the blood drive period.
The 10 finalists represent seven counties in CBCs 15-county service area. Those living in the local area are: Gary Lavey of Covington,

Valley Echoes
by Gary Godfrey

How to Really Succeed in Life

A friend sent me an article years ago entitled: How to Really Succeed in
Business. Ive revamped some of them to use in your everyday life.
1. In all endeavors, guide your life by the principle of JMM: Judgment,
Moderation and Maturity.
2. Never, through either word or action, speak hostile of anyone.
3. Always arrive to any engagement at least five minutes early, and try not
to be the last one to leave.
4. Never hold grudges, because todays opponent is tomorrows ally.
5. You owe your complete loyalty (in all things legal) to your closest
friends.
6. Your social life should never be a billboard. If you want people to really notice you, then volunteer.
7. Do not make excuses for failure. Exception: Do not be noble and take
the blame for someone else.
8. Always listen more than you speak. (Corollary: When in doubt, dont
say it.)
9. Be willing to take risks. Just make sure youve calculated everything
beforehand. Never just roll the dice.
10. You have to be a friend to get a friend.
THiS weekS boTTom Line: what if the kid you bullied at
school, grew up and turned out to be the only surgeon who could save
your life? ~ Lynette Mather

Brukner Nature Center to Host

Haunted Woods October 25 & 26
Brukner Nature Center invites both members and non-members
to enjoy a kid-friendly evening filled with guided walks, live animals
and costumed characters. The event will take place October 25 and
26 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Guides will lead walkers along the gently rolling, luminary-lit
trail and stop at 5 stations along the way so they can learn about the
wild creatures of the night.
But the fun doesnt stop there; activities will also include free
face painting, crafts and games, storytelling at a campfire plus cookies and cider after the hike.
There is a small charge for this program for all members and nonmembers. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis on

Bruckner Nature Centers Young Birders Club will meet at the

interpretive building Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. to
learn about some of Ohios winter visitors! Birds that spend the
summer in the far north are looking to escape the colder winter
months of the Arctic and make their way south for Ohios warmer
weather.
In addition to learning about Ohios winter migrants, YBC members will discover some winter survival techniques birds utilize to
survive those colder conditions often experienced in the northern
United State.
There is a small membership fee to join the group. High quality
binoculars and field guides are provided for use during meetings and
field trips, so no additional equipment is needed. Please call 937698-6493 if you have any questions and to RSVP.

Darke County Blood Drive to Support

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Darke County sponsors are teaming up with
Community Blood Center (CBC) to help fight the disease with community blood drives. Everyone who
registers to donate will receive the special-edition Unite to Fight Cancer t-shirt. Donors are encouraged
to schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com.
The Unite to Fight Cancer t-shirt symbolizes the unique relationship between blood donors and cancer patients. Chemotherapy and other cancer treatments have a harsh impact on blood cells. Transfusions
of donated blood and blood products are vital to reducing complications and saving lives.
The cancer awareness t-shirt is free when you register to donate Wednesday, Oct. 1 through Saturday,
Nov. 1 at any CBC Donor Center and most CBC mobile blood drives.
The Darke County Blood Drive mobile schedule includes a stop on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9:00 a.m.
to 12:00 noon at the Kroger store located at 200 Lease Ave., Greenville. Appointments are encouraged,
and the drive is open to any qualifying community member.

Reader Advisory: The National Trade
Association we belong to has purchased the above classifieds.
Determining the value of their service
or product is advised by this publication. In order to avoid misunderstandings, some advertisers do not offer
employment but rather supply the
readers with manuals, directories and
other materials designed to help their
clients establish mail order selling and
other businesses at home. Under NO
circumstance should you send any
money in advance or give the client
your checking, license ID, or credit
card numbers. Also beware of ads that
claim to guarantee loans regardless of
credit and note that if a credit repair
company does business only over the
phone it is illegal to request any money
before delivering its service. All funds
are based in US dollars. Toll free numbers may or may not reach Canada.
