SMARTTHUMP Fault Location System
Uses live trace to confirm fault
Offers sectionalizing option
Marks distances to cable end and fault
Assures user safety
Has USB interface (for upload and download)
The associated software platform for the SMARTTHUMP also keeps the technician in mind,
guiding the user automatically through the entire fault locating process from confirming fault
to obtaining a distance to pinpointing or even sectionalizing. All that is required from the
technician is acknowledgement of the next step in the test sequence, which is posed by the
software itself. The software will also assist with test result interpretation, and, for the more
experienced operator, allow for custom configuration. And, with the SMART-THUMP, the unit
automatically sets the thump voltage to minimize stress on the cable and runs a safety check to
protect the technician from faulty ground connection.
EZ-THUMP Smart Fault Location System
Focuses on distribution voltage power cables
Works like a thumper
Possesses easy-go automatic sequence
Interprets test results
The new second-generation EZ-THUMP utilizes a microcontroller-based platform for integrated fault location
in URD circuits, which allows the technician to operate the unit from a single rotary turn-and-click knob. The
unit requires no adjustments, making it ideally suited for satellite fault locating for rural or outlying areas
with lesser fault frequency.
The EZ-THUMP uses a live trace to confirm a fault and, additionally, possesses a sectionalizing option and
a DC hipot test with a delta display. Four kV and 12 kV models are available with the EZ-THUMP, which
additionally offers rainproof operation and the option of battery or AC-line use.
EZ-RESTORE OVERDRIVE Fault Locator System
Has back-feed alert
Weighs less than 48.5 lbs
Offers unique USB load
Has trans-flective color LCD
The EZ-RESTORE OVERDRIVE features a 1,100-joule output at 12 kV. A DC
hi-pot output of 12 kV to indicate breakdown voltage is optional with this
unit. Possessing a measuring range up to 25,000 feet, the EZ-RESTORE
OVERDRIVE offers fault-distance accuracy less than 2.5 feet (depending on
displayed range). Additionally, the system allows for computer-controlled
automatic sectionalizing and fault locating with a simple turn and click
operation.
MIG 16-2 Impulse Generator & HV Test System
Is rugged & portable for field use
Offers two-range 8/16 kV & powerful 1500 joules outputs
Allows for HV insulation testing to 20 kV
Offers proof/burn up to 20 kV, 115 mA
The Megger impulse generator (thumper) MIG16-2 is designed to provide quick,
effective, accurate & safe fault location, reducing system outages & customer minutes
lost. The instruments IP64 rating makes it suitable for use in even environmentally
hostile conditions. The MIG16-2 allows the facility to undertake cable testing, including
cable & fault diagnosis & pinpoint fault location using acoustic methods.
Digiphone Plus Pinpointer
Finds the fault with unprecedented accuracy
Offers simple visual directions
Possesses smart background noise reduction
Automatically limits audio volume to 84 decibels
Requires no user adjustments
The Digiphone plus pinpoints underground cable faults with unprecedented
accuracy and sets a new standard by applying innovative audio concepts.
This combination results in a pinpointing device for highresistive faults that is
unsurpassed in sensitivity.
Digiphone plus works off the thunder and lightning principle of fault
location. In the same way you can measure how far away a storm is by
counting the distant between a faster lightning flash and its slower thunder,
this pinpointer works by measuring the energy around an underground fault.
If you think of the flashover at a fault as the lightning, the Digiphone measures
distance by figuring timing between that electromagnetic flash and the
seismic (or acoustic) jolt also created at the moment of flashover.
SG15-1150 M & SG25-1150 M Fault Locating Systems
Focus on URD cables
Are each fully self-contained
Figure fault distance automatically
Bring more power, functionality to fault locating
For customers who need more power and functionality with fault locating, Megger offers the
SG15-1150 M and the SG25-1150 M. These systems are designed for the more frequent and
experienced users. They offer the benefits of fully-functional radar with the additional power
needed to fault locate on any type of distribution system.
Both the SG15 and the SG25 offer 15 kV and 25 kV at 1150 joules and can locate faults on any
URD system. These units feature ARM filters, a switchable capacitor that allows full energy output
at any voltage and a new, 10.5-inch color automatic radar screen. Theyre the smart choice for the
experienced locator.
CI Cable Identifier
Identifies a de-energized primary cable safely
Identifies live secondary cables up to 240 VAC
Avoids false positives
The CI Cable Identifier will safely identify a dead (or de-energized) primary cable
within a group of energized or de-energized cables as well as live secondary cables
(including neutrals) up to 240 VAC (460 optional). The absolute safe identification is
based on polarity and signal magnitude of the DC pulse (up to 100 A) coming from
the transmitter, which is picked up by the receiver and a clip-on probe. The transmitter
can operate on 120 VAC or internal battery (up to 50 hrs run time). The entire system
functions without user adjustments and will, under no circumstances, provide a false
positive identification. The standard combination kit (for HV & LV cables) includes a 6
flexible clip-on probe, and two touch sensors for all your applications where a clip on
cannot be used.
PFL22M1500 Portable Cable Fault Location System
Offers arc reflection method
Offers arc reflection plus
Offers differential arc reflection
Offers impulse current (current impulse)
The PFL22M1500 is a portable, rugged fault locating systems that, like the MIG 16-
2, allows for HV insulation testing to 20 kV; proof/burn up to 20 kV, 115 mA and
8/16 kV, 1500 joules surge outputs. After identifying the type of fault, pre-location
of the fault position can be determined using the methods listed above.
