Gooddesignisaccessibledesign.ThisisthebasisfortheprinciplesofUniversalDesign(UD).
Fromtheneedtokeeptoddlersfromfallingontothesharpcornersoffurniture,totheneedfor
readingglassestomitigateagerelatedeyechanges,ourperceptionsoftheworldandtheway
thatweinteractwithitchangeconstantlyoverourlifetimes.Theabilitytosuccessfullynavigate
anenvironmenthasanhugeimpactonoursenseofcontrolandourwellbeing.Anenvironment
thatisfreeofbarriersisalsoaestheticallypleasing.

UniversalDesignforLearning(UDL)appliestheprinciplesofuniversaldesigntothelearning
environment.Accessmustbeintegratedintothedesignofcurriculumsfromthebeginning.
Barriersthatneverexistedneverneedtobemitigated.Itisimportantthataccessisprovidednot
onlytoinformationbutalsotoallaspectsoflearning.

WheneverpossibleFairStudiowillfollowSection508standardsusingtheWebContent
AccessibilityGuidelines2.0toapplythe7principlesofUDLintothelearningenvironmentand
materialsofFairStudiointhefollowingways:

1. InclusivenessFairStudiowillmakeeveryefforttomakeitsservicesavailabletoall
studentswhoarewillingmakethecommitmentnecessarytobeapartofourlearning
community.Everymemberofthestudioisafullmembernomattertheageorability.
Contactinformationforquestionsorconcernsregardingdisabilityrelatedaccommodations
andotherspeciallearningneedswillbepublishedonthewebsiteandmadeavailabletoall.

2. PhysicalAccessFairStudioiscommittedtoprovidinganaccessiblelearning
environmentforpersonswithdisabilitiesthroughtheidentificationandeliminationof
physicalbarriersbothintheprivatestudiosettingandonthestudioswebsite.Sincethe
studioservesastudentbodythatrangesinagefrom7toadult,accommodationforsizeand
varyingabilityisaninherentpartofwhatwedo.Everyeffortwillbemadetoprovideany
additionalaccommodationsthatmaybeneeded.Thewebsitewillbedesignedtobefully
switchandkeyboardaccessible.

3. DeliveryMethodsItisthenatureofprivateinstructiontodelivermaterialsusing
multimodalmethods(auditory,visual,tactile),todevelopthebestpathwaystoimprove
knowledgeandskillforeachlearner.RemotesessionsconductedviaSkypeorothershared
onlineenvironmentsessionswillincludetextandvisualcommunication,andshared
whiteboards.Wheneverpossible,contentonFairStudio.comwillbepresentedwithmultiple
meansofrepresentationallowingtheusertocustomizethedisplayandprovideauditoryand
visualoptions.

4. InformationAccessMaterialswillbecustomizedtomakethemaccessibletoalllearners.
Thewebsitewillbedesignedinawaythatisconsistinformandflowslogicallyforallusers.
Allwebsitecontentwillbemadeasbroadlyaccessibleaspossibleincludingalternatetextfor
graphs,closedcaptioningforvideos,andelectronicformsforworksheets.

5. InteractionTheprivateteachingenvironmentallowsforconstantgiveandtakebetween
instructorandstudent,anditisbyitsverynaturecustomizedtothestudentsneeds.The
websitedesignwillhaveareliable,logicallayoutanddirectaccesstocontenttomaximize
easeofinteractionforallusers.Meansofcommunicationthroughthewebsitetothe
instructorwillbeeasytolocateforallusers.

6. FeedbackFeedbackinthestudioenvironmentwillbeimmediateandongoing.Feedback
vehicleswillbedevelopedforlearningtasksonthewebsite.Lessonswillbedesignedwith
multiplebenchmarksforstudentstoassesstheirprogress.Accesstofeedbackfromthe
instructorwillbeclearlymarked.Responseshouldbetimely.

7. DemonstrationofKnowledgeStudentswilldemonstrateincrementalgainsinknowledge
andskillthroughwrittenorplayedperformanceanddiscussion.Musicstudentsare
encouragedtoapplytheirtheoryskillsthroughcomposition.Mathstudentsdemonstrate
knowledgethroughproblemsolvinganddiscussionofapproaches.Allstudentswillbe
allowedtodemonstrateknowledgethroughvisual,auditory,ortactilemeans.Asnewlearning
contentiscreatedforthewebsite,themeanstodemonstrateskillswillbemadeaccessible
toallusers.Allassessmentvehiclesusedbythestudiomustbeavailableinformats
accessibletostudentswithdisabilities,includingallpublishedteachingmaterialsandtest
preparationmaterials.

Anongoingreviewprocesswillbeinplacetoassesscurrentcontent,curriculum,andmethods
andmakerevisionswhereneeded.UniversalDesignforLearningprincipleswillbeappliedinthe
developmentofallnewcontentandcurriculum.

Theabilitytoworkwithintheseguidelineswillberequiredofallpartiesinvolvedinthe
developmentandmaintenanceofthewebsite.Alldevelopmentsoftwareusedtocreatecontent
mustallowfordevelopmentofalternativeaccessiblemodesofinstruction.Allcommunity
performancevenusmustprovideaccommodationforstudentswithdisabilities.
