MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGH

September is School Attendance Awareness Month. It has been
designated as such because attending school regularly is one
way to help youngsters achieve academic success. Attendance
is so important to students success that we at Beagle recognize
students each month who have outstanding attendance!
Included in todays newsletter is a report to parents from the
National Association of Elementary School Principals. In it,
NAESP recommends making school a priority and scheduling
wisely. It is imperative that students get into good habits at an
early age, and we are counting on you to partner with us to send
the message that school is important. Avoid tardies and early
pick-ups unless absolutely necessary, as they can inadvertently
send the message that learning is not a high priority.
With our new two-hour delayed starts occurring
monthly, I encourage you to make routine appointments
for those mornings, when possible.

Our Fun Run is quickly approaching, and it looks like
many students have earned enough money to participate
in taping me to a wall in the gymnasium. They are quite
excited about it! Please keep those pledges coming!
Our PTO uses those funds to support academics, field
trips, and our peaceful playground and PBIS initiatives.

Parents and loved ones who are coming into the building
to pick up students at the end of the day, we ask that you
wait near or in the cafeteria. Our instructional time is
very precious, and having loved ones stand and wait just
outside of classrooms is distracting to the students in
class that are trying to learn. Thank you for your help in
enhancing our learning environment!

This Saturday is our rescheduled playground painting.
Please come join us! We plan to be painting from 9:00-
2:00, but may finish earlier if we have enough help.
Remember, many hands make light work! Thank you in
advance for your time and effort.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to
discuss any concerns, please contact me.
Mrs. Dawn Kennaugh, Principal

COUNSELORS CORNER
~ Sandy Husted ~

The Three Rs of School Success
The new school year is in full swing! You can help make it a
successful one by setting the stage for learning. Share these
three Rs with your child: readiness, routines, and responsibility.
Readiness
Ensure that your child goes to school ready to learn every
day:
Speak positively to your child about school and the
teachers. Your attitude toward learning will send a
powerful message to your child.
Make sure that your child gets at least eight to ten
hours of sleep so they will feel rested and alert.
Routines
Develop simple routines for smooth, stress-free mornings:
Help your child pick out an outfit and pack their lunch
in the evening. Have them put everything they will
need for school in a special grabngo corner.
Together create a regular morning routine. For
example, you might make your bed while your child
gets dressed. Then, you can both eat breakfast together.
Responsibility
Teach your child responsibility by helping them get organized:
Make sure your child has a planner for writing down
assignments and due dates or they bring their special
folders home on a regular basis. Use a calendar at
home to mark special dates.
Make sure you and your child go through school work
and do a backpack check on a daily basis. Use in and
out boxes. Have your child put homework
assignments in the inbox. When work is completed or
forms are signed, put them in the out box after you
have looked them over. Then your child can put
completed assignments in their back pack.
Schoolwork is #1. Select a piece of work to display on
the fridge or a bulletin board on a weekly basis.

MEDICAL ALERT!
When your student hands in a yellow emergency card and it's
noted that there is a medical condition (Asthma, Life
threatening allergy) with no rescue medication in the office, 911
will be called in the event of an emergency. It is
recommended that rescue medication be kept in the school
office or be self-carried/self-administered by the student. The
prescription medication authorization form (including the self-
carry/self-administer form) must be signed by parent/guardian
& physician, and non-prescription medication authorization
form must be signed by parent/guardian. These can be found
online at glcomets.net under Parent/Student Resource
and then under School Health Information and Forms.
In addition, Asthma Action Plans and Allergy Action
Plans must also be on file for any student with rescue
medication at school (ie. Epinephrine auto-injectors or
inhalers) with a parent/guardian and physician signature.
Medication forms and Actions plans must be updated
yearly.
