,etting Started
To get started we6re going to o!en u! Solid Edge and we want to choose the Tradition
78S) 3etric# 9se this o!tion if your drawing to be created is in metric measurements#
Howe:er if there is no o!tion for that we need to follow these ste!s#
7+ First thing ;lick on Edit ;reate 4!tions
B+ 8e&t you6ll notice a !o! u! window( from here click the browse button
;+ 8ow we want to click on the 3ore Tab and then choose the 7nsi mm Draft#dft then
click ok
D+ 8ow we need to ty!e in a Dis!lay name( so now lets ty!e Traditional 78S) Draft
3etric and now ;lick 7dd( from here you will notice that you created a new line below
with your title a!!earing# 4nce you see this lets click ok#
E+ 8ow you notice the new o!tion below# This is where we6re going to be working in for
the rest of the time#
3aking an 4rthogra!hic Pro"ection
7+ To start off it is easier to make a reference line so hel! make sure your image doesn6t
run into the title in the lower right hand of the !age#
B+ 7t this !oint you see ) went from the title area and made a reference line "ust so you
can see the work area# From here use the line tool and start with your straight lines and
use the length tool to hel! make all your lines accurate
;+ 3aking the to! line of the s5uare you can do a little trick to make the line s5uare by
dragging the line down to the bottom corner as shown#
D+ 4nce you drag the end of the line to the bottom corner you6ll notice a reference line is
created to make the sha!e of the bo& as shown below# This way you sa:e time from
entering in the length for e:ery line if your making a s5uare or a rectangle#
E+ 8ow from the bottom left corner drag your line to the to! edge and finish the s5uare
F+ 8otice the three highlighted areas( to make the second bo& at the right measurements
make a line that6s *%mm from the lower left corner going along the line towards the right#
This will now be your reference !oint to make your inner s5uare \$%mm high and across#
,+ From here continue to finish the s5uare by making the last line connecting down
towards the bottom of the s5uare( you6ll notice the lower line goes red once the
intersecting line is !arallel#
H+ 8ow you ha:e your front :iew created you can start with the right side :iew# 8ow we
need to make a hidden reference line as a guide for e5ual distance between the front( right
and to! :iews# 4nce that is created draw a normal line from the reference line and bring
u! until you notice the reference line#
)+ 8e&t com!lete the outside of the right side bring your cursor from the to! of the little
s5uare and drag it to the right side of the right :iew and you6ll notice behind the cursor
the reference line( this will allow you to draw the to! of the little s5uare#
J+ 4nce you ha:e your reference line you can finish the \$%mm s5uare# 8ow you can
make a hidden line from the u!!er right corner of the front :iew make a '. degree line
and make it long enough so you get a reference line that connects to the lower right side
of the right :iew#
<+ 4nce your hidden reference line is created make another hidden line that goes from
the to! of the '. degree angle line all the way across to the left( you6ll notice when your
far enough because you6ll find another reference line as highlighted below
=+ ;ontinue to make hidden reference lines as you would normally for any hand drafting
!ro"ection#
3+ 8ow use a normal line to draw o:er to! the hidden reference line and "ust start
making the sha!e( you6ll notice the interesting lines will be highlighted red to make
drawing accurately easier
8+ 8ow your finished !ro"ection should look similar to this#
3aking an 4bli5ue Pro"ection
7+ First start off by making the front of the ob"ect by making a s5uare \$%mm & \$%mm
and then from the lower right hand corner draw a \$%mm line at a '. degree angle
B+ ;ontinue to make \$ more lines from each corner at a '. degree angle#
;+ 4nce you finish all the angled lines( connect them all together to get the desired
sha!e of the smaller s5uare#
D+ To make :isuali>ation easier( start off with a hidden line from the lower left hand
corner at a '. degree angle at \$%mm# then connect that hidden line with another to the
rear left to! corner of the s5uare( and another line from the rear right lower corner to the
middle( 8ow you ha:e a D image of the s5uare you can make your *%mm hidden line
coming from the rear lower right corner#
E+ 8ow make the front :iew of the larger s5uare using hidden lines to make sure it6s the
right sha!e and all you lines are connecting where they need to be#
F+ ?ou can now start filling in the hidden lines with normal lines so that the normal lines
connect e&actly where they need to#
,+ 8ow that we ha:e the front face drawn in with normal lines we can start to com!lete
the s5uare "ust as we did with the smaller one and draw three lines from each corner out
at a '. degree angle#

H+ 4nce you ha:e your three lines at a '. degree angle drawn you can com!lete the
sha!e "ust as we did with the smaller one#
)+ 8ow we can use the select tool and where e:er we drew a hidden line select them and
start to delete them#
J+ Finished Pro"ection
3aking an )sometric Pro"ection
7+ First thing we need to do is create the first line at % degrees#
B+ 8ow finish the front face by making the two :ertical lines at \$%mm and 2% degrees
and then "oin the two sides with the to! hori>ontal line#
;+ 4nce the front face is com!lete( where e:er there is a corner draw the three lines at
*.% degrees# Then connect all the lines together to get the front block#
D+ 4nce the sha!e is created draw a line from the lower right front face and draw it at a
*.% degree angle back and then connect that line with the two other corners# 4nce that is
made you can draw the *%mm line out from the rear left corner#
Tools E&!lained
7+ How to make a straight line First off select the line tool as highlighted below# Start
by clicking at your start !oint then on the left side of the screen you will notice two areas
where you can fill out( length and angle( this is where you can make e&act lengths and
angles#
B+ Same as before "ust you notice the angle isn6t at 2% but at 1#01 degrees which gi:es
you an angled line#
;+ 3aking Hidden =ines in the dro! down menu where it says normal there are many
o!tions( normally for basic drafting you will use normal or hidden lines# To make a
hidden line sim!ly choose the line tool and then choose hidden in the dro! down menu
D+ 3aking =ines Parallel First start off with a line( then select the line tool and without
clicking mo:e your cursor o:er either of the edge of the line( and then drag the cursor u!(
once you ha:e the selected distance you can click and drag the cursor to the other edge(
E+ ?ou will notice once you bring the line to the other edge that another reference line
a!!ears( this means the two edges line u! !erfectly( you can now click the cursor again
and now you ha:e two !arallel lines#
F+ ;onnecting =ines )f we ha:e two !arallel lines( we sim!ly select the line tool( click
the mouse at one edge of line( then drag the line to the other line you with to connect
with( you will notice these lines will turn red as seen below# 4nce this ) seen click the
cursor again
,+ Smart Dimension Tool This tool allows you to dimension a line from edge to edge
:ery easily# Sim!ly select the smart dimension tool and then click on the line you with to
dimension( then drag where you wish the dimension to a!!ear and then let go of the
cursor and its finished#
H+ ;orner 7ngle To get the angle dimension select the angle dimension tool
highlighted below ne&t to the smart dimension( then where shown below click where you
wish to dimension from#
)+ Point to Point Dimension Tool )f you wish to dimension only a certain area that
isn6t a full line( select the !oint to !oint dimensioning tool highlighted below and then
take your cursor and select where you wish to start your dimension( then click where you
wish to finish and this will bring the dimension dro! down( sim!ly click to finish#
J+ Different Widths of lines To make the normal or hidden line thinner or thicker
choose the line width button on the left and it will bring a dro! down menu where you
can ty!e your desired width as highlighted below#
<+ 8otice the different widths below
7+ 7fter o!ening the Traditional 78S) block click on the :iew tab at the to! of the !age#
B+ )n the :iew tab click on the background selection#
;+ Then at the bottom of the !age you will notice different tabs( choose the 7@Sheet
D+ To make the !age fit the screen click on the fit screen button highlighted at the bottom
of the screen#
E+ 8ow choose the select tool and delete the entire to! right hand area# ;lick on the line
or te&t you wish to delete and !ress delete on the keyboard#
F+ =ines and te&t you click on highlight in !ink as shown below#
,+ 7fter deleting all the other lines( your left with two long lines( and as we want to kee!
the solid edge title area we need to re@si>e the long times#
H+ Sim!ly ;lick on one edge of the long line and bring it back to the corner# 4nce you
get close you can click the >oom button highlighted below for a more accurate corner#
)+ 4nce we Finish with the Title Block sa:e this as it will be used for e:ery future
!ro"ection#
