president’s letter
We have exciting news – AMPLIFY is opening a fifth branch at 4500 E. Palm Valley, near Dell Diamond. Look for a formal announcement soon, complete with an invitation to attend a concert celebration in October. The new branch is just one way we’re making AMPLIFY more accessible. Time after time when we’ve asked what you appreciate about AMPLIFY, you’ve told us it’s our convenience. I want you to know we listen to you, and the decisions we make as a credit union are always based on adding value and offering solutions. Our small business members told us they’re stretched too thin to come to our branches and make commercial deposits. We set up remote deposit, so funds can be credited electronically and the deposit can be mailed or dropped off when it’s convenient. We’re evaluating making a similar service available for all our members. You can already do most of your banking at home or at work, just by logging on to Mobile banking takes that a step further. You can conduct many banking transactions while waiting in line or anywhere you have a web-enabled cell phone or PDA. AMPLIFY is considered a national leader in mobile banking, which is a tremendous compliment. The reason we started offering mobile banking over a year ago is that we knew our members wanted easy access to their accounts 24/7. I want to thank you for making it possible for us to continue on our path as an innovative, responsive, accessible financial institution. Without our members, none of this would be possible. I want you to know we appreciate you each and every day.

Paul Trylko President

AMPLIFY’s Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, and Nominating Committee is composed of Members like you who volunteer their time, meet with Management, and generally, serve the credit union. Are you interested in serving? Here’s how: Submit your name for consideration in one of two ways: 1. Obtain and complete a volunteer application from AMPLIFY’s executive assistant, by calling 519-5410, by November 4, 2007. 2. gather 100 Member signatures for nomination by petition and submit the petition to AMPLIFY’s executive assistant by December 16, 2007. * If you would like more information about volunteering, please call Marcia at 519-5410. * Board of Director nominations are accepted from the floor of the Annual Meeting only if there are not sufficient nominations for each open position. The election is balloted only if the Board receives more than one candidate for an open position.

What’s the big deal about mobile banking?

mobile banking
AMPLIFY did extensive research to choose the most convenient mobile banking platform for you. Our mobile banking works regardless of which cell phone service provider you subscribe to or what type of device you use. That’s because Amplify’s mobile banking is browser-based, meaning you don’t have to download any kind of special program to your cell phone to use it.

AMPLIFY started offering mobile banking more than a year ago and is seen today as a leader in the industry. karen Pollack, Amplify’s VP of Operations, recently spoke at a national webinar targeted toward financial institutions which are still evaluating this technology. There are two reasons AMPLIFY is so far ahead of the pack when it comes to mobile banking. First of all, given that our heritage is IBM, members have always expected us to lead the way when it comes to technological innovations. Secondly, we really believe in our motto: Bank Less. Live More. Mobile banking is truly the most convenient way to take care of almost any financial transaction. You may be thinking, “So I can bank from my cell phone. What’s the big deal?” The big deal is that mobile banking enables you to have even more immediate access to your accounts. Here’s an example: You’re on a business trip. On the way to the hotel, you realize you’ve forgotten to make your car payment. You could wait until you get to the hotel, get your laptop out (if you have it with you), most likely pay for internet access, turn on your laptop, log in, and make the payment. Or you could take your cell phone or PDA out of your pocket, log in to mobile., and take care of the payment while you’re still in the taxi. Which solution is easier and takes less time? No contest. While using mobile banking, you can set up future payments so you’d never have to worry about missing the due date for a bill again. You can even set up an alert through AMPLIFY MoneyTracker to notify you with a text message when your car payment has been made. Another advantage of mobile banking is that it enables you to monitor your accounts more closely. That’s become increasingly important as the incidence of identity theft continues to rise. AMPLIFY offers Billpayer with its mobile banking, as well as the ability to view cleared checks and open additional accounts. Those are features you won’t find at most other financial institutions.

What’s next for mobile banking? Well, your cell phone could one day replace your debit card, your cash, and your checks.
Many financial institutions are choosing application-based platforms for mobile banking which require you to download a program to your cell phone. That may not sound like much, but most of these programs only work with certain cell phone providers or specific types of devices. In fact, some cell phone providers are viewing this as a means to prevent customers from switching their cell phone service to a different company. They think the inconvenience of having to use a different application will discourage you from leaving and make you more likely to sign up for another two-year contract with them. What’s next for mobile banking? Well, your cell phone could one day replace your debit card, your cash, and your checks. Technology is currently being developed to enable mobile banking users to make payments simply by holding their cell phones to a terminal rather than swiping a debit or credit card. This same technology will allow peer-to-peer payments for a few cents per transaction. That means you’ll be able to send money to others right from your cell phone – no cash or checks needed! Industry leaders estimate that by the year 2012 – only five years from now – most cell phones will be equipped with this capability. If you haven’t tried mobile banking yet, go to our website and check out the demo. Mobile banking is the ultimate way to bank less and live more.

Most people take their automobile to a professional mechanic for routine maintenance, and see a doctor when they have concerns about their health. It’s no different when it comes to personal finances – most people could benefit from working with a financial professional. Here are five reasons why:
YOU DON’T kNOW WHAT YOU DON’T kNOW Managing your finances on a day-to-day basis is one thing; implementing a comprehensive investment plan to fund your retirement is something else. That doesn’t mean you’re not capable of doing it, only that you shouldn’t underestimate the expertise needed to put together an effective plan. YOU HAVE gOOD INTENTIONS, BUT NEVER SET ASIDE THE TIME Working with a financial professional forces you to stop procrastinating and shifts the time commitment from you to the professional. YOU’RE NOT OBJECTIVE Having someone with experience analyze your financial condition can be extremely helpful. In cases where you and your spouse aren’t on the same financial page, a financial professional can listen to both of your concerns, identify underlying issues, and help you find common ground. kEEPINg UP WITH CHANgE IS A FULL-TIME JOB Last year, four major pieces of tax legislation were signed into law. Not understanding how these changes might affect your financial plan could be dangerous, and understanding the changes takes time and effort (see reason number 2). YOU SEE THE TREES, BUT NOT THE FOREST A good financial professional can show you how your financial goals are related – for example, how saving for your child’s college education might affect your ability to invest for retirement.

We’re getting

at Palm Valley
AMPLIFY will soon open its doors at a fifth location. The new Palm Valley branch (4500 E. Palm Valley, Round Rock, TX) is tentatively scheduled to open in early September, and will include all the features you’ve come to expect from AMPLIFY. “Our strategy is to be convenient for our members,” explains CEO Paul Trylko. “After researching where the majority of our members live and work, it was clear that Palm Valley was the best choice.” Trylko adds that since the new location has such a high volume of drive-by traffic, AMPLIFY will make an impression on non-members as well. “The new location is just past the Dell Diamond,” Trylko says. “People will see our name every day. They’ve heard our radio ads and seen the spots on TV. So when they’re in the market for a new financial institution, they’re likely to check out what AMPLIFY can offer them.” Palm Valley will feature free wifi, café-style seating, and gourmet coffee – just like the other AMPLIFY locations. Its first After Hours event is a free concert with critically-acclaimed guitarist Van Wilks on October 18th. Complete details and tickets for the event will be available soon at “Even in this era of mobile and online banking, there are still times when you prefer to sit down with someone face-to-face,” Trylko says. “For example, if you’re not sure how to fill out your mortgage application, or need someone to explain the benefits of a home equity loan. At AMPLIFY, we want to be accessible so you can truly bank less and live more.”

WHY IS AMPLIFY SPONSORINg THE OPEN 4 BUSINESS CONFERENCE? The conference is a natural extension of the business products and services AMPLIFY provides its members. AMPLIFY works with business owners of all sizes and in all stages of growth. We have business loans for equipment, commercial real estate, and construction development. Our rates are competitive, and since we’re Austin-based, decisions are made locally, by people who understand what it’s like to live and do business in Austin. And unlike many other financial institutions, AMPLIFY has no prepayment penalties on business loans. A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T REALIzE CREDIT UNIONS OFFER BUSINESS SERVICES. AMPLIFY continuously analyzes the needs of business owners and develops solutions to meet those needs. A business checking account with tiered interest is currently being developed, which would enable entrepreneurs to earn higher interest on their money without sacrificing access to those funds. Business owners also appreciate Amplify’s remote deposit feature. Deposits can be made electronically and then mailed or dropped off when it’s convenient. We understand how busy entrepreneurs are, and we’re always looking for ways to save them time and money. WHY WOULD A BUSINESS OWNER CHOOSE AMPLIFY OVER OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS? Of course AMPLIFY offers standard business services such as lines of credit, ACH, merchant services, and payroll services. But it’s our commitment to service that sets ups apart. At AMPLIFY, we want to help you spend less time thinking about your business finances and more time doing business. “We’re committed to working with our members as partners.

home. equity.
YOU WOULDN’T LEAVE AN UNCASHED CHECk SITTINg AROUND. The equity in your home is kind of like an uncashed check – putting it to work for you could work to your advantage. At AMPLIFY we have home equity loan rates as low as 5.99% APR – and when your loan closes and funds, we’ll give you a $100 gift card to use however you’d like. If you have high-interest debt, such as credit cards or other loans, rolling that debt into a home equity loan may be a good strategy. The interest on the loan may be tax deductible, so in addition to realizing a significant reduction on your monthly payments, you could get a break at tax time. If you have children about to start college, consider a home equity loan to finance part of that expense. Interest rates for AMPLIFY home equity loans are generally lower than other types of loans, and if you’re able to deduct that interest at tax time, that’s a bonus. If your family is growing, you may be thinking about a bigger home. But home prices in Austin are on the rise, and the cost of selling your current home and buying a larger one might put that out of reach. Taking out a home equity loan to add on to your current home might be the solution. Regardless of how you use your home equity loan, AMPLIFY makes the process as simple as possible. There’s no title insurance requirement, certified appraisals are not required, no fees are charged, and we pay the closing costs! Your home equity loan can be closed and funded in as little as 18 days, and we can even do your closing on a Saturday if it’s more convenient for you. Contact us to find out if a home equity loan is the solution you’ve been looking for. You can even apply online at
Fixed rate current as of 7/19/2007, subject to change. Rates may vary based on creditworthiness and term. Loan subject to approval. Contact AMPLIFY for details.

We have abandonment issues . . .
Every year the state of Texas requires all financial institutions to turn over any unclaimed or abandoned property to the Comptroller’s office. This process is called escheating. Unclaimed or abandoned property can be any financial asset which appears to have been abandoned by the owner for three years or more, including savings accounts, checking accounts, and the contents of safe deposit boxes. If we haven’t had contact with you and cannot make contact with you, at the end of five years, we have no choice but to assume your funds have been abandoned and turn them over to the state. Of course we’d much rather keep you as a member and save you the inconvenience of going to the state to retrieve your property. The best way to prevent this from happening is to do a transaction with us. Any time you do a transaction, your last contact date is updated. If you contact us to change your address or update your phone number or email address, we make note of the contact date. At AMPLIFY we make it easy for you to stay in touch and avoid the hassle of having your property turned over to the state. n  Use mobile banking to do a transaction n  in to online banking and update your info Log n  all us at 836-5901 and do a transaction with Bank-by-Phone, C   or update your info with one of our representatives n  Stop by any of our four locations
