U.S.-INDIA STRATEGIC DIALOGUE TO TAKE PLACE IN NEW DELHI

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will join Secretary of State John Kerry for the
U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi on 31 July. Secretary Pritzker will lead
discussions aimed at helping strengthen economic ties between the U.S. and India
through collaboration in several key sectors. Their trip will mark the first U.S. Cabinet-
level visit to New Delhi since the new Indian government was elected.

ISLAND DESTINATIONS EYE INDIAN HONEYMOONERS

The honeymoon segment from India is increasingly catching the attention of most of the
National Tourist Offices, especially island destinations such as Fiji, Jamaica and Trinidad
& Tobago, who are going aggressive in the Indian market. “While other islands may
offer sun and sand, Jamaica presents a fantastic diversity of options for couples in
search of rich cultural experiences in addition to a setting of extraordinary beauty.
Trinidad and Tobago, which is still a niche and relatively new destination in the Indian
market, is focusing on promoting diverse products. However, the honeymoon segment
is rapidly seeing an increase in demand and bookings.
Fiji is also witnessing a consistent growth in Indian traffic - a 30 per cent increase in
2013, and the growth largely came from honeymooners and couples.

EMIRATES BRINGS A380 TO INDIAN SKIES

Emirates has commenced its first scheduled Airbus A380 service to India with a daily
flight between Dubai and Mumbai. EK500 took off from Dubai International airport at
21:55 hours on 21 July, arriving at Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport in Mumbai
at 02:30. The return flight EK501 took off from Terminal 2 in Mumbai at 04:30hrs and
arrived back at Emirates Terminal 3 in Dubai, the airline’s home and hub for its
specially designed A380 terminal - Concourse A, at 06.00 hours.

Emirates now has 50 A380s in its fleet of 224 wide-bodied aircraft and is the largest
operator in the world of the double-decker with 90 more on order. Mumbai is the
newest destination on its A380 network, and follows closely on the heels of Kuwait,
which started on 16 July

SIXT RENT-A- CAR OPENS REPRESENTATIVE SALES OFFICE IN INDIA

SIXT Rent a car, one of the world’s largest car rental companies and a leading mobility
service provider, has commissioned AVIAREPS as its Outbound Sales Agent in India. The
SIXT representative office in Mumbai will work closely with the travel trade to offer the
Indian outbound travelers a number of tailor made car rental with attractive schemes
for agencies.

AUSTRALIA RECORDS HIGHEST EVER GROWTH IN MAY 2014

Tourism Australia welcomed 21,700 visitors from India during the month of May 2014,
bringing the total for the five months to May 2014 to 83,450, an increase of 19 per cent
relative to the same period previous year. The Total arrivals for the year ended (YE)
May 2014 were 182,000, an increase of 15 per cent relative to the same period previous
year. Leisure arrivals during this period, however, increased by 26 per cent. This makes
India the 10th largest inbound market for arrivals as at YE May 2014.

In the year ending May 2014, a high proportion of Indian visitors visited Australia for
leisure (120,250). Other visitors visited for business (24,650), education (11,200) and
other purposes (25,900). Leisure visitors are on holiday (41,750) or visiting friends and
relatives (78,500).

MUNICH BULLISH ON INDIA

In an attempt to persuade Indian travellers to visit Munich and thus increase its share of
the Indian outbound pie, Munich Tourist Office (MTO) recently conducted a four-city

roadshow in India. The delegation visited Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi,
and received good response from the travel trade fraternity. MTO also used these
roadshows to showcase their diverse tourism offerings to lure Indian travellers who are
still not familiar with the destination.

QATAR AIRWAYS PLACES AN ORDER FOR 100 BOEING 777-9X

Qatar Airways and Boeing have finalised an order for 50 777-9Xs. The 777X order was
first announced as a commitment at the 2013 Dubai Airshow and was part of the largest
product launch in commercial jetliner history. In addition, Qatar Airways announced a
commitment for 50 additional 777-9X purchase rights which if exercised, could take its
777X order tally to 100 airplanes, valued at around US$ 40 billion at list prices.
Qatar Airways also announced its intent to order four 777 Freighters and options for
four more, with a combined value of around US$ 3 billion at list prices.
The 777-9X will be 12 percent more fuel efficient than any competing airplane. The 777-
8X is 5 per cent more efficient than its competitor at all ranges while providing for new
network opportunities. Design of the 777X is underway and production is set to begin in
2017, with first delivery targeted for 2020. To date, the 777X has accumulated 300
orders and commitments from six customers worldwide.

CATHAY PACIFIC FELICITATED AT SKYTRAX

Cathay Pacific Airways has once again been named “World’s Best Airline” in the annual
Skytrax World Airline Awards. This is the fourth time Cathay Pacific has received the
World’s Best Airline honour. The carrier earlier took the title in 2003, 2005 and 2009.
In the same awards, oneworld was named the World’s Best Airline Alliance for the
second year running, confirming its position as the most highly prized global airline
alliance. Cathay Pacific is a founder member of oneworld.

THAILAND WELCOMES NEARLY 100,000 INDIANS IN MAY

Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism has announced that of 92,389 Indians visited the
destination during May, adding up to 370,209 arrivals in the first five months of the
year.

Qatar Airways has introduced QMICE, a one-stop solution for meeting and incentive
planners and conference organisers who are looking to simplify and streamline their
planning processes while receiving attractive benefits and discounts to help support
their events.

QATAR AIRWAYS STRENGTHENS CHENNAI-USA CONNECTIVITY

Qatar Airways will now offer connectivity from Chennai to seven destinations in USA.
Last month, Qatar Airways increased its footprint in US by launching the maiden voyage
to Miami International Airport. With this new route launch, Qatar Airways became the
first and only airline to offer non-stop service from Middle East to Miami, Florida. Apart
from Miami, the airline currently flies to New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston
and Philadelphia in the United States.

TAJ GROUP SELLS THE BLUE HOTEL, SYDNEY

Samsara Properties, an offshore wholly owned subsidiary of The Indian Hotels
Company Limited (IHCL), recently announced the execution of a share sale deed for the
divestment of 100 per cent of its shareholding in BLUE Sydney, A Taj Hotel, in favour of
Australia Hotels & Properties. The buyer is the Hong Kong based Hind Hotels &

Properties Group, which operates hotels and serviced apartments under the Ovolo
brand. Subject to fulfilment of certain conditions, the transaction is scheduled to be
completed by 31 October 2014. The transaction value is A$ 32 million.

The divestment has been undertaken as part of the Taj Group’s strategy to focus on
markets which are core to Group’s operations, and to create liquidity to fund the
company’s ongoing expansion in such markets. Asia Pacific and particularly China have
been identified as targets for expansion.

SEYCHELLES TO CONDUCT ROADSHOW IN MUMBAI AND NEW DELHI

The Seychelles Tourism Board is set to conduct its first ever roadshow in India to
educate the Indian travel trade community about Seychelles as a tourism destination for
Indian Holiday Makers. This coming roadshow is set to also facilitate interaction
between the Seychelles’ private sector and the Indian travel agents.

INDIGO ANNOUNCES THE INTRODUCTION OF ‘ADVANCE PASS’

IndiGo has become the first airline in India to introduce ‘Advance Pass’ service. Under
the free of charge service, passengers will be checked in and receive the boarding pass
in their mail inbox 48 hours prior to the departure at no extra charges. They will be

required to print the boarding pass before arriving at the airport for a hassle free
experience. However, in case if they are unable to print the pass, they can collect the
boarding pass from the airport by following a regular queue. The passengers can also
drop their bags at the bag drop counters which are available at major airports.

KOREA TOURISM ORGANIZATION HOSTS FAM TRIP

Korea Tourism Organization and Cathay Pacific organised the FAM Trip for the Travel
Agents and media to experience the best of Seoul and Jeju Island. Participants enjoyed
Unique Experiences while staying in resole Island of Jeju and Capital City, Seoul.


LVCVA APPOINTS SARTHA MARKETING AS PR AGENCY IN INDIA

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), the official destination marketing
organisation of Southern Nevada, has announced that Sartha Marketing, their Marketing
Representatives, will now take on an additional role as their Public Relations agency in
India.
The Sartha team will work closely with LVCVA partners to enhance the destination
profile, increase arrivals and repeat visits to Las Vegas and escalate visitor spending
through marketing, promotional and public relations efforts.

ATM HIGHLIGHTS LUXURY TRAVEL & HOSPITALITY

Arabian Travel Market (ATM), which took place on May 5-8, 2014 at the Dubai
International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Dubai, was 7 per cent bigger than the
previous edition and was spread over 23,500 sq mts with 66 country pavilions and
more than 2,500 exhibitors. The show also witnessed the participation of new
destinations such as Taiwan, the Caribbean and Slovenia apart from some new players
and attracted more than 21,000 trade visitors from around the world. India also had a
sizeable presence at ATM 2014.

However, the main take away from the show was the reiteration of the Dubai’s
Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to welcome 20 million
visitors by 2020 and make Dubai the number one visited city in the world.

ETIHAD AIRWAYS PARTNERS WITH GOOGLE TO EASE FLIGHT SEARCH

Etihad Airways has announced a partnership with Google to make it more convenient
for travellers to view the airline’s flight schedules and fares on the search engine’s flight
search tool. Using Flight Search, travellers in the US, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands,
Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Poland and Ireland will be able to explore and compare
flights to and from any of Etihad Airways’ 103 destinations, and view live ticket prices
for more than 1,400 of the airline’s weekly flights.
Once users have selected the flights they want, they can click the “Book” button to
proceed to the Etihad Airways website to purchase their tickets without having to fill in
their flight choices again. Flight Search can be accessed on tablets, smartphones and
desktop computers.

VISITBRITAIN’S GREAT TOURISM WEEK DEBUTS IN INDIA

VisitBritain has commenced its first ever GREAT Tourism Week (GTW) in Kolkata. GTW
is a “mini roadshow” format, B2B engagement platform that will tour nine cities across
India until 29 August, travelling from Kolkata, New Delhi and Chandigarh in the East
and North, to Pune, Ahmedabad and Mumbai in the West and ending in Bengaluru,
Hyderabad and Chennai in the South.

GTW is VisitBritain’s initiative to provide Indian travel agents and tour operators with a
platform to engage and forge business ties with over 15 UK tourism suppliers, such as
British Airways, VisitManchester and Luxury Hotels Group. It will be an opportunity to
promote Britain’s tourism offering and discuss the possibility of developing new
bookable products and packages for the Indian visitor.

CONNECTIVITY WILL BOLSTER EUROPEAN COMPETITIVENESS: IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) called on European governments
and regulators to bolster European competitiveness with measures focusing on
improved global connectivity.
The benefits of connectivity can only be fully realised if airlines—the core of the
aviation value chain—are strong. Europe’s airlines are financially the weakest amongst
the world’s major regions. European airlines are expected to realise a post-tax net profit
of just US$2.8 billion this year, for an average net profit margin of just 1.3 per cent or
just US$3.23 per passenger. By comparison, North American airlines are expected to
earn about US$11.09 per passenger.
LAKE GENEVA REGION TO LAUNCH MOBILE APP

The Lake Geneva Region Tourist Office is launching a new intuitive, intelligent and
innovative mobile app for iOS and Android smartphones. This free tourism promotional

tool offers users customised recommendations sent in real time. The app works as an
interactive guide. By answering the questions regarding the user’s interests, and taking
into account the environmental elements, the app then suggests personal
recommendations for the user.

ETIHAD AND ALITALIA OFFICIAL GLOBAL AIRLINE CARRIERS FOR EXPO 2015

Alitalia, Italy’s leading carrier and a partner of the SkyTeam Alliance, and Etihad
Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, have jointly been named as
Official Global Airline Carriers for Expo 2015.

Expo 2015, the upcoming Universal Exposition will be held in Milan from 1 May to 31
October 2015. An estimated 20 million visitors are expected to attend Expo 2015, of
which approximately 7.6 million will travel to Milan by air, with 1.5 million arriving
from intercontinental destinations, 3.3 million from international destinations and 2.8
million from within Italy.

TAAI PARTICIPATES IN INDIA MARKET SEMINAR

VisitBritain, UKinbound and ETOA hosted their India Market Seminar to grow tourism
from one of Britain’s fastest growing markets last month at Lord’s. In January this year,
European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) signed a MOU with Travel Agents
Association of India (TAAI) to strengthen tourism ties and to maintain a strong B2B
relationship and generate even more tourism business in the years to come.
The seminar at the event looked at the outbound performance of India to UK. Myths
were busted as to how the Indian travel industry works, visa issues, the challenges
working with India market, vis-à-vis, bureaucratic barriers, flight connects, consumer
decisions etc.

JAPAN ISSUES MULTIPLE ENTRY VISAS FOR INDIANS

The Government of Japan has decided to begin issuance of multiple entry visas for
short‐term stay to nationals of India (ordinary passport holders) effective immediately.
The issuance of multiple entry visas for short‐term stay for nationals of India is
expected to help increase the number of Indian tourists to Japan and improve
convenience in business activities, thus further developing bilateral exchanges between
Japan and India.

ROTANA ANNOUNCES ART ROTANA IN BAHRAIN

Rotana has announced the signing of ART Rotana- a 311 room luxury property on the
Amwaj Islands in Bahrain in agreement with Ossis Property Developers. The property is
set to open by the end of this year.


FRENCH MINISTER ANNOUNCES NEW TOURISM MEASURES

On the occasion of his visit to India, Laurent Fabius, Foreign Affairs and International
Development Minister of France, met tourism professionals in Mumbai to promote
France as a preferred tourist destination to Indian visitors. A selection of Indian travel
professionals attended this event, during which the Minister announced new measures
to further boost France's image as a welcoming destination for Indian tourists. First, for
Indian tourists, French visas will be issued within 48 hours as of 1 January 2015; and
second, an official application for smartphones and tablets, has been designed for Indian
tourists travelling to France.

AIRASIA TO RE-ENTER JAPAN’S LOW COST CARRIER MARKET

AirAsia announced that it will be entering into a Shareholders Agreement with Octave
Japan Infrastructure Fund I GK (Octave), Rakuten Inc. (Rakuten), Noevir Holdings Co.
Ltd. (Noevir), and Alpen Co. Ltd. (Alpen) to establish AirAsia Japan.

LORDS HOTELS & RESORTS FORAYS INTO NEPAL

Lords Hotels & Resorts has announced the launch of its first international property in
Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and a major international tourist and pilgrimage
destination. Named Mirage Lords Inn, Kathmandu, the hotel offers best of Indian and
Nepalese hospitality.

The hotel has 48 well furnished rooms, designed to take care of wide and varied needs
of an international traveler. The hotel facilities include a 24 hour multicuisine
restaurant-Blue Coriander, a bar Distil, a banquet to host gathering for up to 250 people
and an exclusive board room for 25 people. It also boasts of all the standard facilities
expected in a property of this stature.

NYC RECORDS SIGNIFICANT RISE IN MICE TRAVEL

The number of meetings and convention delegates traveling to New York City has
increased, with preliminary research showing that delegate visitation is up 5.9 million
in 2013—from 5.6 million in 2012—and delegate spending estimated at $5.0 billion—
up from $4.7 billion in 2012. These figures are made up of domestic visitors traveling 50
miles or more and spending at least one night in the City, plus international delegates.
China, the UK, Japan, France, Germany, Colombia and Brazil are among the top
international markets for delegate travel to New York City.

QATAR AIRWAYS PARTNERS WITH UNITED STATES INDIA EDUCATIONAL
FOUNDATION

Qatar Airways has partnered with United States India Educational Foundation (USIEF)
as the official airline partner for the pre-departure orientation for students who have
applied to US universities for further education. The airline will be participating at the
pre-departure orientation sessions which are organised in seven key cities by USIEF.
Over 2000 students are expected to attend the orientation and will get the opportunity
to interact with USIEF staff and receive complete information about the education
system and culture in the USA.

ETIHAD TAKES DELIVERY OF 100TH AND 101ST AIRCRAFT

Etihad Airways last week celebrated a major milestone as the fastest growing airline in
commercial aviation history, when it took delivery of its 100th and 101st aircraft on the
same day. The 100th aircraft, a new Airbus A321-231, was delivered from the Airbus
Finkenwerder facility in Hamburg. On arrival in Abu Dhabi, the aircraft was welcomed
by over 500 Etihad Airways employees at a specially organised photo-shoot to mark the
occasion.
