Election Season Kicks Off - Notable Anti 2A Candidates Defeated

By Mike Sweeney
September 16, 2014
Primary Election Run on Freedom Restriction and LOSE.
The election season is officially off
and running after last Tuesdays
Primary Election kicked voters,
candidates and of course the television ads into gear. Needless to
say were are set up for some rather interesting races in Novembers
General Election.
Among the notable primary races
we had Coakley v. Grossman for
Governor and Healey v. Tolman
for Attorney General, both running
on the Democrat ticket. Interestingly enough, the person that lost
each of those races had the most
offensive message when it came
to attacking our freedom. Tolman
ran on a message of taking on the
NRA and a push for smart gun
technology for all new firearms.

Will we see a major change in the MA Legislature come Winter 2015? Only time will
tell. The General Election is November 4, 2014.

Many of his statements sounded

like precursors for outright gun
confiscation. Steve Grossman was
just as aggressive in his campaign
to restrict our freedom, trying to
paint A.G. Coakley as being for
the NRA (laughable) and pushing for magazine bans, semi-auto

rifle bans, and of course one gun a

month, all of which he called reasonable.
Former State Senator Warren Tolman lost in a landslide to Maura
Healey and State Treasurer Steve
Grossman lost in a tight battle to

perennially bad candidate A.G.

Martha Coakley. Their losing bids
to restrict freedom came as no
surprise to us; weve seen a steady
shift in public sentiment towards
restoring freedom in the Commonwealth. Our legislature took
note of this movement when their
phone lines melted down and their
inboxes were crashed after introducing the first draft of Speaker
DeLeos bill and now, in the first
election since, voting results have
reflected that sentiment. We were
glad to see each of them go home
with a loss, hopefully they dont
come back.
On the Republican ticket we had
a notable governors race with Tea

Natick Town Officials Push Rights Ban - Then Back Down - Action Still Needed
History of the situation:

the situation has evolved.

Gun Owners Action League is the official state firearms association in
Massachusetts. We are an association of law-abiding citizens who believe in the basic right of firearms ownership for competition, recreation
and self-protection.
GOAL works hard to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights against
those in Massachusetts who wish to infringe upon the freedoms guaranteed by our forefathers. The programs sponsored and developed by
Gun Owners Action League are supported by competitors, sportsmen,
recreational shooters and law enforcement throughout the state.
We were formed in 1974 to protect the right to keep and bear arms for
lawful purposes in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are recognized as the states premier gun rights association.
Why You Should Join GOAL
Every intrusion on our gun rights is an intrusion on all rights. The Constitutional rights and freedoms that you enjoy - and may take for granted - are becoming more fragile each day. Secure your rights for yourself,
your family and future generations. Join GOAL and become part of the
solution today.
Gun Owners Action League is a grassroots organization whose members actively participate in the many facets of protecting our Second
Amendment rights and passing on the shooting sports traditions.

Pepper Spray Law Change
With the passage of the newest gun
laws finally comes some relief for
those adults wishing to carry pepper spray without having to acquire
a license. As important as the law
change is for Massachusetts residents, it is perhaps even more so for
non-residents.
Prior to the new law passing, anyone
from outside the state would actually
have to get a non-resident License to
Carry. Under the Deval Patrick administration these licenses were difficult
to come by as people were forced to
schedule a face to face interview with
the Firearms Record Bureau. The licenses were also $100 per year making it a financial burden for many.

for people who are ineligible to

carry the spray, but it is unclear
how these would be enforced
since no background check is
mandated.
Anyone aged 15 17 wishing
to purchase, possess and carry
pepper spray must still obtain
an FID Card.
A license to sell ammunition under Chapter 140, Section 122B
is still required to sell the items.
Of course this means the place
to purchase it in Massachusetts
is through one of these licensed
retailers. Keep in mind that
most states sell these products
over the counter and it is perfectly legal to purchase out of
state. (Most sellers will not ship
pepper spray through the mail.)

Hunting Season Approaches

Another good tip is to not have

the gun in plain sight. If you have
a trunk in your vehicle, that is a
preferred place to put it. This tip is
not only to deter theft, but as Massachusetts is so socially immature
when it comes to guns, this may
save you a lot of heartburn dealing
with nannystaters.

The days get shorter and cooler it is a clear sign that hunting seasons are fast approaching. As with

Smart Gun - Dumb Idea - Some Real Info About Smart Guns and Those Who Push Them In the Name of Safety
Some quick facts about smart
gun tech that some MA candidates are running in favor of.
First, it should be noted that this
technology will only endanger law
abiding gun owners. Ask yourself,
if this tech is so good, why arent
the military and law enforcement agencies already using it?
Shouldnt they lead the way?
Second, this tech only allows firing
from one hand. What if a person
is injured while trying to defend
themselves from attack and had
to switch hands, or even fingers on
the same hand?
Third, anyone whos tried, unsuccessfully, to swipe their iPhone
to activate it and had to repeat
the process numerous times will
understand that this technology

1800 2100, MR

Membership Brian Frappier

Membership stands at 785 members, which
breaks down to 57 Life, 724 Regular, 1 Junior
and 2 Honorary and 1 Knox Box.
Not included in the 785 are 12 Life Members
who have not renewed yet and 1 member who
has taken a Leave of Absence.
We still have 7 members who have paid for
their fobs, but havent picked them up and 30
members who havent paid for their fobs.
The next New Member Orientation will take
place in April 2015, if we have openings. Anyone interested in membership should send
in a signed and dated application for Membership. When received, the name will be
added to the list for the Orientation according
to when it was received. We already have 24
people on the wait list.
It has been determined by the E-Board that
there will be no increases in the cost of renewals for 2015.
It also has been determined that we will have
no new hard keys issued for the gate and if
the new gate is not ready, then we will use the
hard keys issued for 2014.
~~~ VERY IMPORTANT ~~~
THE RENEWAL CUTOFF DATE WILL BE MIDNIGHT, APRIL 2, 2014. THERE WILL BE NO
GRACE PERIOD. THE RENEWAL NOTICES WILL
GO OUT AT THE BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER,
SO THAT GIVES EVERYONE FIVE MONTHS TO
RENEW HIS/HER MEMBERSHIP. The only exceptions to this cutoff date are the Life Members, who will not be dropped from Membership, but who will have their fobs deactivated
until their paperwork is received.
an update of Chapter 284 of the Acts of 2014.
A Member stated his dissatisfaction with
GOAL, as well as with certain persons who are
running for office. A discussion was held regarding GOAL, NRA and Massachusetts State
elected politicians.
Bill was asked if the Steel Plate Challenge
schedule could be added to the Club website.
Currently, the information is only on its own
website
Mike, the Raffle Guy Mike Burchman
Participation this year is about the same as
last year. The summer months tend to see
lower attendance. In the September through
November time period the Shoots normally
experience an increase in the number of
shooters.
The match winners are: Wil Cournoyer for the
first and third matches and Nigel Cunningham
for the second match.
The next pin shoot is Sunday, September 28th.
Registration starts at noon, with first shots at
12:30 pm. The next matches after that are October 26 and November 23rd. Pin shoots are
open to both Club and non-Club Members.
IDPA and Steel Plate Challenge Al Bonofiglio
for (Bill and Mike)
Bill Thorpe and Mike French couldnt make it
to tonights meeting. Al reported that both
those functions are going extremely well. Participation has been good and is increasing.
Member questions Member asked if any thought has been given
to creating a two-tiered Membership system?
The new members are charged a one time
Capital Improvement fee when voted into the
Club. Renewing members are charged a reduced rate.
E-Board response We are looking at reducing the amount charged.
However, the bulk of the money that was used
to build the new Clubhouse came in when we
raised the maximum number of Members allowed.
OLD BUSINESS
Gate Al Bonofiglio
Al asked Tim Graves to send out requests for
quotes to fencing companies. Two of those
companies are preparing quotes for both lift
and swing type gates.
We would like to at least get all the initial work
done this Fall, so the gate can be installed first
thing in the Spring before renewal season.
A member asked as to whether the gate would
still operate should there be a power outage?
Al - We are working to get all the safety features we could possibly need.
A week or so ago the Club experienced a lightning strike, which blew out our Security panel
and took out the magnetic lock on the door
downstairs. Al has talked to Tim about the issue and there is an electrician is working on a
surge suppression system for the Club.
The cost to repair is $1,327.00 total to replace
the complete panel and another $285.00, plus
labor and tax to put the mag lock on the door.
We have an $1,000.00 deductible, so its not
worth putting in a claim to the insurance company.
Member Question Have you looked into installing a lightning rod? Al the electrician
will tell us if a lightning rod would help.
NEW BUSINESS
Motion to Amend the Outdoor Range Rules
Tom LaRoche
Tom moved to amend the outdoor range rules
by inserting new rules 1a and 1b as follows:
1.a. The Sunday and Holiday shooting restriction shall not apply to archery
tion by changing 1.b. to 1.c. and by making
1.b. use of explosive charges will not be allowed at any time
Motion seconded. Original motion has been
amended.
Motion to amend Outdoor Range Rules
passed.
WPRC signage
Tom made a motion to spend a sum of money
not to exceed $2,500.00 to replace the sign on
the building as well as the street sign. Motion
was seconded.
Discussion
E-Board knew that the sign on the building
would be temporary, but had not thought that
it would need to be replaced so soon.
Tom did some research and discovered that
we do need a building permit from the Town,
but that as long as the new sign is the same
size as we currently have there wont be a
problem in acquiring the permit.
Motion was voted on and approved.
Expenditures Al explained to the membership that the money that comes into the Club is to be used to improve the Club for all the Members. Granted a
sign isnt a huge improvement, but they need
to be changed. Other expenditures, such as
the walkway, the drainage, the concrete wall
to protect the shooters on the pistol range.
These things are being done for the Members
of the Club. We are working to make this Club
as good as it can be.
Future improvements will be the new gate,
new shooting stands and new pavement on
the parking lot.
Member request Would it be possible to put
some more ashtrays on the outdoor range?
Yes, we will get a couple more out there.
Member request Would it be possible to get
a First Aid Kit inside the Clubhouse? Yes
Member question You mentioned paving the
parking lot, but is there any thought to expand
it? No, there is no way for it to be expanded.
We have wetlands down here and we dont
own the land on either side of the driveway.
We do know that parking is an issue.
Member question
Only place to shoot 17 hrm rimfire can only be
shot on the rifle range? Why cant 17 be shot
on pistol range if a 22 rifle is allowed there?
Because the muzzle velocity is different. Tom
asked Ann to make a note for the E-Board to
look into this?
Sign-in Book Mike Burchman
Please make sure that everyone signs in. If
you see that there are more people here than
are signatures in the book, talk to the people
on the Range. We need to have everyone sign
in for liability reasons.
