DEFINITION OF ISLAMIC PHILOSOPHY


AL- KINDI :
Philosophy consist of 3 aspects :
1. physics-based on material things
2. Mathematics- arithmatic and astronomy
3. Attributes of God - not concerned ith
material thing at all
AL-FARABI:
Philosophy can be seen angles :
1. Theory : - Knowledge about existing thing.
eg-physics,metaphysisc and so on
2. Practice - Knowledge about things that
exist in actions, eg-ethics, philosophy of
politic & so on..
IBN SINA:
Philosophy can be catogorised into two types of knowledge:
•Revelation of God delivered through messengers;
•The Hereafter - Since the physical body will be lifeless, it is teh
everlasting soul which will experience torture of happiness

CONCEPT OF EDUCATION
From the islamic perspective , education is defined as :
“.. a continues process that nurtures the natural potentials of human beings from the intellevtual ,
behavioural, spiritual and physical aspects in an integrated and balanced manner so as to produce
righteous human beings who will bring goodness to this world and the hereafter”.

GOALS OF ISLAMIC EDUCATION
To shape and develop human beings to become knowledgeable, faithful and trustworthy,
righteous and noble Muslims in addition to being responsible as god-loving and god-fearing
followers and Caliphs of Allah (grounded in the Holy Quran and sunnah)

To produce human beings who are obedient who are obedient to Allah, Live in peace and
harmony in society and so enjoy tranquility and protection in the hereafter

Biography
•Name: Abu Al walid Muhammad Bin ahmad bin Muhammad Bin Ahmad bin
Ahmad bin Ahmad Bin Rushd
•Referred as “Pendita Abu Al Walid” and Known as ‘Averroes’
•Born in Cordova, Andalusia or Spain during the Dark ages (early Middle
Ages roughly between 476 – 1000 AD)
•Educated in Cordova specializing in Islamic Laws and Medicine
contribution
•Study and screen through Aristotle’s works
•Provides good ideas in philosophy and Islamic field, and also
Islamic legislation
•Came out with many far more extensive and concrete ideas in
medical field, metaphysics, and philosophy to be compared to
philosophers who have lived before and after him.
•His works still being used as important reference materials for
western researchers.
IBN RUSHD's words
•Kulliyah Fit- Thibb - contains 16 volumes about general medicine
•Foundations of Philosophy (Mabadil Falsafah)
•Tafsir Urjuza - concern medicine and the basis of Islam –confirming the
Oneness of Allah(tauhid) known as Taslul
•Kashful Adillah- Concerns logic or philosophy as well as questions on
religion
•Tahafatul Tahafut- A review of Imam Al-Ghazali’s book entitled
Tahafatul Falaisafah
•Muwafaqatil Hikmah Wal Syari’a – Explains the similarities between
philosophy and religion

•Born In Tus, Khorasan, Iran In 1058
•Appointed as a professor in Baghdad
•Left Baghdad in 1095 and returned to Tus

•Produced more than 400 literary works in various disciplines such as
theology, philosophy, science and Sufism
