Spring 2010 Classes Offer New Opportunities


Advanced Collective Bargaining
Class Day Class Starts Cost $325
Tuesday, 630 pm March 30

Richard Devries, an experienced negotiator for Teamsters Local 705, will teach a six
week class on Advanced Collective Bargaining. Course topics include front loading or
back loading money proposals, use of spread sheets in negotiations, costing out the
contract, and building a total proposal. The class will end with students negotiating a
contract. To enroll in this class, you must have graduated from the three-year labor
leadership program or have extensive negotiating experience.

Know the Other Labor Laws


Class Day Class Starts Cost $325
Tuesday, 630 pm May 11

Labor Education Center Director Emily Rosenberg and Bob Breving will teach a five
week class on various labor laws other than collective bargaining. Class 1- Sexual
Harassment, Class 2- ADA, Class 3 Discrimination other than Sexual Harassment, Class
4- FMLA, and Class 5- OSHA.

Recent Trends in Arbitration Cost $80


Back by popular demand, Union attorney Tom Allison will teach a class on recent trends
in arbitration. The class will analyze a new set of cases. This is not a repeat of the
previous class. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. The class will be held on Thursday,
March 4, 2010 at 630pm.

Introduction to Labor Leadership Cost $650

Tuesday, 630 pm January 12
Students will spend three weeks on effective speaking skills, four weeks on labor law and
four weeks on parliamentary procedure and how to run a union meeting. Instructors are
Bob Breving & Emily Rosenberg.

Advanced Labor Leadership Cost $650


Class Day Class Starts
Tuesday, 630 pm January 12
Class topics include five weeks on labor history, three weeks on politics and three weeks
on interest based bargaining. The instructor is Emily Rosenberg.
Pullman Tour Cost $40
Bob Breving will conduct a four hour tour of the Pullman historical area and describe the
important labor battle of 1894. Cost includes entrance fee to Pullman Museum and
snacks. Please meet at the Florence Hotel (111th and Cottage Grove) on May 15, 2010 at
930 am.

Scholarships are available to cover up to 50% of the cost of the Advanced Labor
Leadership and Introduction to Labor Leadership.
