Partners and Accreditation
Not only are we accredited by key industry bodies,
we’re actively engaged with them – putting us at
the forefront of good standards of practice.
Our expertise and high standards are reflected in our prestigious
accreditations and key industry partners. World Challenge was the first , and
remains one of the very few providers of school overseas expeditions to hold
the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge and at the same
time be externally assessed as compliant to BS8848, showing good safety
practice. We remain actively engaged with the development of both
standards, ensuring World Challenge is at the heart of ensuring quality and
safety on overseas expeditions.
British Safety Council International Safety Award
2014 (Merit)
World Challenge holds an International Safety Award for 2014 with Merit
from the British Safety Council.
The International Safety Awards scheme is open to UK and international
organisations of all sizes across all industries and seeks to promote high
standards of health and safety management practice in order to prevent
workplace injury and ill health.
The winning organisations span all sectors from the United Kingdom, Africa,
Asia, the Middle East and the West Indies.
Compliant with British Standard 8848
BS 8848 is the British Standard for organising and managing visits,
fieldwork, expeditions, and adventurous activities outside the UK.
Expeditions provided by World Challenge have been independently verified
as compliant with BS 8848 by the Young Explorers’ Trust , which carries out
a detailed audit of our operating procedures and safety management

Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge
World Challenge holds a prestigious Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC)
Quality Badge, specifically designed for overseas expeditions. The nationally
recognised badge is designed to bring together all existing safety and
quality badges into one easily identifiable mark of high standards. It is only
awarded after a rigorous external assessment , which assures our customers
that we actually do what we say we do.

To achieve the LOtC Quality Badge, World Challenge has shown that we
meet six quality indicators:

1. Having a process in place to help users plan the learning experience
2. Providing accurate information about our offer
3. Providing activities, experience or resources that meet learner needs
4. Reviewing the experience and acting on feedback
5. Meeting the needs of the users
6. Having safety management systems in place to manage risk effectively

Expedition Providers’ Association
World Challenge is a full member of the EPA – a membership organisation
for the overseas youth expedition sector, and the awarding body for the
Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) badge. This puts World Challenge at
the heart of a network of industry professionals available for consultation
on a wide range of issues in the field. As members we agree to abide by the
EPA Code of Practice. Global Programmes Director, Pat Milston, is currently
Vice Chair of the EPA and sits on its working party to review all industry
operating practices through a revision of the EPA Standard.
ASDAN Registered Centre
We are a registered ASDAN moderating centre, offering both the ASDAN
Universities Award and the potential for Challengers on longer expeditions
to attain 70 UCAS points by achieving CoPE Level 3. We advise the team on
what to put in their portfolio, provide access to relevant information online
and also help moderate portfolios, taking the burden away from the School
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Approved Activity
We are an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award,
which allows Challengers to accredit their expedition towards a Gold DofE
Award. A number of World Challenge outdoor expeditions have been
approved by the DofE for this purpose, so you can be sure the expedition
programme ticks all the 20 conditions specified by its expedition section.
Institute for Outdoor Learning
World Challenge is an organisational member of the Institute for Outdoor
Learning (IOL), which encourages, supports and enhances good practice in
the sector. World Challenge is involved in IOL’s work representing and
lobbying on behalf of members to ensure the development and progression
of outdoor learning.
AQA Baccalaureate
The AQA Bacc is an exciting qualification that adds value to students' core
A-level subjects through broader study, the Extended Project Qualification
and enrichment activities. Some World Challenge pursuits are suitable for
the enrichment element of the AQA Bacc. Students can demonstrate their
academic abilities, their commitment to their chosen field of study and skills
such as teamwork, initiative, perseverance and leadership – all important for
higher education and employment .
All World Challenge expeditions are fully bonded by the ABTA – the UK
travel trade association, ATOL – the Air Travel Organisers’ Licence, and IATA
– the International Air Transport Association, ensuring good standards of
practice and bringing customers financial protection against unforeseen
