Where it is impractical to Hydro test a system, the following shall apply:
In accordance with Alberta Safety Codes Act(PESR) ASME XIII, Div. 1 and ASME B31.3 and
the latest Addenda.
No unauthorized personnel shall be allowed within 50 feet of the test area.
Examples show up to test #5 ,However these can be increased as the need arises with higher
pressures..

Test Pressure:

The maximum operating pressure of the system is _____ PSIG.
___ Remove PSVs and test to 110% of design pressure, or
___ Leave PSVs in system and test to 90% of design pressure.

Pressure Gauges:

It is mandatory that 2 calibrated gauges be used for the test with a
range of not less than1.5 times nor more than 4 times the final test
pressure.

Test Medium:

Shop compressed air to a maximum of 150 PSI. Inert gases such as
Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen or Argon (circle one) will be used for
pressures exceeding 150 PSI.

Leak test solution:

“Snoop” or water/soap 50:1 c/w hand pump sprayer shall be
performed at each increment of the test.

Test Temperature:

(Indoor shop) – 45 F (7.2 C) to 90 F (32.2 C).

Relief Protection:

PSV set at 110% of test pressure, or sized to the maximum output of
the pressure source to prevent excessive testing pressure.
