Human Demise, Regression in Disguise
By Randy Gonzalez
A discussion about “human evolution”, and by contrast, “human devolution”, is
arguable from a number of viewpoints. Some perspectives are more scientific than others
are. Regardless, from at one perspective, it would seem plausible that the human species
as a whole continues to invite eventual self-destruction. This might occur in numerous
ways. Naturally, or unnaturally, depending on one’s evaluation, a case could be made for
probable human extinction in the not too distant future. A growing number of skeptical
inquirers believe the human race is in fact losing the evolutionary race.
Grotesque exploitation of each other, resources, and other living creatures continues to
escalate. Human demise is a self-inflected, purposeful historical process whereby the
species does sufficient damage to its existence. Such devolution is intentional due to the
arrogance of people, slothful self-indulgent behaviors, and gluttonous consumption of
available resources. There are other factors as well. But, as a consequence of adverse
cause-effect degradations, the species regresses, yet remains in a self-deceptive state of
understanding. People freely make choices, often at the expense of others.
At the core of the “devolutionary process”, selfishness perpetrates the deceptions of
the many, with few exceptions, with long-term horrific outcomes. Humans foment their
passing on many levels, from personal destructiveness, to group hatred and persecutions.
In between that wide expanse of interpersonal interactions, for thousands of years, there
are countless examples of devastating effects. As the species labors behind intentional
regressions with many disguises, the end may be closer than one might think.
By comparison, to other species that have inhabited this planet, it is commonly
accepted that 99% of them have become extinct. Why would we think, given our
predatory and malevolent nature, that we would be any different? Good and evil can only
wrestle for a certain period of time before disaster strikes. So far however, human beings
have been fortunate. We survived natural disasters, pandemics, floods and famines, and
wars for thousands of years. That does not mean we have gotten any smarter in the
movement through time and place. In fact, we may have “devolved” dumber, that is to
say, stupider in how we treat ourselves, fellow inhabitants and the planet itself.
Now more than ever, doomsday predictions suggest something closer to reality than
science fiction. Ongoing analysis and investigation of current research is essential.
Nevertheless, scientists from a conservationist point of view, continue attempts to
measure rates of species extinction. Such data is compared to rates by which new species
evolve and replace others. However, at the present time, as some investigators assess
current conditions, negative aspects adversely favor gradual termination.
In terms of the evolutionary processes for increased diversity versus species
extinction, the former appears to be taking place. It may be that extinction rates are
occurring faster than “life forces” can compensate for the losses. An imbalance between
life and death may have been breached with severe repercussions. Once the line is
crossed between rational efforts to increase survivability, and the emotion driven thinking
fallacies of selfishness, the prospects for advancement greatly diminished.
In the multidimensional complexity of thinking, ideas intend the foundations by which
behavior unfolds to get what we want. We think and make choices based on what gain is
to be obtained. Given our proclivity toward a hedonistic nature, a cost-benefit analysis
spans a spectrum of ideations that are private, individual and rational. No matter how
senseless an act seems to another, whatever it is, it makes sense to us on a primal level.
Personal ideations discern rationalized intentions by which we are motivated by the
nature of our selectivity through various means of satiation.
Our range of inclinations varies, and as thinking devolves by choice, our purposes
transcend to a more sinister perception of the world around us. Selfishness, and the full
gamut of deceptive self-interests, instigates negatively divergent disparities across the
social spectrum. As people place self-imposed limitations on cognitive abilities, which
contrive a dumbing down of the populace, innovation and creativity suffer exponentially.
By persistent resistance to intelligent analysis in societal problem solving, a climate of
fearful fallacies of thinking hastens a communal repressiveness.
Across the social continuum, large numbers of people will voluntarily seek the well-
beaten path of apathy and mediocrity. Creativity, inventiveness and individuality are
negatively viewed as threatening to collective conformity. Gross fallacies of inference in
anti-thinking, steeped in emotional reactivity, will chase hasty facetious generalizations.
And, given the “herded mentality” of the majority, cultures will degenerate.
As societies and “empires” devolve, the attempts at pretending to be a global
civilization gradually reveal the baser aspects of human nature. Whining, sniveling and
self-pitying complainers add to the turmoil of wasteful grumbling, absent profound
solutions. Many complain in their “self-victimized pain”, yet few labor tirelessly in
serious problem-solving vain. A well-differentiated, mature, wise and dynamic presence
of mature leadership is woefully deficient in the world.
Particularly in the gluttonous consumption fixated post-modern cultures, leadership is
hardly in evidence of any significant form or fashion. No, selfishness is more the manner
and style. Arrogance focuses on the reflection in the shimmering pool of self-gratification
at any cost. Everything is a commercialized marketing ploy, with bloated consumerism as
the objective. Not much can be researched, viewed or otherwise contemplated in the info-
age, without a demeaning childish commercial interruption.
Nope, not even the most torturous genocidal infliction of human debauchery goes
reported without a brief advertising blip. People, places and things, are but means to
materialistic gain at the expense of intellectual and spiritual enlightenment. Meanwhile,
we forget the necessity of leadership for species survival. Leading is not “ruling” by
selfish motivations for self and party, or collective affiliation. It is confident, persistent
and intelligent action-oriented motivation to higher realms of thought and action. It is the
courage of convictions and despises symbolism over substance.
Honorable forthright self-evolving perseverance places high value in facts, reason and
rationality. Healthy mature skepticism trumps the fictions, myths and dogmatic
mysticism of ideological extremisms. By contrast, personal enlightenment leads by
visionary direction, creative power and selfless control to equalize with consistency the
distribution of wise, prudent and judicious actions. Humility discourages invitations to
the grotesque materialism of societies grown weaker by foolishness.
In the direction of higher thinking and actualization of thought into productive
transformational action, the decay of leadership potential, for instance, has deteriorated
severely. Success is more important than substance of character, and survival of the
human species is gravely in doubt. Figuratively speaking, clowns run the circus and the
circus is a three-ring display of self-centered superficial acts. Principles and precepts for
nobler ascendency are wasted for emotional irrelevancies in primal subservience.
Self-gratification for immediate satiation of prurient needs finds easy seduction to
fallacies of inference, which labor foolishly for hasty generalizations. For the
overindulgence of fuzzy thinking and mystical sputter, many spew the social landscape of
discourse with rages of stupidity. Regardless, an ignorant and devolving species cannot
long survive. And, why not? Other life forms have come and gone. As a species, around
the globe, we are tribal, superstitious and interpersonally barbaric.
In U.S. society, as compared to other so-called civilized nations, the majority of us are
physically unfit and gluttonously over-consumptive. In addition, many remain slothfully
deficient in intellectual pursuits, creative and artistic individuality and woefully ignorant
of historical relevancies to learn from the past. Mature imaginative thinking remains a
challenge in terms of rational and realistic problem-solving capabilities.
Self-centered hedonistic appeasement over-rides the essentiality of profound self-
changing transformation into a better species than before. To rise above the selfishness
require hard introspective mental labor. Sure, some try to overcome themselves and
ascend to higher levels of psychophysical innovation. By contrast, most do not make the
effort. As a result, they embrace the fixation of some point in time, with a particular
frame of reference. Extreme narrow perspectives devolve personal outlooks.
Unfortunately, such is the effort of the multitudes across planet earth. Yet, there are
some, a small percentage, who come to realize the dangerous necessity of attaining
higher insight into one’s existence. For those who seek the transition above their
selfishness, the quest is about individual differentiation. A well-differentiated non-
anxious presence is one that is becoming a better version of oneself. It is a matter of
willful liberation and a distinction of self-sufficiency in the freedom to self-evolve. A
wiser mature individuality is a daring prospect beyond the crowd.
Separating oneself from the illusions of the pack means an ever-expanding effort to
think, learn and grow with insightful appreciation. However, that prospect requires daily
diligence in healthy skepticism and methodical inquiry. Critical assessment of sensory
experiences, coupled with logical interpretation, goes beyond the boundaries of herded
thinking in the constraints of social conformity. It is much easier to remain thoughtlessly
bound to a simpler framework of two-dimensional superficiality. Erroneous thinking
patterns from self-absorbed intentions contrive regressive behaviors.
Beliefs often collide with reality in the sense that believability is clouded by the
conjecture of mythology. Folklore readily overrides the scientific validity of facts in
evidence to contrary. To the realm of the metaphysical, whether religious or otherwise,
people believe what they want to believe, in order to feel good about their world. With
the range of self-centered degrees of arrogance, one might easily proclaim humankind
might miraculously change and transform the planet. History has not shown that to be
true. By exhausting available resources, human demise might be inevitable.
By the comfort of the familiarity of divisive repetitions in human interactions, there is
an acceptability of living with less than meaningful transitions. Human exploitation is a
never-ending degeneration contrary to the transformational processes of an ascendant
race of planetary inhabitants. To rise above the degrading behaviors of the past, forsaking
the greed of self-gratification, requires extraordinary shifts of thinking. Ideations have to
excite behaviors that implement productive changes throughout all societies.
However, that is not going to happen. From the persevering energies of ancestral
pioneering explorers, to the bloated excessiveness of over-consumption, people will
invite their social and cultural collapse. As one historian has studied, as to the fall of
empires, and by extension the human species, each follows predictable paths of self-
destruction. In subsequent “ages”, or transitional periods of history, an “empire” moves
from exploration to exploitation. Rising from eras of discovery and conquest, commerce,
industry and commercialization give way to the increase of affluence.
From malevolent purposes of wealth accumulation, comes the growing stratification
of class divisions and ever-increasing misuse of resources. Creativity slumbers, injustices
show an increasing upsurge, inequities abound, and the decadence of stupidity becomes
commonplace. Maturity is shunned in favor of foolish and simpleminded behaviors.
Wisdom fails to achieve effective warnings for productive transformation. Widespread
emotional reactivity replaces rational objectivity, as reason falters.
With smug arrogance and disdain for those who have less, those with more claim a
seemingly “divine right” of sociopolitical decision-making. Political processes are
plundered by self-absorbed and selfish factions of “elitists”. Bloated national bureaucratic
systems over-reach into every aspect of private individuality. Immediate gratification in
gluttonous consumption pacifies the masses, as the end gets closer.
In the aberrant stupidity of lazy attentiveness toward serious life and death issues of
survivability, some researchers point to the deadly impact humans have on the
environment. Climate change is one of those and a controversial topic of investigation. A
few others have even suggested that survival might be assured if industrial societies
collapse. In this regard, digressions pertain mainly to over-consumption and exploitation
of natural resources. As a result, a regression of modern commercial-industrial
technologies would force people to revert to more basic modes of living.
Constant reliance on machinery, chemicals, rapid production and marketing of
everything for immediate unending consumption, continues to hasten the decline of
livable environmental conditions. Like a plague of locusts, swarm, consume and move on
to the next opportunity for consumptive satiation. Then again, maybe the analogy should
be more like our fascination with intergalactic visitors. Given cultic preoccupations with
UFO’s, perhaps we’re the aliens, here to use up resources and leave.
Technology over-kill, according to several investigators may actually end up killing us
off. We are self-destructive in our own ill-contrived and unwise utilization of inventive
capabilities. Not to mention of course, we perpetrate a collective inability to ensure
equity, justice and social harmony as a planetary civilization. Human nature, as regards
the primordial duality that struggles in dire straits of good versus evil, enjoys the
seduction to the darkness of personal demise. We flirt with death every day.
Into the abyss of extinction, our persistent selfishness drives a significant number of
other species to oblivion every year. At some phase, there will likely be a disappearing
point of departure that includes us. As in some sci-fi adventure, the “zombie” apocalypse
will show our misguided complicity. The results could be horrific. Yet, every day on each
news show, smiling, smugly silly faces of “movie star” media personalities happily
“report” the usual mundane foolish conjecture.
Reporting with grinning banality, pretended concern, and tainted when timing is right
on cue for rehearsed emotionalism, the trite festivities pontificate briefly on the latest
headlines. And then, after acting the part for some semblance of mystic wisdom, the
horrors of the day cut to a commercial for further contrived pretentiousness. After
returning from a seemingly endless flash of fast paced yelling, grunting and groveling,
there’s the high fashion weather report. Then, on to sports, eating, and buying.
How sadly superficial we are, along with how little we actually, deeply, wisely think
about what we say and do. Coupled in that sense, regretfully true, and disastrously
probable, is the inability to transform to a higher level of enlightened maturity. While the
key mission of the individual journey could be described as a personal quest, it is by no
means a selfish one. Nonetheless, the greediness is monumental. Surely, and without
question, there are always a few minor exceptions. However, that is not enough to turn
the tides of rising floodwaters, literally and figuratively, against societal erosion. To the
vast majority of human inhabitants, serious analytic ideation is too hard.
A devolving culture is an ignorant declining collectivity of unchanging conformity. In
a harmonious collaboration for greater ascendency, the primal basis of existence has
become getting by and the lowest primeval level. And, ‘eval’ is the key ingredient or
closely akin to the complex rubric in human nature, good versus evil. As to the notion of
‘evil’, or ‘eval’ as in primeval, such mirrored reflection is at the core of self-interests.
When you look longing in the mirror, you see the duality of the malicious staring back.
Everyone has that persistent presence of self, each of us know it, few admit it, and some
put the potency into destructive action. Yet, we quickly deny our collusion.
‘Evil’ and ‘eval’ are curious points of pondering. You probably have been in a group
setting, some meeting of a sort, maybe even a ‘faculty meeting’. Well, in the latter
assembly one speculates on the assumption of a more ‘ascended’ group of thinkers. After
all, with the advanced degrees in the room, you might consider that to be true. Do not be
fooled for a second, because seemingly educated smart people act stupidly in many ways.
At any rate, you are in a grouping, and another person projects his or her pretended plea
for wisdom. Immediately, a healthy sense of skeptical inquiry should be invoked.
However, undeterred by the wiser move of thinking before talking, and then keeping
your mouth shut, the “learned” individual speaks. Such as, the might say, if you reverse
the word ‘evil’, you get ‘live’. How trite is that? How completely devoid of any relative
significance to an advanced species, could that apply? Perhaps it is symptomatic of a
devolving species that such nebulous notions appear on bumper stickers. Naturally, this
kind of simplistic assertion proves absolutely nothing, but the lack of alleged
enlightenment on the part of the speaker. It is stupid talk, anti-thinking, and a poorly
constructed assertion that devolves to a fallacy of inference.
From faulty, unevolved and regressive thinking, hasty generalizations foster the
degradation of the species. In addition, if you speak out in favor of ‘eval’, from primeval,
what have you added to the nexus of social regression? You have encouraged the
continual unproductive nature of stupidity. Primeval is prehistoric and archaic, not forget
primitive, rough, crude, and unsophisticated. ‘Eval’ then could be compared to a time
duration sequence of antediluvian unsophistication in supernaturalism. To reverse it, as
so many enjoy with the word ‘evil’, as pretentious contrast to ‘live’, you end up with the
nonsense of “lave”. That might suggest ‘leave’, or ‘residue’.
Perhaps that is a very subtle point; maybe the inference is that it is time for humans
leave. With a murderous sense of self-absorption, contrived perpetrations of selfish
stupidity and visionless conformity to mediocrity, the species encourages self-
destruction. Ethical cowardice shutters in face-to-face confrontation with ideological
extremism. By failing to insist upon evidence over myth, magical thinking blinds the
capacity by which constructive consistency elevates and transforms life cycles. The
demarcation between good and evil is permeable, and malevolence is destructive.
Human demise continues relentless perpetration by infantile thinking processes that
embrace fixations on the supernatural, illusionary and superstitious. More than three-
quarters of the population give unsubstantiated credence to an array of mystical folklore.
Mythology, in lieu of being metaphorically instructive, devolves to the literalism of
philosophical extremes. From facetious thinking processes in arrogant self-deceit, the
manifestations of malevolence abound in myriad social atrocities.
Independence in of individuality toward sophisticated dimensions of enlightened
transformation, fight against the entrenched repressiveness of ignorance, conformity of
herd mentality, and slothful devolution. Instead of heroic quests to ascend and advance
civilized earthly population, where equity, justice and wisdom prevail over selfishness,
the counterproductive opposite is more malignant.
Pretending to know immortality, as though nothing ever ends, while hope springs
eternal, ignores the finite nature of inevitable termination. With a history of exploitation
of people, places and things, the testimony is not that great. Mesmerized by the illicit
proselytizers of magical thinking, many voraciously strive to maintain an ever-increasing
consumption of strained ecosystems, and collapsing social structures.
Whether by some bizarre viral outbreak, biological or nuclear terrorism, or other
contrived disaster of the human origin, global habitats continue to be threatened. By
comparison to post-modern conditions, in the history of previous extinctions, the demise
came in the form of some external catastrophic incident. A meteorite is one example
offered in the case of prehistoric life. Different now from before is the high probability
that humankind, the internal mechanism, brings about finality of human life.
For some, the collision of “doomsday” prophecies and contemporary social
disruptions, which might result in civilization’s collapse, could be referred to as an
“apocalypse effect”. That is, the conditions created and set into motion that brings about
the termination of life as we currently experience it. While the planet has been around for
a long time, odds are the earth will likely outlive us. As a few have suggested, such
deteriorations of human behavior are more a danger to people than the planet.
While there are divergent perspectives on the eventual demise of the human species,
some areas of analysis have come up with a list of several possibilities. These dangers
cover a broad spectrum of human and non-human interactivity. From death by an asteroid
collision, to an uncontrollable worldwide pandemic, there are critical catastrophic costs.
For instance, one source offered twenty ways the end would come. Another research
point of view expanded that number to thirty kinds of calamities.
No one knows for certain, as nobody is privy to any secret knowledge. But, a number
of researchers, scientists and allied investigators, continue to speculate on the eventual
reality. There are serious ramifications with terminal results, by the nature of cause-effect
consequences of careless and greedy global behaviors. In self-righteous haughtiness,
child-like foolishness, and immature indulgences, conceited intentional gullibility for a
never-ending cycle of earthly livability is rapidly growing to a close.
We cover our foolishness with a façade of “intellectual superiority”, pretend we are so
“smart”, and can solve the problems we have never solved. Our masks come in many
variations, from corporate sponsors to political patrons. In the process, for the materiality
of the gain, we overlook evil degradations and wicked degenerations. Whatever the
endgame, the current path does not offer encouraging prospects for the human race. Our
incessant brutality toward others and the environment ought to remind us that human
demise remains a deceptive regression in disguise.
