Writing This half term we will be covering the following literacy units: Significant Author study: Roald Dahl Recount writing Poetry: Poetic Style Pie Corbet Adverts and persuasive writing: Link with Business topic
VCOP (Vocabulary, Conjunctions, Openers and Punctuation) is still an on going theme during Literacy and other lessons.
Grammar and sentence structure are the main focus for us this year encouraging children to use more complicated sentence structures, however, still having control of the sentences . Upleveling

Reading
Guided Reading: focused questions about different areas of reading.
For example: finding information, interpreting, structure of text, writer's viewpoint use of language. forming and expressing opinions and views evaluating the story and characters These are examples of areas that you can focus on with your questionning. Maths The skills the children will be learning are the following: place value, ordering and rounding; using a calculator; understanding longer multiplication and division procedures; mental calculations; fractions, decimals and percentages; handling data and the use of a spreadsheet; classifying shapes and examining spatial relationships and symmetry; measuring area and perimeter; solving word problems; increasing their use and understanding of mathematical language
We will be building upon the work done in the previous term and providing opportunities for children to use and apply their knowledge and methods to solve real life and worded problems. The exercises will be made as practical as possible to engage the children and enable them to make mathematical links with real life situations making it less abstract. Year 5 will continue to set for Maths this term. Would you know if it was happening?
We try to create a trusting and open relationship with the children when they can tell us if anything is wrong. It is also important that your children can talk to you at home if there was a problem.
