arms he must have had a dozen wrist watches traveling up his arms. His long coat blew in the wind as he stood there, staring through the fog at nothing. Suddenly there was another snap and another man appeared. He was dressed in a single piece outfit that made his entire body look like an hourglass. He looked around and noticed the man with all the watches. "Clockwork," the man said. The man called Clockwork didn't reply. He stood his ground, rubbing the tip of his thumb and middle finger together. "People like you don't deserve to live," Clockwork finally said. "People that distort the timeline deserve to die." He finished coldly. "Well, I don't think that way," the hourglass man replied. "So what now?" He finished by snapping out a large blade. He was raising both of his hands to clap them together. A second before he could, Clockwork spun his arm and snapped his fingers directly in front of the hourglass man. The next thing that happened was that he was on the ground, bleeding. He was still holding the knife but there was his own blood on it. He looked up and noticed Clockwork was standing in the same spot he was at before. "So," he said weakly. "You've figured out time stop. Not bad, not
bad at all." He said coughing up blood in between sentences. Clockwork just stared at him, his coat blowing in the wind. It was impossible to tell his expression from under his hat. He just stood there, staring at him. "Where is she?" he finally asked, breaking the silence. "Who?" the man on the ground asked innocently. "Oh, you mean your sister?" When the man didn't reply he went on. "Ah yes, so thats why you're here." He said, trying to keep him distracted long enough to bring his hands up to clap them together. "Yes, I remember someone talking about sending her to the future." His hands getting closer together, he couldn't tell if he could see them because he couldn't see his eyes but he had to try. "Or it might have been the past, I can never remember which, you know my memory." He said his hands a foot apart. He started closing the gap in between. There was another snapping noise followed by a loud scream of pain. The hourglass man looked down and saw both of his hands were gone. They were a few feet away from his body, still holding on to the knife. It was covered in more of his blood. "Please," the man begged. "Go back, fix me." He said breathing heavy. "Where is she?" Clockwork demanded. "I swear, I don't know." "Who does?" "I don't know that either. I'm just a nobody. No one tells me anything." "Well, thats too bad," Clockwork said, turning and walking away. "Wait, but you said you'd help me," the man called after him. "No, I didn't. What I said was that people like you don't deserve to live." He said clapping both of his hands together and disappeared leaving the man stranded one day before the present. -
Justin walked out of the school and headed to his car. It was a long day and he was just glad it was over. He hated school and thought it was pretty pointless. When was he ever going to need to know this stuff at a moments notice. Especially history. How was a whole bunch of dead guys and past events going to help him in life right now. He shook his head and pulled out his keys. With a quick wrist turn he unlocked his car and pulled the door open. He sat down and pushed his key in the ignition and with another wrist turn, started the car. He backed out of his parking spot and started heading out of the school. He was quickly stopped as he ran into the line of cars trying to get out of the school. He sat back and waited for the line to shorten and for his car to reach the exit. He turned on the radio and waved at one of his friends. It didn't take long for the him to reach the end of the line. He pushed on
the gas and turned out of the parking lot. He drove for a few minutes until he reached his house. He pulled up to the drive way and turned off the car. He walked up to the front of his door and he noticed there was a note attached to it. He walked up and looked at it, thinking it was just an advertisement for some company. Upon closer inspection, he noticed it was a sloppily hand written note. What he thought was odd was that it was his handwriting. He never wrote it. It just said three words. "Rome, 87, Hurry" He gasped and took a step back as he read it. It wasn't dream. Now he was really confused. He had no idea what was going on. He quickly took the sign off the door and hurried inside. Neither of his parents would be home right now so neither one of them would have seen it. His mom would be at work now and his dad didn't live there anymore. Justin's parents got a divorce a few years back and his dad moved out. Justin doesn't see him much anymore. He grabbed the note and read it and reread it again and again, as if he hoped that he would notice something he didn't before or that it would just disappear. It didn't. It remained the same. Rome. 87. Hurry. He threw away the note and rubbed his eyes. "No, this isn't happening." Justin said out loud. He then started on his homework. He got through some of it until he got bored. He decided to try something out he hadn't done in a long time. He walked around his house and noticed no one was home. He walked in the kitchen and picked up an apple. He threw it in the air and caught it. He then threw it in the air and snapped his fingers on his other hand. The apple fell slower then it had before. It fell into his hand in half the time it had before. He nodded and smiled to himself. For the past few years he had the ability to slow down objects and time. When he first started out he could only make things go a little slower then normal time and only small objects. But now he could cause an entire block to slow down to half speed without affecting him. He smiled at the fact that he knew how to control time, even if it's only a small part of it. The real concern was that he had no idea how to go back in time, so he couldn't go back to 87A.D. if he wanted to. He shrugged and when back to slowing down objects. Chapter 3 Justin woke up again to the buzzing of his alarm clock, he got up and ready for school. A half hour later he got in his car and started driving to school. He got there a few minutes early and started walking down the halls. Suddenly a girl walked up to him. It wasn't someone he has seen before and she was holding a class list and was looking around frantically, so he guessed she was new to the school. "Excuse me," she said. "Can you help me find English 101 with
Thomas? I'm a little lost." "Sure," Justin replied. "Follow me I'll take you there." He started walking to the class she needed to go to. "So where did you move here from?" Justin asked trying to make small talk. "Colorado." "I hear its nice there," Justin said turning around to talk to her. Thats when he made a big mistake. Because he wasn't watching where he was going, he backed in to the meanest, toughest bully in school. He was a lot older then anyone else there because he was held back a few years but more importantly, Justin quickly noticed, was he was a lot bigger then everyone else. He was hoping for the "Watch where you're going" but he had no such luck. It just so happened that he was holding a large hot cup of coffee and Justin walking into him caused him to spill it all over him. He screamed and turned to face Justin. "Sorry man, it was an accident," he said quickly before it got worse then it had to. "Its too late for sorry," he said throwing his fist back and knocking Justin in the gut. He flew back a few feet and landed on his back. He slowly got up and saw his attacker come back for more. He quickly jumped out of the way and tried to get as far away from him as possible. Unfortunately he couldn't, a group of the bully's friends had made a circle around the fight and more and more students were surrounding to watch Justin get killed. Justin reached the wall of students and they pushed him back into the fight. He turned back right as he was about to get punched again. He quickly spun around and dodged the attack. "This guy is too fast, if there was only some way to slow him down," he thought to himself. Then it hit him, he couldn't help but release a small smile at the thought. He turned back. He ducked under another punch and in the process snapped his fingers. The world started to spin a little, then it righted itself. The chants of "Fight, Fight, Fight" suddenly got alot slower and the bully's movements were alot slower then they were before. But, luckily for him, Justin's movements remained the same. He quickly got as far away from the bully as possible. The bully then ran towards him, fist raised, ready to strike. At the last minute, and with lightning quick movements, Justin sidestepped the attack sticking out his foot at the same time. He spun around him and elbowed him right in the back. The bully tripped over Justin's outstretched foot and got knocked down. There was a collective gasp from the crowd and the chanting ended. The fight just got interesting. The bully got back up, and faced Justin. "Lucky move," he said, his words seemed slow and dragged out to Justin. "Too bad it won't happen again." He said running at Justin again. With a blur of motion, Justin ran at full speed at him. He jumped to the right side and then over to the left at the last moment. It threw the bully off and he looked over. When Justin was right behind the
bully, he jumped up, stuck one of his legs out and rotated his entire body. He roundhouse kicked the bully right in the back and he went to the floor. The crowd gasped again and Justin heard the new girl cheer. The bully got up and Justin noticed a hint of fear in his eyes. There was sweat dripping down his face and he was getting madder. He was getting taken out by a small kid like Justin in front of his friends and the entire school. "Alright, I was just going easy on you before." He said. "Now, I'm not holding back." He finished by running at Justin. Luckily for him, the bully was in slow motion so he had plenty of time. He waited until the right moment and ran at him at full speed. He wondered how it must have looked to everyone else cause he must have been moving so mush faster. He heard a gasp from the crowd as he ran at the bully. Just as he was raising his knee to take another step, Justin jumped up and pushed off the bully's knee. He used his momentum and flew over the bully in a midair front flip. He landed with his back to the bully's back. He swung his arm out and using a spinning momentum, he connected right with his back. It pushed the bully forward a step, then he fell to the ground. Justin just stood there, staring at him, almost daring him to get up. The crowd was silent for a moment, some not believing what they just saw. Then slowly, they started clapping and cheering. Justin looked around and noticed half the school was cheering for him. He raised his hands and waved at the crowd, snapping his fingers to return the flow of time back to normal at the same time. He looked through the crowd and noticed a lot of the faces of his classmates and noticed they all looked scared or surprised. "That will teach them not to mess with me," Justin said, smiling a bit to himself. As he scanned the crowd he noticed someone he hadn't seen before. He was older so he guessed he was someone's dad or something. He has a wide brimmed hat on and large jacket. Justin didn't know why but the man was smiling and looking at him weird. He went back up to the new girl and pulled her out of the crowd. "Sorry for that distraction. Math with Thomas, you said?" Justin asked her. She didn't reply but nodded. She looked a little surprised at what just happened. "Great way to start off your first day of school," he said as they started walking to her class. The crowd parted and people moved out of their way as they walked past. "Don't worry, that doesn't happen often and as long as you're my friend, I'll make sure it doesn't happen to you." "Thank you," she said. Then her eyes got wide with shock. Justin followed her gaze and he groaned. Coming down the hallway, was the principal of the school and the schools security guard. "Oh my gosh, it's only my first day. I can't get in trouble," the girl said, freaking out. "Just relax, Thomas' class is right over there. I'll take care of these guys," he said, pointing at a class down the hall. She nodded and started walking to her class. The principal turned to stop her but Justin
walked in between them. "Something wrong?" He asked. "I think we need to have a talk," the principal said. "My office, now!" Chapter 4 "Fighting on school campus is strictly forbidden," the principal said from behind his desk. The question was directed at Justin who was sitting across from him. He was now in the principal's office. It was a small room with filing cabinets, a desk, celling fan and two chairs facing the desk. Justin was in one chair and occupying the other chair was the bully that Justin had beaten up, he had an ice back to his head and a bloody nose. "I'm sorry, but it wasn't my fault. He started it and I was only defending myself," Justin replied. "Save it," the principal said. "Who started it, who ended it, why you did it. None of those things matter. All that matters is that there was a fight. Now, you leave me no choice but to suspend you for ten days." "What?!?" Justin said, jumping out of his chair. "Sit down Justin," the principal said, Justin slowly settled back in his seat. "Now I've called both of your parents and they should be in shortly." At that persice moment, there was a clap behind the door then a knock at the door. "Ah, perfect timing. Come in." the principal said at the door. The door opened and the man from the crowd walked in. He was tall and dressed in a large brown trench coat with no sleeves. He was alot older then Justin, he must have been 25 or older. Justin noticed he must have had a dozen watches on his arms and they all had different times on them. "Excuse me. Were in the middddddllllleee offf sooomeeetthhinnn-" the principal said, his words getting slower and slower until they stopped all together. Justin looked around the room and the principal and the bully had both stopped moving. In fact the ceiling fan seemed to stop in mid swing. The only two people moving were the man and Justin. "Who are you?" Justin asked. The man didn't say anything for a minute. He just looked at Justin. "I'm like you," he finally replied. He then turned and pointed outside. He started walking and expected Justin to follow. Justin got up from his chair and followed. He found the man outside the office in the hallway. Justin noticed everyone in the hall had stopped moving. Students stopped walking in mid step, lockers half closed, conversations stopped in mid sentence. Even a book someone dropped was suspended in mid air, floating just a foot above the ground. Justin went over to it and tried to move it. It surprised him that he could pick it up and hold it.
"Don't touch anything," the man said. Justin quickly dropped the book and it hit the floor with a loud crash, it bounced back up a few inches but didn't go back down. It remained a few inches above the ground. "What did you do?" Justin asked his voice echoing down the hallway. It was absolutely silent without anyone moving. "I'd have guessed you already know the answer to that question," the man replied. "We've been watching you for some time. We would like you to join us." "Join who?" "I'll explain later, will you come with me?" the man asked holding out his hand. Justin looked around at the school then back at the mans hand. "Unless you'd rather stay here," the man replied. "I could put you back right before your parents got here and you got in serious trouble." "Well, I wouldn't want that," Justin said, grabbing the mans forearm. He raised his other hand and snapped the fingers on his hand. Justin felt himself being pulled into the space where the fingers were snapped at a very high acceleration. The next moment he was gone. The moment they left, time returned to normal. The lockers closed, the book fell, and the ceiling fan in the principals office started working again. "Something," the principal finished. He then looked around the room, confused. "What was I saying? Wasn't there someone else in this room?" But by that time, Justin was long gone. Chapter 5 Justin felt himself falling to the earth. He landed on his feet, swayed for a minute, then fell over clutching his head. He felt like he was going to be sick. All he wanted right now was for the world to stop spinning. "First one's always the worst," the man said. Justin looked around the room. It was a small room. With a couch, refrigerator, some computers, and chairs. The room had no windows or doors. It looked more like an underground bunker then someone's living room. The man walked over to the refrigerator and opened it. He grabbed two water bottles and looked over at Justin, raising one of them. Justin shook his head, still on his hands and knees waiting for his head to clear. The man shrugged and walked over and sat in one of the chairs. He rolled the other water bottle in his hand at Justin. "You should really drink something," he said. Justin didn't answer, he just picked up the water bottle and started drinking. Afterwards he felt his head clear up enough for him to stand. "Who are you? What's going on? Why am I here? You promised me some answers," Justin said, looking over at the man on the couch. He took a long swig of water before answering. "Your right, we should start with introductions. My name is
Clockwork. I'm like you. I'm one of the fortunate people in this world that can control time." "You can do it too?" Justin asked. The man nodded. "Can you teach me how to go back in time?" "You haven't figured that out yet?" Justin shook his head. "Well, depending on how much a person disrupts the flow of time, the stronger they get. It could take you a while to get to that point. But you'll get it. What can you do?" Clockwork asked. "Just this," Justin said throwing the water bottle up in the air. He snapped his fingers and it slowed down. He snapped them again and it fell to the floor in normal time. "That's good, thats where i started too," Clockwork said. "Try doing the same thing except clapping your hands instead of snapping your fingers. "Ok," Justin said. He threw the water bottle up and clapped his hands together. The water bottle flickered for a moment then fell to the earth. "Try thinking of a time, like 12:02AM." Clockwork said looking at one of his many watches. "That's in one minute," Justin replied. "I know, just try it," Justin threw up the water bottle and concentrated on 12:02 as he clapped his hands together. THe water bottle flickered and vanished. Justin watched the clock's second hand move around the dial. He waited for 12:02. The second the second hand hit the top of the clock, the water bottle reappeared. It landed right in front of Justin with a loud crashing noise. Justin looked at it in surprise. "How did I do that?" He asked. "We are born with the unique gift, we can distort the flow of time and change it for our needs. But to distort time we need to rip a hole in the timeline. To do that we either need to clap our hands or snap fingers to rip the hole in the timeline. Some things, like slowing down time or traveling a few seconds in time, you'll only need the snap of your fingers to distort the flow. But other times, such as time stop or traveling years in the future, you'll need to clap your hands to rip a hold in the timeline. You might need to clap your hands for things like short time jumps for a while." "Wow, there is so much I don't know. I mean I thought I was just going crazy but now," he said, pausing for a bit and looking around the room. "All this, all of what you just said." Justin looked around the room and noticed there were a lot more chairs then people. "There are too many chairs," he said finally. "Who else is here?" "Smart kid this one," came a voice from somewhere in the room. There was a snap and suddenly a girl appeared standing next to one of the chairs. She was tall, an inch or so shorter then Justin. She had short shoulder length red hair. She was just wearing a white tee shirt and
jeans. She looked to be the same age as Justin or a little younger. She, Justin noticed immediately, very pretty. "How did you do that?" Justin said. "This is Milli. She possesses the ability to go in to a hyper speed through time. Meaning she is moving so fast that she appears invisible and she is able to speed herself up to incredible speeds. I can't seem to figure out how to do it" "Hey," she said, waving to Justin. "Maybe I could try teaching him, he might do better then you." She said to Clockwork. "He may," Clockwork said, thinking. "It would be a good skill to learn." "So is this the group you wanted me to join?" Justin asked. "Yes. We make up a secret society known as the Disciples of the Dial." Clockwork replied with pride. "So, what is your name?" Milli asked. "We need to get you a cool nickname, like the rest of us." "My name is Justin," Justin replied. "Justin Time." "Just In Time?" Clockwork and Milli said at the same time, laughing a little. "Is that your real name?" Milli said laughing a bit more. "Yeah," Justin replied. "That perfect," Clockwork said, standing up and clasping a hand on his shoulder, laughing a bit more. "You don't need a nickname if your name is Just In Time." "Yeah I guess," Justin said laughing at it too. Just then there the sound of a clap and another boy appeared. He was short, looked to be the same age as Milli. He had short brown hair that fell down past his ears. He was also wearing glasses and holding up a newspaper at them. "Have you guys see this?" He asked, holding it up. It was todays paper, it had a picture of a dead body on the front cover. The victim was badly beaten up and his hands were cut off. The headline at the top said "Killer still a Mystery." Justin shook his head, Milli took the paper and read a bit of it then shook her head. Clockwork took one look at it. "Nope," he said. "Whats it all about?" He said looking away. Milli gave him an accusing look for a minute then looked back at the newspaper. "One of the Era of Error got killed yesterday," he replied. He looked over at Justin as if it was the first time he's seen him. "I'm Nano bytheway." "So what does this mean?" Justin asked him. "It means the Era will be wanting revenge," Clockwork said, rising. "They'll want blood. Dial blood." Milli walked up and grabbed the newspaper. She scanned it for a few seconds. "Found it." She said, throwing the paper on the table and
pointing at a paragraph. Clockwork picked it up and read it aloud. "Police reports indicated that the brutal manner in which the victim died hadn't been seen since the early 2100's. Clockwork said. "It was reported that only 23 cases of a murder like this were reported." "2123?" Milli asked. "Yeah, thats our year." Clockwork replied. "Wait, how do we know this isn't just a typo?" Justin asked. "Cause we've done this before," Clockwork answered. "Now lets go." He said clapping his hands. Nano quickly followed. "Grab my shoulder." Milli said. Justin put a hand on her shoulder and she clapped her hands. He felt himself being pulled into the area where her hands connected. A split second later, he was gone. Chapter 6 Justin felt himself being thrown to the ground at an alarming rate. He quickly recovered his balance and got up. Clockwork, Milli and Nano were all standing, staring straight ahead. Justin followed their gaze and noticed a city in ashes. "They're here," Clockwork said. "Lets go." He finished by running towards the city. The rest of them quickly followed. When they got near the city, Justin saw a group of men throwing what looked like Molotov cocktail or grenades into buildings. They would then catch on fire and add to the tally of already burning homes and buildings. Clockwork was the fastest and he ran straight at one of the men. He was incredibly fast, Justin could barley follow his movements. He pulled something that looked like a metal cylinder from his back. He struck it against a wall and out of both ends, sharp stakes shot out. Clockwork ran at full speed up to one of the people and stabbed the stake into the ground by his feet. Using the momentum of his speed, he twisted his body around the pole and, completely airborne, kicked the man with both feet. He flew against a building that he had just thrown a Molotov cocktail at. The building exploded and rubble and ashes quickly covered the man. Another man ran at Clockwork from behind, both hands holding long curved knifes. Clockwork didn't even move, he just stood there. At the last second, he kicked his pole from the ground and caught it. He swung it around and swept the legs of man behind him. As the man was falling, Clockwork stuck the pole under the falling man and swung it over his head. The man was catapulted over him and went sailing, hitting a wall head first. He crumpled to the ground and didn't get up. Justin looked over at Milli as if to say something, but she had raised her hand. She snapped her thumb and ring finger together, she then slid her thumb to the middle finger and snapped it again. She turned into a blur as she ran straight into the fight. With in milliseconds, she had completely vanished and several men had been knocked to the ground. Justin looked over and noticed Nano was in a
hand to hand battle with a man to his left. Justin turned back and noticed a man running at him. He had a single curved blade. Justin quickly snapped his fingers and the man's movements slowed considerably. Justin twisted the knife arm and broke his arm. The man grabbed his arm in pain and dropped the knife. Justin didn't waste anytime. He spun around and kicked the man square in the gut. The momentum from his spin and the fact that he was moving faster then the man slowed down my time, increased the power of the kick and sent him spinning several yards away. "Thank goodness for those karate lessons," Justin said to himself. He turned and ran into the brawl. He saw Clockwork spinning his pole and taking out anyone getting close. Nano had grabbed two knifes and was fighting hand to hand with a group of people surrounding him. Milli was no where to be seen but her damage could be seen everywhere. With in a matter of minutes, the only people moving were Clockwork, Nano, Milli and Justin. "Well, that wasn't so bad," Milli said. Just then, the building behind her exploded. "Looks like you spoke too soon," Clockwork said, when the noise died down. Just then there was a loud snapping noise coming from behind them. They all turned and looked to see a huge chunk of the wall of the building behind them fall off the wall and plummet to the ground right below them. The giant rock headed straight for Milli. "Milli," Justin screamed. "Look out." She turned back and saw the rock. She couldn't move fast enough or get out of the way fast enough to dodge it. Justin reacted quickly. He ran at her and at the same time snapped his fingers twice just like he saw Milli do a few minutes earlier. He felt time slow down and felt himself speed up. He kept running and at the last minute, dove out at Milli. They collided and flew several feet. Justin winced at the pain that must have caused her. He guessed, it must have felt like she ran into a train, but he reasoned it was a lot better then actually getting hit by a train. A split second later the broken wall crashed down right at the spot Milli was standing moments ago. They landed and slid for a moment before coming to a stop. "Are you ok?" Justin asked once they stopped. Milli groaned and sat up. "Yeah I'll be fine," She said wrapping an arm around her ribs. "Are you hurt?" Justin asked watching the pain on her face. "I'll live," she replied. She then glanced up at the wall. Justin followed her glance and saw a man standing there, staring over them. "Who is that?" Justin asked. "Shadow," Clockwork said, more to himself than an answer to Justin's question. Then without warning, he starting sprinting towards the wall. He then clapped his hands and disappeared. He reappeared right in front of the man. Using his momentum he gained from running,
he threw himself at the man. At the last second, the man snapped his fingers and vanished. Chapter 7 "Not bad for your first time, kid." Clockwork finally said. They were back in the underground base and Clockwork hasn't said a thing since the encounter with the mysterious Shadow. After he had missed him by mere milliseconds they had all time travelled back to the base. Nano took a look at Milli and established that she had broken a few ribs. Justin tried to apologize but it was waved off. Nano has simply snapped his fingers and gone forward in time to where the ribs were able to fully heal themselves. With in a matter of seconds, she was healed. Then for the next few minutes, they just sat in silence, watching Clockwork. He just sat there, staring at the floor. A few more minutes later he seemed to snap out of what ever he was in and finally acknowledge what happened and talk about it. Justin had looked over at Milli, who shrugged back at him. "Thanks," Justin said. "I remember my first fight," Clockwork said, leaning back in his seat and kicking his feet up. "I was scared out of my mind. Were you scared?" "Of course I was," Justin replied. "I noticed you did Milli's super speed trick." Nano said. "Yeah so did I," Milli said. "Do it again." "Alright," Justin said. He snapped his ring finger then his middle finger. For a split second he felt like being pulled into where is ring finger snapped but then he felt a change in direction and he was pulled into where his middle finger was snapped. A second later, however, everything seemed to be the same speed. "Did it work?" Justin said. The second he said that everyone in the room gasped. "What?" He asked the room. "Your voice," Nano replied, his voice shaking. "It was moving really fast." "Try walking." Milli suggested. Justin tried it and realized he was moving incredibly fast. Every one step he took propelled him several steps forward. He also noticed he wasn't losing as much energy but moving a lot faster. There was a collective gasp from the group. Justin snapped both fingers again and returned back to normal time. "That was awesome," Justin said. "Yeah, it looks like you can do what I do except you're not invisible," Milli said. "Not bad for your first time." "Yeah," Justin said, then he remembered something he had forgotten because of Clockworks weird behavior earlier. "Check out what I brought." Justin said, pulling out some odd handheld machine. "I brought it from the future. I don't know what it does but it could be
useful." Justin said. Everyone else remained sitting in their chairs, wide eyed. "Justin, don't." Clockwork said. "Why not?" Justin said, flipping the on switch. Clockwork dove behind a couch. Nano ran and turned the table over and hid himself behind it. The machine started glowing and making a loud noise. Milli yanked it from Justin's hand and with lightning speed, threw it in the refrigerator. She then ran and tackled Justin out of the way. A second later there was a giant explosion. The door of the refrigerator flew off and barried itself in the wall a few feet away from Justin's head. Everyone else got up and looked at the damage. The refrigerator was destroyed and charred bits of it stuck in the wall. The biggest remaining piece was the door. "Well, I warned you," Clockwork said finally. He looked over at where the refrigerator was. "Well, it was a piece of junk anyway. We needed to get a new one anyway. Thanks for getting rid of the old one." "But, I," Justin stammered confused. "Come on," Milli said. "Lets take a walk, get a new one, and maybe get a bite to eat or something on the way." "Good idea," Clockwork said. "Yeah, alright." Justin said. "But I don't have that much money." "Don't worry about that," Milli said, walking over to a picture frame on the wall. She took off the picture to reveal a wall safe. She turned the dial a few times and opened it. Inside were tons and tons of stacks of bills. Much more money then Justin had ever seen either on TV or in real life. "How did you guys get all that money?" Justin asked. "We play the lottery a lot," Clockwork said with a grin. "And we don't lose." Chapter 8 Justin quickly figured out that a walk to Milli wasn't like any walk he'd had before. She froze the entire street except for them. Everyone was in the middle of a step or hurrying to get somewhere. They didn't have to hurry. They had all the time in the world. Justin wished he could just walk with Milli forever in a time frozen world. No problems, no worries, no time. "I'm guessing your pretty confused about now," Milli finally said, breaking the silence, which was ten times worse because no one else was moving. "Yeah, today has been a long day," Justin replied. "Well, I thought this walk would be good for you," Milli said. "You can ask me questions and I'll see if I can answer them." "Alright, lets start with the obvious. Why did that thing blow up?"
"Yeah, i figured you'd ask that. You can't take objects from a later time period back in to a time period where it didn't exist before and use them. That function didn't exist. Because the technology isn't available the device doesn't know what to do. It does the one thing it can, explode.Clockwork's staff thing works like that. He could either tap it against a wall which shoots it out using electricity and makes it faster, or if he presses a button he can just use gravity to make the blades shoot out. Because the technology exists. But if it didn't it would end badly for him. Even using a zipper on a jacket back when the technology wasn't available, could cause catastrophic damage." "Wow. I had no idea. I'm sorry," Justin said. "Don't be. We all made that mistake. I'm just glad no one got hurt," Milli said. "I've got another question though." "Shoot." "Whose this Shadow guy? And another thing, why does everyone have weird nicknames?" Justin asked. "Well not much is known about Shadow. He's been fighting us for a while and he is the leader of the Era. We don't know his motives or what he wants. All we know is, he can't get it." Milli said. "As for the nicknames thing, everyone has one. We all have to have one so no one knows our real identity. So no one can go back in time and kill us early on in life." "Can't you just find out Shadow's real identity and kill him then?" Justin asked. "No, Shadow's a different story. When he first started trying to kill us, we got close to finding out his past and his childhood. Right before we could though, he did the unthinkable. He went back in time and murdered his parents and younger self before any of us could get to him first. Now his younger self doesn't exist. There's no way to kill him that way or figure out who he is." "That's terrible," Justin said. "How could anyone do such a thing?" He said more to himself then as a question to Milli. "If you don't mind me asking, what is your real name?" "Olivia," she said with a small smile. "I'm Justin," Justin replied, smiling back. "But im sure you already knew that." She laughed. "Yeah, I figured," They stopped in front of a large appliance store. Olivia grabbed Justin's arm and pulled him to an abandoned corner without any cameras. She snapped them back to normal time and they walked into the store. They selected a refrigerator and bought it. They asked them to bring it outside so they could load it in their car. A warehouse worker rolled it out on a dolly. When he asked them where their car was, they both put a hand on the refrigerator. Olivia then snapped her fingers and vanished, leaving one puzzled warehouse worker staring at the empty space where they had left.
They stayed invisible but sent the refrigerator through time to where the old refrigerator was before, or so Olivia and Justin hoped. They went back to the abandoned corner and restored time. They snuck away from the store and dodged the warehouse worker that was still staring at the empty space, not believing what he had just seen. They got a block away from the store, then they started bending over, laughing. It took both of them a few minutes to stop laughing and stand back up. "That was so funny," Justin said. "Did you see his face?" "Yeah no kidding." Olivia said. "But I do kinda feel bad for him." "Yeah me too," Justin said. "But only a little. So what about that burger? I'm starved." "There's a burger joint up ahead. Its not bad. Lets go." They walked over to the place and ordered two burgers, two frys, and two shakes. They grabbed their food and started eating. "You know," Olivia said between bites. "I never got a chance to thank you. For saving me today." "No problem," Justin said, swallowing a bite of his hamburger. "I guess I should be thanking you too. For saving me with the exploding device." "So, were even?" Olivia said. "I guess we are." "I have a question for you now." Olivia said, after a few more seconds of silence. "How did you first figure out you had this gift. I mean how did you figure out you could do this?" "I don't know," Justin replied. "I was just snapping my fingers one day and everything started moving slower. I thought i was going crazy for a while but now I understand and it's a wonderful feeling. How did you figure out?" Olivia didn't answer right away. She twirled her milkshake around for a minute before answering. "I was in the school band." She finally said. "I played the cymbals. One time I clashed them together. Next thing i knew there as a dinosaur right next to my head." Justin tried to hold it back for as long as he could but he couldn't anymore. He started cracking up laughing. "Stop it," Olivia said, starting to laugh herself. "It isn't funny." But pretty soon she was laughing too, they both were laughing so hard they couldn't breathe for a few seconds. Chapter 9 Justin and Olivia both reappeared in the base a grim face from Clockwork. They followed their gazed and saw the refrigerator wasn't placed in the exact same spot as it was before. Instead it landed right on the couch and crushed it. Justin and Olivia quickly exchanged glances and pointed an accusing finger at the other person. "While that is a tragic accident indeed, thats not the reason for the grim face." Clockwork said, throwing a newspaper at them. It slid
and rested at their feet. Justin picked it up and read the headline. "Top news, Roman Colosseum, 87 B.C, we have Nano. Surrender." Under the headline was a picture of Nano, he was tied up and there was a knife next to his head. Olivia grabbed the paper from Justin and read it herself. She then threw the paper down and walked over to a cabinet. She pulled out a long sheathed blade. She then looked over at Justin. "Coming?" She asked. He nodded and they looked over at Clockwork. "I guess I'm coming too." Clockwork said. "To make sure you guys don't get yourself killed." But Olivia wasn't listening. She was already gone. Clockwork extended a hand to Justin. "I'm going to try it myself," Clockwork nodded and Justin focused on the date and place. He clapped his hands together and shot forward into the space his hand connected. He reappeared right next to Milli. She didn't look over at him. She was focused on the crowd in front of her. There was a few people surrounding Nano. In front of them all was Shadow, starring right back at Milli. Clockwork appeared right behind Justin. "Shadow," he said. He then ran at him, snapping out his blades as he ran. A second later everyone else ran at the gang. Justin and Milli quickly joined in. Justin snapped his fingers and time shifted the first guy he saw a few feet away from the colosseum. He flew a few feet before hitting the ground with a sicking crunch. Justin kicked a few more people out of his way and fought up to where Milli was. They stood back to back and took out everyone that came close to them, knocking them off the colosseum. The numbers were small to begin with so it didn't take long to destroy them all. They finally turned and saw Clockwork in a stand off with Shadow. "Where is my sister?" He finally asked. "You want her?" Shadow said, his voice cold and deep. "Then you'll have to get through me." "Sounds like a plan." Clockwork said running at him, Justin followed to help. Clockwork ran and spun his staff, trying to sweep his legs. Shadow was faster, he snapped his fingers and reappeared behind Clockwork throwing a kick at his back. He sensed it and spun back blocking it with his staff. Shadow pushed the staff to the ground and kicked him back with the other foot. Clockwork took a few steps back and tried to regain his balance. He got it back but he was dangerously close to the edge when he got it. Shadow came in for the final kill and was about to push him off. Suddenly, Justin came flying out of no where and tackled Shadow out of the way. They both rolled to the ground and rolled to their feet. Clockwork got back up and got behind Shadow, Justin in front. Justin ran up and tried to pick up Clockwork's staff. He ran at Shadow and at the last moment slid under his legs. He got up and dove at the weapon. At the last minute,
Shadow appeared right by it and picked it up. "I'll take that, thanks." Shadow said, swinging the staff at Justin. He quickly dodged it by doing a back hand spring. Clockwork ran up behind him and tried to throw a few punches. Shadow blocked as many as he could with his staff but it was pushing him back. That gave Justin an idea and he snapped his fingers. He ended up right behind Shadow. Clockwork threw another punch which pushed Shadow back. He took a step and collided into Justin's out stretched foot. Shadow quickly lost balance and fell flat on his back. Justin leaned over him. "It seems like you underestimated us." Justin said. Shadow quickly snapped his fingers and ended up behind Justin. "No, It seems that you underestimated me." Shadow said. He spun the blade and stabbed it right into Justin's back. Justin fell on to his knees, then landed flat on his face. Justin Time was dead. Book 2 Present Chapter 10 At 6:45 am, Justin Time's alarm went off. Justin starred at the blood stained spot on the floor. Justin didn't know what to do. He stared at the floor for a few more seconds. "87 A.D?" He said out loud, puzzled. He sat up in his bed and pushed himself out. He leaded over and felt the blood on the ground. It was real he wasn't imagining it. "87 A.D?" He said again. "On top of the colosseum?" He finished by clapping his hands like he saw the boy on the ground do. He felt a quick jolt and was thrown forward. He hit the
ground and almost instantly felt a sharp, searing pain in his back. He recoiled his back as what ever had hit him was pulled back. Justin quickly realized he had no more energy left in his legs. He fell to his knees, his vision blackening. He then fell forward. The last thing he saw was the back of his own head. Shadow watched as the boy in front of him dropped to the ground. He looked up and saw Justin turn around and stare him, coldly. "You underestimate me," Justin said. "So you got someone to take your place," Shadow replied. "How brave of you. Who was it that you got to be your unwilling sacrifice?" Without lowing his piercing gaze, Justin used his shoe to roll over the dead body. Shadow quickly stole a glance at the body and looked back up at Justin. He then did a double take and looked back at the body once more. Lying there in a puddle of his own blood was the man standing in front of him. He looked a bit younger but not by age but my experience. The one standing in front of him seemed more violent and tougher. "What did you do?" Clockwork asked shocked. He was standing behind Justin, but Justin didn't even seem to notice him. "I'm now like you. I have no past." Justin said. "Soon you won't have a future." Justin finished by running at Shadow. He kicked the staff out of his hand and round house kicked him again. Shadow was pushed back to the edge and Justin ran up and swung a punch, pushing him all the way off. His image got smaller and smaller as he fell to the ground. At the last minute he snapped his fingers and vanished. He reappeared on the other side of the colosseum. "You haven't see the last of me," he screamed. He then clapped his hands and disappeared. Milli ran over towards Nano. She quickly untied him and helped him to his feet. "You ok?" She asked. "Yeah," he said, looking over at Justin. He was kneeling by his older self, holding his head up. He was cold, there was no life left in him. He was dead. "There is no turning back now," he said, more to himself and his dead self then anyone else. "This is how it is." Clockwork came over and put a hand on his shoulder. "What a brave and stupid thing to do," he said. "It had to be done," Justin said. He look one last look at his body. "I'll meet you guys back at the base." He said clapping his hands and vanishing. Milli walked over to the body. "We might as well take it back, give it a proper burial," Milli said. Clockwork nodded and went to help her lift the body. They each grabbed one side and tried to lift. The second they did that, the body disintegrated into dust that blew away with the wind.
Chapter 11 Date: First day of the rest of my new life. I don't know if my name is Justin or Just In anymore. Everything seems too confusing to comprehend right now. Just a few hours ago my life was great. I had friend, I was doing well in school, I had a family. I was a normal, typical high school kid. Except for the fact that I could control time, I wasn't much different from everyone else in the school. You know what I did with that part of me? I killed it. I killed it to save something I'm not. Now I don't even know who I am anymore. -
Clockwork, Nano, and Milli all sat in silence, watching Justin. He was curled up in the corner of the room, writing on a small scrap of paper. When they came back to the base he was there, he didn't say a word. He didn't look up, he just kept on writing. They all looked at each other, wanting to talk about what had just happened but none of them wanted to interrupt Justin. A few minutes later, he stood up. He folded the piece of paper and put it into his pocket. He turned around and faced the others. "What?" He asked, noticing them all staring at him. "Don't you want to talk about what happened?" Milli asked. "No, not really," Justin replied. "Well that's too bad," Clockwork said. "Let's have a talk." "Yeah do you realize what you just did?" Nano asked. "I still can't believe you did that," Olivia said. "I mean, I told you about Shadow yesterday, I didn't expect you to go through with it." She said, her eyes filled with sadness. "It was the only way," Justin finally said. "The only way for what?" Clockwork asked. "To level the playing field. Shadow and I have no pasts now. We've given up our past selfs and devoted ourselves entirely to this war." "You didn't have to kill yourself to prove that," "Maybe not, but it was only a matter of time before he found out who I really am. I mean, It's not that hard to guess my real name. I couldn't risk him getting to my family and killing me early on in life. It was the only way." "How did you not die. I mean he did kill your former self. Shouldn't you be dead now?" Nano asked. "No, I don't know how it works but I think if both the present and past selfs are there, then the present one survives. I don't really know how all of this works, but I figured if Shadow did it that way, then so could I." "So you just went in there hoping for the best?" Olivia asked.
"Yeah, basically. "You had this plan from the beginning?" Clockwork said, now angry. "When were you planning on telling us? I mean is there no more trust anymore?" "Good question." Justin said. "I was thinking the same thing. When were you going to tell me Shadow took your sister?" That changed his mood. His face instantly turned from angry to sadness. "It doesn't matter anymore. I've lost all hope in getting her back," he buried his face in his hands. "You'll get her back," Justin said. "How do you know?" Clockwork asked. "Cause I'm going to help you," Justin replied. "What are you going to do?" "We're going to find out where she is and bring her back," Justin said. "What?" Olivia said. "That's crazy, you've tried it. It didn't work last time." "True," Clockwork said deep in thought. "But that was just me. If Justin comes we can easily do it." "You can't be seriously considering this," Olivia asked. "I'm more then considering it," "Where is this place?" Justin asked, leaning forward in his seat. "Oh, not you too," Olivia said. "Its a small place in the desert," Clockwork said leaning forward closer to Justin. "This is a really bad idea," Olivia said. "Let's do it." Chapter 12 For the next few hours, Justin and Clockwork looked over maps of the base that Clockwork stole while Olivia watched over with a disapproving look. "Here is the best way to get in," Clockwork said pointing at the map. "Yeah but thats the front door," Justin replied studying the map some more. "How are we going to get there, let alone get in?" "Don't worry about that, we'll just get in the same way I did," Clockwork replied rolling up. "How far did you get last time?" Justin asked. "A few steps past the front door," Olivia replied her face grim. "Yeah but I'll be careful this time," Clockwork told her. "Besides, I have Justin." "We'll be fine," Justin said to Olivia. Her mood didn't change. "Just be careful," she said walking away. "Ready?" Clockwork said.
"Ready," he grabbed Clockworks arm and he snapped his fingers. They reappeared back at the spot where Justin had his first fight and he first saw Shadow. They waited for a minute and a few seconds later there was three clapping noises. They looked over at the direction of the noise and saw Milli, Nano, and themselves reappear. Justin realized they weren't just back at the spot of the fight, they were back at the exact time too. "This is weird," Justin said watching himself running into the fight. "I can't believe I'm watching a memory." "Yeah, I know the feeling," Clockwork asked as he watching his former self run at Shadow. "So what are we doing back here?" Justin asked as they watched everyone vanish. "Follow me," Clockwork said. He then began running at the wounded on the ground. Justin quickly followed but Clockwork was faster. When he got there, Clockwork was holding out two jumpsuits. Justin noticed they were the exact same kind the people he fought were wearing. "I had to guess your size," Clockwork said throwing the jumpsuit at him. "Hope it fits." Justin caught it and quickly changed. Clockwork then ran behind a building and beckoned Justin over. When he got there they hid in the shadows. A few seconds later, there was a loud clap and a bus-looking vehicle appeared. Two men got out and started dragging the wounded to the bus. "Remember when you went into that hyper-speed?" Clockwork whispered, Justin nodded. "Do it." He finished and put a hand on Justin's shoulder. He snapped his fingers twice and the world slowed down and returned to normal. "Done," Justin said. Clockwork nodded. "Once they get back into the car, run at it and put your hand on it," Clockwork said. A few seconds later, the men had dragged all their fallen comrades into the car. They went to the front seats and got it. "Now," Clockwork said and they both sprinted out to the car. They got there right as the man in the front seat clapped his hands. The car shook and vanished. It reappeared in the middle of what seemed like no where. It just looked like sand and rocks for miles and miles everywhere Justin looked. They literally were in the middle of nowhere. Justin and Clockwork ran and hid behind a large boulder in the middle of the sand. The doors opened and the men got out, they dragged their comrades to a large rock a few feet away from the bus. They knocked on the rock and it opened like a door. Two men walked out and looked at them. They exchanged a few words, one of the door guards laughed and moved aside to let them in. They then looked around before closing the door behind them. "Follow my lead," Clockwork said. He went around the boulder and walked up to the door, Justin following close behind.
"Wait," Justin said snapping his fingers again and returning them to normal time. They walked up to the door again and Clockwork knocked. The same two guards answered. "Who are you?" One of them asked in a not so friendly voice. "Patrol 324. Nothing to report." Clockwork said in an authoritative voice. He then tried to shove past the guards and walk through. He must have said something right cause they moved aside and let him past. Justin quickly followed behind him. "Hey, wait a second." One of the guards called back. Justin stopped and his heart rate sky rocketed. He instantly put his thumb and ring finger together ready to snap at any moment. Clockwork stopped and turned around, showing boredom on his face. "What?" He asked. "Did you see any Dial members on your patrol?" "No, if I had I would have reported it." Clockwork said. He then added with a smile. "Though I wish I would have. If I ever get my hands on one of them." Clockwork let the sentence hang in the air. The guard that asked him laughed. "Yeah, I know how you feel." He replied. "I just wish I could to them. They're too quick though." "We'll get them," Clockwork said turning around and walking away. "Its just a matter of time." The guard didn't say anything else, he just turned and closed the door. "Not bad," Justin said as they got out of ear shot. "Thanks," Clockwork said concentrating on how to get to his sister. He visualized the maps in his head. "We have to head down." He finally said. They found a staircase and started walking down. They passed a few people on the way but no one stopped them or asked them anything. They walked for a few more floors until they reached the bottom. They took the first door on their right and walked down a long, dimly lit hallway. At the end was a door with a big lock on it. Clockwork took out his staff and slammed it against the lock. The blade shot out and broke it into a bunch of tiny pieces. He slid the blade back and kicked the door open. "We should hurry," Justin said looking around. "Someone will come and investigate the noise." Clockwork nodded and walked in the room. It was a small room with a high ceiling. The only lighting in the room was the light coming from a small window by the ceiling. There was a small girl in the corner of the room. She was sitting on the floor facing the wall. "Sis?" Clockwork asked. She raised her head, and slowly turned around. She stared at Clockwork as if expecting him to vanish if she blinked. She walked over to him. "Nick?" she asked, eyes wide. "Yeah, its me." Clockwork said with a smile. She then threw her arms around and locked them in a tight embrace. He had finally found
her. Chapter 13 They broke off the hug and looked at each other for a moment. She then shoved him. "What took you so long?" She asked, folding her arms. "I got caught up in a few things," he replied, smiling. He then looked at her hands. They were incased in thick metal gloves. "What is that on your hand?" "Oh, I don't know." She replied. "All I know is I can't move my fingers." "They must have thought you could time warp and put the gloves on," Nick said. "Don't worry. I'll find the key and we'll get them off." They headed out of the prison cell and saw Justin standing there. "Julia," he said to his sister. "This is Justin. Justin, this is my sister Julia." "Pleasure to meet you," Justin said. "Anyone coming?" Nick asked. "No, it's been quiet on this end," Justin replied. "Are we heading out?" "Not yet," Nick replied. "We need to find the key to these cuffs." He said pointing at Julia's metal gloves. "We need to find the key?" Justin replied. "It could be anywhere. We don't even know where to begin looking." "Is this what you are looking for?" Came a cold familiar voice from behind them. They all turned around to see Shadow standing there. He was holding a small key out in front of them. He was wearing dark pants and a dark shirt over a long black jacket. That and his long white hair made him look like some villen straight out of a black and white movie. He just stood there, smiling and watching them. He had them cornered and there was no where to run. "Shadow," Clockwork said. "Ah, my old friends," Shadow said. "This must be that sister you keep asking about." "Love to stay and chat," Clockwork said, raising a hand. "But I've got to run." He put his fingers together about to snap one moment and in the next he had those metal gloves on too. Justin looked at his own hands and saw he was wearing them too. He struggled and tried to pry them off but the lock was brand new and wasn't coming off anytime soon. "No, why don't you stay a while." Shadow said. He had snapped his fingers so fast that Justin and Clockwork hasn't even seen him move. "Not going to lie," Justin whispered at Clockwork. "He is good."
"Shut up," Clockwork replied. "Why don't I show you to your new rooms," Shadow said shoving Justin and Clockwork into the cell they just left and locking the door. "What are you doing with my sister?" Clockwork yelled through the door. "I'm moving her somewhere else," Shadow said, his voice getting quieter and quieter as he walked away. "Somewhere where you can never find her." Chapter 14 Shadow grabbed Julia's arm and threw her into a cell. "If you wouldn't mind waiting here," Shadow said in a wickedly polite voice. "I will make sure our travel plans are all set." He finished, closing and locking the door behind him. He laughed his way down the hallway and back to the stairs. On the stairs a cloaked figure was waiting for him. "My lord," he said, bowing. "Ah, Socrates, my old friend. What news have you brought me?" Shadow asked. "Good news, my lord," Socrates replied as they started walking up the stairs. "Oh? Do tell." "We've found something," he begin. "We found a window of time." "Were the Mayans correct?" Shadow asked. "No," Socrates responded. "They weren't even close. We sent people to then, everyone came back claiming that we had invented flying cars." "So they were wrong," Shadow said. "My guess is many people were disappointed." "Yes, the men report that there was mass chaos in the streets and people were in a panic." Socrates said. "Sadly, there were many suicides." "That is to be expected. But you did not come here to talk about such sad news. What good news have you brought me?" "We have found a window," Socrates begin. "You've said that before," Shadow said. "You gave me the same news a few months ago." "Yes, but we have been researching it. Slowly but steadily the window has been growing smaller and smaller. We lost many men trying to find when it begins. However, we got a small window, about a few months wide." "Months?" Shadow asked surprised. "Months," he replied. "Its taken some time and extensive research. But we've finally got something."
"Great work," Shadow replied, now reaching the top of the stairs. "You have figured out this time faster then I thought you would. Not that I didn't think you were capable. Its just something that should take a lot of time." "Thank you my lord," Socrates said, bowing low again. "Shall I tell you the specifics of what I have figured out?" "Not yet," Shadow said. "I have some pressing matters to attend to." "Of course," Socrates said. "Is there anything else I could assist you with?" "No, I will summon you if there is," Shadow said walking away. He passed a few doorways and turned down a few hallways. He finally got to the room he was looking for and opened the door. There was a figure lying on the bed, eating an apple. He had long curly brown hair and was wearing one of the jumpsuits that Clockwork and Justin stole. When he saw Shadow walk in the room, he put the apple down and jumped to attention. "Shadow," he said, bowing. "What can I do for you?" "Tom," Shadow said. "Tom Sawyer. Rise, I have a mission for you." "What is it?" "We have two dial members locked up downstairs." Shadow said, Toms eyes growing wide with surprise. "In a few minutes they will escape. Fortunately for us, were holding all the aces. We have one of their sisters." "What shall I do?" Tom asked. "I need you to take their sister, and keep the dial members busy," Shadow replied throwing the key he was holding at him. "There is something of upmost importance that I need to take care of." "Of course," Tom replied. "I'll take care of it right away." "Make sure that you do," Shadow said, snapping his fingers and vanishing. Chapter 15 Justin and Clockwork sat in their dark cell facing opposite walls, not talking to each other. Justin sat in a corner with his arms draped over his knees while Clockwork was lying on the ground with his arm over his face. Neither of them wanted to speak, to talk about what had just happened or to admit they had been out smarted. It was Clockwork that broke the silence. "Its all my fault," he said. "I thought we could handle it and my eyes were bigger then my stomach and now I got you tangled up in all this. I'm sorry." "Don't be," Justin replied.
"I'm just glad I got to see her again, one last time," Clockwork said. "Don't say that," Justin said. "We'll get out of this mess and get her back." "I hope so," Nick replied. "I mean, we got so close to getting her back. Now she's gone and I might never see her again." "Don't talk like that," Justin said. "We'll get out and find her. We'll crush anyone that gets in our way." "Yeah but we first have to get out of here," Nick said. "Yeah, still working on a solution for that," Justin said. "You got any ideas?" "Nope, fresh out." "Well, it looks like we are stuck here until we come up with something." Justin said, burring his face in his hands. The sound of metal striking rock made his head jerk up and look around in surprise. After the ring stopped echoing and Justin heart beat returned to normal he was able to focus. He looked over and saw Nick holding his hand in pain. "Not a good idea," he said. "But an idea nonetheless." "What did you do?" Justin asked. "Its pretty obvious," he replied. "I tried to break the gloves." "How did that work out?" "How do you think?" Clockwork replied. "We'll get out of this. We just need to think." "How do you know we'll make it out?" Clockwork said rambling now. "What if we die here? What if were locked here until we riot and rats will be eating our bones. I'll never see my sister again. I'll never see the light of the sun again." There was a clicking noise and Justin looked down. The lock on his gloves had rusted fully through and the latch broke off. Justin's and Clockwork's gloves fell off and clattered to the floor. The lock on the door also rusted over and fell off the door and hit the ground. Justin looked at his hands in unbelief. "Clockwork," Justin said. "Our bones will be scattered across this cell. People wont even know its us anymore," he continued. Rambling on, not noticing his hands were free and the door was wide open. "Clockwork!" "What? We're sitting in our own grave, we're going to die, were going to riot here and never see the sun again but what is so important?" "Look at your hands," Justin said. Clockwork gave Justin a weird look and looked at his hands. His eyes grew wide as he saw his hands weren't covered. He did a double take, he even felt his hands. "What happened?" "While you were going crazy, our gloves fell off," Justin explained. "Also the door is unlocked. You might have missed that too."
"But how did this happen?" "Im not asking questions." Justin said getting up and grabbing Clockwork's arm. "Lets get out of here." Chapter 16 Justin and Clockwork kicked the door down and ran out of the cell. "Ah, fresh air." Clockwork said, taking a deep breath of air. "We were only in there for maybe a half hour." "Still." They ran down the hallway and up the stairs. They ended up out by the entrance again. The same guards were still posted out front. "Going out on another patrol?" one of them asked as they approached. "Make sure you take out some dial members for me." Clockwork ran up to one of them and tackled him to the ground. His companion came from behind to help but Clockwork spun his staff behind him and sent the man to the floor. "Where is my sister?" "Who?" "The girl in the cell downstairs. Black hair, about 5 foot 3. Ring any bells?" "I don't know what you are talking about," the man replied. Clockwork spun his staff around and pressed a button. The blade slid out and locked in place about an inch from the man's face. "Oh, that girl," the man replied. "I think she left, with another man. I don't know where they were heading." The man added when he saw the rage in Clockwork's eyes. "Where were they last seen heading?" "They were last seen heading east," the man said pointing. "Come on," he said to Justin. They started walking in the direction the man pointed. "Remember what he said about what he would do if he ever saw a dial member?" Clockwork asked. "Yeah," Justin said. "I don't think soil myself was on that list, do you?" "Nope." Justin said as they ran down the hall. They reached a garage type building and went in. They pressed a button on the wall and one of the panels on the wall slid up, replacing the darkness of the room with light. "Four-wheel drive," Justin said pointing at one of the cars. "You drive," Clockwork said getting in the passengers seat. Justin got in the car and saw the keys were already in the ignition. He started up the car. "Hold on," he said, snapping his fingers twice. He pressed on the gas and the car shot out of the garage. They saw a pair of tracks on the sand already.
"Follow them," Clockwork said, pointing at the tracks. "Working on it," Justin replied and accelerated the vehicle. Cause they were moving at a hyper speed, it didn't take them long to catch up to the other car. It was the van they used to get here earlier. "There she is," Clockwork said, pointing. "Got it," Justin said pulling up behind next to it. The other car sped up but Justin was faster. He hit the gas and the car flew forward. Clockwork snapped his fingers and vanished. Justin watched as the car jerked a bit and Clockwork reappeared holding his sister. "What a rush," Julia said, Clockwork laughed. "Lets get out of here," Justin said. "No we still have to get the key," Julia said. "The driver still had it." "On it," Justin said hitting the brakes. He snapped his fingers and disappeared. He reappeared a split second later, in the van. It was fairly basic, just a few seats and nothing else. The driver turned and noticed Justin was there. He swerved the car and throw Justin out. Justin dove and tackled the driver, trying to grab the wheel. The driver tried to fight him back and take control of the car. It was swerving back and forth and they were both sliding everywhere. Justin reached over and opened the drivers side door. The car hit a bump and sent them both flying out of the car. They rolled to their feet, a few yards away from each other and got into fighting stances. "Come on, give me your best shot," the driver said. "I'll even give you the first punch." Justin smiled and shrugged his shoulders. "If you say so," he said, snapping his fingers. He suddenly appeared a foot away from him in the air falling towards him. With his fist raised, he swung it around, using his speed from falling, and connecting it with the drivers face. It sent him flying a few feet away. He landed, hard on his back, on the sand and slid a few inches. He slowly got up to his feet and looked over at Justin. "Is that the best you've got?" he asked weakly. "That wasn't so bad," he said, falling face first in the sand. Justin walked over and grabbed the key that was hanging around his neck. "Thanks, I'll take that," Justin said. "You have no idea what your up against," the man said. "People that fight him, don't live very long." "I'll take my chances," Justin said, snapping his fingers. He reappeared a second later, right next to Clockwork and Julia. He grabbed Julia's encased hands and put the key in and unlocked the cuffs. "Thanks," Julia said. "Yes, Justin, thanks for your help," Clockwork said. "Now lets get out of here." He said, snapping his fingers. Justin, Nick and Julia all reappeared back in the base they had just left. They looked around and noticed immediately that something was wrong.
Chapter 17 "That the heck happened here?" was the first thing that Julia asked. The entire room was ransacked. The couch was flipped over, chairs thrown around the room, and the table was propped up against the wall. Justin walked over to it and turned it over. Nano was sitting there, tied up and there was a strip of duct tape over his mouth. Justin ripped the tape off. "Thank goodness you guys are here," he said. "What happened?" Clockwork asked. "Shadow, and some other guys," Nano said, still trying to catch his breath. His eyes were wide. Justin worked on untying him. "They showed up, we tried to fight, we couldn't, they were stronger." He finished. Justin got him untied and helped him to his feet. "Where is Olivia?" Justin asked. "They took her," Nano replied. Justin buried his face in his hands and leaned up against the wall. He slid down the wall and sat on the floor. "No," was all he was able to say. Clockwork walked up and put a hand on his shoulder. "We'll get her back," he said. "Why does he keep taking people?" Justin asked. "I mean, first your sister, then Nano, now she's gone." "Because he knows he can't handle all of use at once," Clockwork explained. "That's why he takes loved ones. To separate us. He took Julia cause she was my sister, he took Nano cause she was Milli's sister." Justin looked up in surprise. "Really?" he said, looking over at Nano. He nodded. "He took Milli cause she knew you would come after her and try to save her. Now that you have no past, he has to kill you the old fashioned way." "So how do we stop him," Justin asked. "By killing him the old fashioned way first," Clockwork said grabbing his staff. "But first we need to find out where they took her." Julia said. "Shadow told me to tell you 'blood for blood.' Does that make any sense?" Clockworks face instantly changed into an expression of shock at Nano's words. It then changed to anger. "I know where they are," he finally said. "Well, then lets go," Julia said. "No way," Clockwork replied. "You're not coming. I just got you back, I'm not losing you again." Then Julia snapped her fingers and ended up behind Clockwork. She wrapped a foot around his leg and pushed him. He lost his balance and fell to the floor.
"I think I can handle myself." Chapter 18 Clockwork, Nano, Justin, and Julia all appeared on a dark street corner. It was silent except for the sound of the wind and a soda can rolling along the ground. Justin had a feeling he had seen this place before but he couldn't remember where. They all walked a few feet and waited. They were the only ones on the street except for a homeless man sitting on the corner. They waited a few seconds then six figures appeared on the other end of the street. One of them was Shadow, the other was Olivia with a look of terror on her face. Seeing her like this sent rage down Justin's body. The other four were people Justin didn't know but looked like threats nonetheless. "Ah, Justin. I see you brought friends," Shadow said in his cold polite voice. "Let her go," Justin said. "What if I don't?" Shadow asked. "You wont like it," Clockwork said pulling out his staff and shooting the blades out. "Clockwork, you always had such a temper," Shadow replied. "I only want to talk." "About what?" "I want you to join me," Shadow begin addressing Justin. "Join me and she'll live. Refuse." He ended his sentence and left it hanging in the air an evil smile on his face. Justin looked at Olivia. She started to shake her head no, a silent plea not to join them. She would rather die then have him join them. "Why kill her though?" Justin asked. "Why can't you just leave us alone?" "Why? I think you friend can answer that," Shadow said gesturing to Clockwork. "I'm guessing he figured out my blood for blood code." Justin looked over at Clockwork. He sighed and looked at his feet. "Remember the newspaper with the story about the guy who died and no one knew who it was?" Justin nodded. "It was me, I killed someone cause I thought they had information on my sister. They didn't handle it very well, I take it." Justin realized thats where he saw the street. It was in the newspaper. "I'm ashamed for what I have done." He continued still looking at his feet. He gripped his staff tighter and looked up. "Its time I make up for the mistakes i've made." He finished and ran at Shadow his staff raised ready to strike. "Stop!" Came a voice that sounded faintly familiar from behind everyone. Suddenly everything did stop. Clockwork stopped in midstride and just hovered there in mid air. He could still move his head and look behind him. The homeless man started walking towards them. He was dressed in a dark hood with a long cape leading down and
blowing behind him in the wind. They couldn't see his face because it was blocked by the hood. He slowly walked towards them and stared at them. "Let her go," the man said pointing a finger at Shadow. "Who are you?" Justin and Shadow both asked at the same time. "You don't recognize me?" He smiled as they both shook their heads. "Well, don't worry. You soon will. Now, I'll only say this once more. Let her go." "Who are you to order me around?" "Times up," the man said raising his fingers to snap. "Big mistake," Shadow said smiling. He snapped his fingers first and a split second later, the man was wearing the metal gloves. "Just you luck, we had them in your size." Shadow said with a wicked grin. The man didn't even move, he just stared at Shadow. "You have no idea what you're dealing with," the man said, then he blinked. The gloves that were on his hands instantly started to rust, with in a matter of seconds the entire gloves were rusted through. A few more seconds later and they were nothing more then a pile of rust on the ground. Shadow stared at him in surprise. Gone was his clam attitude. "Who are you?" He asked, his voice filled with fear. "Your worst nightmare," the man blinked twice more. A second later there were three of the same men standing there. They all then ran in unison at Shadow and his small army. Justin, Clockwork, Nano, and Julia quickly followed. The four standing behind Shadow quickly jumped forward and fought off the three strangers and the rest of the gang. "Well look at the time," Shadow said, his voice still filled with fear but he was trying to cover it up with more calmness. "I'm afraid we must be going." Shadow said, grabbing Olivia's arm and snapping his fingers. Justin dove and tried to grab Olivia before they vanished. He landed hard on the ground, grasping at empty air. Chapter 19 Justin's rage returned and he ran into the fight. He ran up to the first man he saw and threw a punch at him. He snapped his fingers and reappeared right next to him and threw another punch. He continued the process of vanishing and reappearing in random angles until the man didn't have the strength to stand. Clockwork was wielding his staff and eventually took out another man. Nano and Julia didn't get to the fight fast enough cause the three strangers took out the remaining opposition. Justin grabbed the man he just took to the ground and pulled him back up. "Where did they go?" Justin asked. "I don't know," he replied weakly.
"Who would know?" "I don't know that either," he replied. "Maybe someone at the base could help you. I cannot." "Well thats too bad," Justin said throwing his arm back for a punch. Clockwork grabbed his arm as he was swinging it forward. "No!" He said. "Do that and you'll be making the same mistake I made. Let it go, he doesn't know anything." Justin lowered his fist and the man to the ground. He then looked over at the stranger. There was only one of him now and he was patiently waiting for them to stop talking. "Thanks," Clockwork said. The man only nodded. "You were the one that released us from the prison cell didn't you?" Justin asked. The man nodded again. "Yes, that was me helping you Justin," he replied. "How can you distort time without your hands?" Justin asked. "I didn't do that thing with the gloves a few minutes ago." Justin said. "Did any of you?" He said looking over at everyone else. They all shook their heads no. "I've been practicing this art for many many years now and I now posses the ability to distort time just by blinking," the man replied. Clockworks jaw practically hit the floor. "Who are you? Whats your name?" Justin asked. "You haven't figured out?" the man asked with a small smile. Justin shook his head. The man raised his arms and pulled his hood back. Justin gasped. The face that looked back had hair that wouldn't sit down flat no matter what anyone did to it. It had a scar on his left cheek by his ear from when Justin fell out of a tree in third grade. He had the same bright blue eyes. "My name is Justin Time." Book Three Future Olivia reappeared and fell to the ground. The first thing she noticed was that the ground was charred and burnt to a crisp. There was no more grass, no more soil, no more life. She looked up and over the plains and saw it was the same thing everywhere. Trees burnt to ash, mountains crumbled to the ground. Everywhere was flat. She could see for miles with out any obstruction. No buildings, no civilization, just an endless expanse of land. "Do you like it?" Shadow asked from behind her. Olivia jumped because she forgot he was there. She turned and saw him standing there a look of pure joy on his face. He was standing there with his hands in his pocket staring at the landscape in front of him. "Where are we?" Olivia asked totally confused. "Where we were a second ago," Shadow replied. "On that street
corner we just left. Just a few years later." "Where did everything go?" Olivia asked, still staring around in awe. This was alot to take in. "What happened?" "War happened," Shadow replied still looking around like a kid in a candy store. "Nation against nation, brother against brother. Tensions got high, wars broke out. It didn't take long until things just snapped." "So what are you saying happened here?" Olivia asked. "The apocalypse." -
Justin stared in awe at himself. He looked alot older and taller but he knew it was still him. There were small tells and characteristics that only Justin could notice. It was him, no doubt about it. There were small differences like he had more facial hair and he looked older, stronger, tougher. He had seen and experienced more then Justin, but it was without a doubt, Justin. "Your me?" Justin asked. The older Justin nodded. "Yes," the older Justin said. "How much older?" "About 15 years," the older Justin replied. Justin figured that must have been right. He looked like he was in his mid thirties. "But why?" Justin asked. "I had to come back, you guys wouldn't have laster very long against Shadows forces. He has many followers and the number is growing everyday. It was only a matter of time before you were all wiped out. I would know," He took a deep breath. Justin could tell the memory was painful. "None of you survived." He looked over at the rest of them. "Nick, Julia, Matt. Its been too long. How have you been?" They all just stared at the older Justin and then back at the other Justin. They looked back and forth between then, not believing what they are seeing. "Matt?" Justin looked over at Nano. He nodded, still wide eyed. "Where are the older versions of us?" Nick asked. "Did they not want to come or are they on their way?" "After you ran at Shadow, right before I showed up today," the older Justin replied. He hesitated for a second. Another painful memory. "You didn't survive. They were too strong for you." "Well, I guess I should say thanks for saving me," Nick replied looking at his feet. Justin could sense his pain. "Where is Olivia?" Justin asked. The older Justin stood there for a few seconds before answering. He took a deep breath and answered. "Olivia didn't make it either. Shadow vanished with her before I, we, could stop them. That was the last time I saw her. Thats why I had
to come back. This is my last chance to save her." "So now what do we do?" "We have to get Olivia back," Justin said. "By any means possible," the older Justin finished for him. Chapter 21 Nick, Justin, and older Justin went back to the base and looked back at the maps of the base. Matt and Julia started cleaning up everything that got destroyed. Nick, Justin, and older Justin were planning an attack on the base again and they were looking at the maps to see if there was any other way in. "That man I attacked told me that someone should know where they went," Justin said scanning the map for the hundredth time, looking for every possible entrance and exit. "We could go in the same way we went in before," Nick said. "Of course they would recognize us and be ready." As the older Justin was looking over the maps, a piece of paper fell out of his hooded cloak. Justin picked it up without his older self knowing and tucked it in his pocket. He felt bad for a second for stealing but then he realized it was his in a weird sort of way. "Justin and I can handle this," the older Justin said studying the map and trying to memorize all the rooms. "I know a way in." "Do you mind if I borrow your staff?" Justin asked. "I don't want to go in there without a weapon of some kind." "Its yours," Clockwork replied, holding out the shortened staff. "You just need to press the button on the side to get it to work." "Thanks," Justin replied. "Lets go," the older Justin blinked and instantly vanished. "Dang, That is so cool," Clockwork said. Justin clapped his hands together and he vanished too. He reappeared next to his older self. They were back by the front entrance again, facing the closed door. The older Justin walked up to the door and placed four objects around the edges. He walked back to Justin with a mischievous smile on his face. "Those haven't been invented yet," he said with a matter of fact tone and a smile on his face. A second later the devices let out a loud high pitch wail and a few more seconds later the devices exploded. Justin was a good fifty feet away but still felt the impact of the explosion, even from the tiny devices. Once the smoke and sand cleared, the Justins noticed the door was blown off its hinges and the two security guards were knocked out against the opposite wall. They both ran into the room and down the hallway. "Left," the older Justin said. They both took a sharp left and ran down the hall again. "Up," Justin said and they hit the stairs and sprinted up to the
top. They ended up in a research lab with a bunch of computers and work stations. There were people in lab suits walking around and conversing with each other.
