AYON SA MGA PINSAN NI PNP CHIEF

Rest house
lang po ito
Ni Julie M. Aurelio

S

AN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija—Tila napakalaki nito

at isang gazebo.
Wala ang hepe ng PNP ngunit
nandoon ang dalawang pinsan
niya, sina Toby at Tito Purisima,
kapwa mga abogado. Malayo man
sa pagiging “ordinary,” tulad ng
naturan ni Purisima, salat naman
ito sa marangyang muwebles na
makikita sa ilang mararangyang
tahanan sa mga eksklusibong subdibisyon sa Kamaynilaan.

Kahit hindi ito isang mansion o
Romanong villa, malayo pa rin ito
sa pagiging “Little House on the
Prairie” na nais ipahiwatig ng mga
pinsan niya.
“What you see is what you get.”
pinasinungalingan ding nasa P30

“Our main focus last week
was the stretch of Edsa from Taft
in Pasay City to Monumento in
Caloocan City but we also placed
teams in other areas, including

España and Burgos in Manila and
along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay
City,” ani MMDA Flood Control
and Sewerage Management Office head Maxima Quiambao.
Sinabi niyang naglagay na rin
nito sa Julia Vargas Avenue sa
Ortigas (malapit sa SM Megamall) at Santolan Road sa Quezon City. Ipinakalat ang iba sa
Osmeña Highway-Skyway sa

Ani Quiambao, kinumpuni
rin ng MMDA ang bakal sa mga
drainage inlet sa binahang lugar

ang tubig.
Samantala, hindi na nilagyan
ang Edsa North Avenue at
Philcoa sa Quezon City; at ang

proyektong drainage sa mga lugar na ito. Naidagdag naman
ang Katipunan Avenue sa Quezon City.

Lunar eclipse
baka magka
epekto sa
Bulkan Mayon
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs),
ang Alert Level 3 na ipinatupad
mula noong Set. 15.
“Hazardous eruption is possible within weeks” ang kahulugan ng Alert Level 3.
hapon Philippine standard time,
at magtatapos 9:35 ng gabi.
Ganap na matatakpan ang
buwan ng anino ng daigdig mula
6:25 ng gabi hanggang 7:24 ng
gabi. Sa 6:45 ng gabi ang rurok
ng eclipse. DZ Pazzibugan

‘Selfie’ is word of the year
By Dolly Anne Carvajal

S

ELFIE, selfie on the cell, who’s the
vainest of them all?

The
word “selfie” was chosen “Salita
ng Taon” (Word of the Year) by
the Filipinas Institute of Translation, Inc. (FIT) during the
Sawikaan Pambansang
Kumperensiya sa Wika.
“Selfie” was nominated and
defended by filmmaker Jose
Javier Reyes and talent manager Noel Ferrer. It bested 12
other words that vied for the
distinction.
Rightfully so! After all,
Pinoys are true-blue “selfieholics”!
I asked different celebs to
share their dream selfies. Mine
would be with George Clooney
in one of his villas in Europe.
What’s yours?
The nice thing about selfies
is that you can just strike a pose
and nobody will oppose.
Say cheese!

DENNIS Trillo
Rodeo Drive, where she
filmed many of the scenes
in her movie “Pretty Woman.”

Mark Herras
My ultimate selfie
would be with Anne Hathaway kissing me on the
cheek in Amsterdam.

Baron Geisler

Dennis Trillo
I’d like to have a selfie on
top of a pyramid in Giza with
Legendary Times magazine publisher, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos.
He’s a regular in the TV show
“Ancient Aliens.”

John Estrada
I would love to have selfies
with Scarlett Johansson and
Jennifer Lawrence—with

GABBY Concepcion
Johnny Depp as photo
bomber—on a yacht in Santorini.

Gabby Concepcion
I’d take a selfie with Morgan
Freeman, while we’re surrounded by wild animals in Africa.

Karylle
It would be with Pope Francis. He’s so amazing. I hope to
take that selfie with him when
he visits Manila next year. He
has standees in churches now.
He’s the perfect Pope for the
modern times.

Yael Yuzon
I want to get off the ride
and take a selfie with
Harold, the abominable
snowman from Disneyland’s
Matterhorn!

Jed Madela
My dream selfie is onstage, in the middle of
a sold-out concert at
the O2 Arena in London, with Beyoncé
beside me.

Suzi EntrataAbrera
KARYLLE

I’d strike a pose
with Julia Roberts on

It would be with Jennifer Lawrence at the
Louvre Museum or
Chateau de Versailles, as
we stroll and enjoy the
scenery together. She’s a
fun-loving girl so the possibility of us making weird,
dorky faces on our selfies
is huge.

Aljur Abrenica
My dream selfie is with
Ariana Grande, while we
are sky diving.

Tattoo time
Longtime event presenter, Tribal Gear (TG) celebrated its 25th year at Dutdutan 14.
The annual event that
gathers ink masters from
all over the world was
held on Sept. 26 and 27 at
the World Trade Center.
Spotted at Dutdutan 14
was TG founder Bobby
Ruiz, surrounded by the
best tattoo artists in the international scene: Big Tiny
of Unauthorized Ink, Sal
Elias of 3 Foot Radius Tattoo and Dago Dane of Dago Tattoo.
TG brought in a slew of
showstoppers to add excitement to the event.
Audiences grooved as
the American band Hed
PE, a.k.a. Planet Earth,
gave everyone a dose of
“G-punk.”

Also mounted were the
fiercest dance-off ever “G2G,”
various tattoo competitions,
Miss Dutdutan Pin-up Girl,
FHM’s Bikini Contest, Drum Duel, URCC Rage in the Cage and
an intense rock concert headlined by Wolfgang, Urbandub,
Kamikazee and other bands.
POD drummer Noah “Wuv”
Bernardo jammed with the
Drum Duel’s grand winner, too.
Tat’s inkredible!

Hollywood stars to sue
Google over nude photos
L

OS ANGELES—More than a dozen Hollywood
celebrities whose naked pictures were hacked
and posted online have threatened to sue
Google for failing to crack down on the leaks.

JENNIFER Lawrence

In a letter by prominent
lawyer Marty Singer published
by the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER,
they warned they could seek
$100 million in damages from
the US online search giant.
“We are writing concerning
Google’s despicable, reprehensible conduct in not only failing
to act expeditiously and responsibly to remove the images, but
in knowingly accommodating,
facilitating and perpetuating the
unlawful conduct,” said the let-

ter.
“Google is making millions
and profiting from the victimization of women,” added the
letter, written on behalf of over
a dozen unnamed celebrities,
actresses, models and athletes.
The warning letter came after two waves of nude photos,
including of stars like Jennifer
Lawrence, Kate Upton and Kim
Kardashian, were circulated on
social media last month.
Hackers first released a trove

of nude starlets’ photos on the
Labor Day weekend at the start
of September, after snatching
them from Apple’s iCloud in
what the tech giant has called a
“targeted attack.” A second
wave came three weeks later.
“As a result of your blatantly
unethical behavior, Google is
exposed to significant liability
and both compensatory and
punitive damages that could
well exceed $100 million,”
wrote Singer.
There was no immediate response from Google to the
lawyer’s letter, which was dated
Wednesday.

It’s all up to God:
FEU ace Pogoy
By Patrick Mayo
IT HAS ONLY BEEN
four years since the
FEU Tamaraws last
reached the UAAP’s
last dance, only to be
swept by the Ateneo
Blue Eagles who were
in the middle of a dynastic run for the
ages.
The feeling may no
longer be as painful
but the memories and
the lessons that go
along still remain, at
least for Roger Ray
“RR” Pogoy, who was
only a rookie that
year.
He was hardly a
factor four years ago
as names like Terrence Romeo and RR
Garcia were the ones
filling up the box
score game after
game. Now that the
Tamaraws are back in
the finals and one
win away from the title, he is more than
excited for the opportunity.
‘‘Nag-help lang
yung tao ko kaya naiiwan ako sa corner.
Mabuti naman at
pumasok mga shots
ko,” said the 4th year
man who once played

for the University of
Cebu before joining
the FEU camp.
This time around,
the NU Bulldogs’ defense in Game 1 focused more on FEU’s
one-two punch - Mike
Tolomia and Mac Belo, which led to Pogoy
enjoying and capitalizing on open looks at
the basket.
The result? 14
points, 10 of which,
coming in a telling
3rd quarter run that
gave the Tamaraws a
sizeable lead they
would never relinquish.
‘‘Lagi din sinasabi
ni coach (Nash
Racela) na kung open
kayo, itira niyo. Tira
lang ako kasi open at
si God na ang bahala,” the 22-year-old
versatile small forward added.
Racela, on the other hand, credited
Pogoy for following
his game plan and allowing the game to
come to him. ‘‘We just
let him play his game.
That’s what we really
teach them, we take
what the defense
gives,” said Racela.
Though FEU has

been carried by
the Tolomia-Belo
tandem, throwing
Pogoy into the
mix, especially in
the finals, even
sounds better. After
all, a ‘‘Big Three”
seems better than a
‘‘Dynamic Duo.”
And like the rest
of his teammates,
Pogoy looks forward
to today’s game and
hopes to continue his
exploits from Game 1.
‘‘Ang mindset ko
lang talaga eh gagawin ko ang lahat, 100%
lang pagdating sa
court.
