Guide Lines of Erection of Power Transformers in 33/11KV Sub

Stations
The erection of Power Transformers comprises of following Works :

1. Unloading of Transformer form Tractor Trailer/Lorry at the Sub Station.
2. Stacking aside wherever the Power Transformer linth etc are not ready
!. Moving the transformer on to plinth.
4. Assembly of all the mounting , accessories etc.,
5. Filling and topping up of transformer oil.
6. Oil circulation through flter if reuired.
!. "arthing
". #umpering
Commissioning Of Transformer
After finalization of the erection work the following tests should be conducted:
Pre Test Inspection
Sample of oil taken from the transformer and subjected to electric test (break down value)
of 50! ("#S) as specified in $S: %%5&
"elease trapped air through air release plugs and valve fitted for the purpose on various
fittings like radiators' bushing caps' tank cover' (ushing turrets etc&
)he float lever of the magnetic oil level indicator (if provided) should be moved up and
down between the end position to check that the mechanism does not stick at an* point& $f
the indicator has signaling contact the* should be checked at the same time for correct
operation& +hecking the gauge b* draining oil is a more positive test&
+heck whether gas operated (if provided) is mounted at angle b* placing a spirit level on
the top of the rela*& +heck whether the conservator is filled upto the filling oil level marked
on plain oil gauge side and corresponding to the pointer reading in #,- side& +heck the
operation of the alarm and trip contacts of the rela* independentl* b* injecting air through
the top cocks using a dr* air bottle& )he air should be released after the tests& #ake sure
that transformer oil runs through pert cock of buchholz rela*&
+heck alarm and trip contacts of .)$s' dial t*pe thermometer' magnetic oil gauge etc& (if
provided)&
/nsure that off circuit switch handle is locked at the desired tap position with padlock&
#ake sure that all valves e0cept drain' filter and sampling valves are opened (Such as
radiator valves' valves on the buchholz rela* pipe line if provided)&
+heck the condition of silicagel in the breather to ensure that it is active and colour is blue&
Also check that the transformer oil is filled in the silicagel breather upto the level indicated&
+heck tightness of e0ternal electrical connections to bushings&
-ive a ph*sical check on all bushing for an* crack or an* breakage of porcelain& (ushing
with cracks or an* other defects should be immediatel* replaced&
+heck the neutral earthing if specified& #ake sure that neutrals of 1! $ 2! are effectivel*
earthed&
)ank should be effectivel* earthed at two points&
+heck that the thermometer pockets on tank cover are filled with oil&
$f the oil temperature indicator is not working satisfactoril*' loosen and remove the
thermometer bulb from the pocket on the cover and place it with a standard&
