INTRODUCTION

A school is an institution designed for the teaching of
students (pupils) under the direction of teachers. School is a unit
of society. Most countries have system of formal education which
is commonly compulsory. There are also non-government schools
called private schools. In ancient India schools were in the form
of Gurukula. The number, types and levels of educational
institutions that may develop in a community depends upon its
population size. Eg., a big city has government as well as private
primary schools, they may be run by Christian missionaries or by
other private trusts, there may be boys , girls or co-educational
schools. There may be regional as well as English medium
schools.

Community includes local Government agencies
civic organizations and all the residents. They are highly
motivated to participate in the school activities and projects that
will likewise redound to uplifting of the moral and quality of life in
their own locality. Rs a Some western studies have revealed that
in larger communities students are much less acquainted with
neighborhood and its activities and participate mush less in
community activities, where students in small communities are
more conversant with neighborhood and its activities and
participate much more in community activities.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY

Community plays its role in the matters of education
in two ways. It cultivate in its members a favorable or
unfavorable attitude towards education and thus indirectly
becomes helpful or obstructive to the development of education
of its members. Secondly, whether educational institutions will
come into existence in the community or not, what type of
educational institutions will come up what will be their quality –
all these depend on the economic condition of the community , its
social leadership and its attitude and values , the educational
aspirations of its members etc.. Thus the local community has an
important role in the development or non- development of
educational institutions in it.

TEACHER – PARENT RELATIONSHIP

The community size influences teacher- student,
teacher parent relationships. Larger the community greater is the
distance from which teachers and students daily commute to
school. Some teachers and students commute daily even from
nearby villages. As more time is spend on committing from
distance teachers and students have less time for developing
mutual contacts and relationships. Many teachers remain
ignorant of student’s socio economic backgrounds. It also
reduces many parents opportunities to contact teachers. Besides
in large communities, mutual relationships between its members
are generally impersonal, indirect and casual. This also influences
teacher student and teacher parents relationships. As compared
to large communities, in towns and villages teachers have more
contact with their students and are better acquainted with their
parents and their socio-economic backgrounds. Teachers lesser
or greater contacts and relationships with their students and
parents not only decrease or increase students commitment to
their role and to school but they also play an important role in
decreasing or increasing their educational achievement .

IMPACT OF EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM ON COMMUNITY

Just as community influences its educational system, the
educational system influences the community. If educational
institutions are located in a community the money spend on
education largely remains within the community. The
government grant received by educational institutions is also
spent in the community. In this way, the community gets
benefited economically. Thus on the whole, location of
educational institutions within the community helps the
development of community.

Examples:
 During natural calamities such as famine, flood, earthquake
etc teachers can provide leadership to students and
community and be helpful to them in their efforts to raise
funds and provide help to victims. They can participate in
planning and execution of student labour camps, illiteracy
irradication programmes of health and hygiene, sports and
cultural activities etc. they can also be helpful in locating
community problems and understanding them properly.

 Educational institutions helps to spread new ideas, values and
behavior etc which students imbibe from the curricular and
co-curricular activities as well as from their interaction with
teachers and other students, spreads over their families also.

GBHSS Adoor conducted a mosquito reduction programme, the modus
operandi for this programme was;
1. They had prepared a notice regarding the programme inorder to
convey the information.
2. Then they prepared a questionnaire inorder to collect necessary
information regarding the deceases caused due to mosquito bites.
3. The students collected necessary information from the
households which involves details of the deceases which they had
to suffer.
4. Then the students along with the teachers take necessary steps to
distruct the mosquitos from the locality.
5. Then they conduct an awareness programme regarding these
deceases and its prevention.

CONCLUSION
In a community school the institution works sincerely for the society
and the society work for the institution.
