Veterans Day is an
opportunity to edu-
cate our students
about the important
role our Veterans
have played in the
history of our nation.
Although the nation
celebrates Veterans
Day on November
11, Antwerp Local
will be honoring our
Veterans with an
assembly on Mon-
day, November 10 at
10:00 AM in the varsity gymnasium. At the
conclusion of the assembly, the Veterans will
be invited to attend a luncheon in the auditeria.
All community members are invited to attend
this assembly to help us honor our veterans.
To Veterans: We thank you for your dedicated
service to secure our freedoms. We are free
because of the brave.

As mentioned in our last newsletter, we will be
hosting a Senior Citizen Breakfast on Thurs-
day, December 11 beginning at 8:15 AM in the
auditeria. All district residents, age 65 and
older, are invited to join us for breakfast and
entertainment. We will feature many of our
talented students in the elementary, middle
school, and high school. Reservations are re-
quired and may be made by calling 419-258-
5421, extension 2300 by December 1. Addi-
tional information will be in the December
newsletter.

November 16-22 has been designated as Amer-
ican Education Week. This is the 93rd ob-
servance of the event, which began in 1921 as
a joint venture between the National Education
Association and the American Legion. The
annual theme is Great Public Schools: A
Basic Right and Our Responsibility. Ameri-
can Education Week spotlights the importance
of providing every child in America with a
quality public education from kindergarten
through college, and the need for everyone to
do his or her part in making public schools
great. The employees of Antwerp Local
Schools are proud to be part of a quality public
school system and appreciate the partnership
with the community. Together we can accom-
plish great things for our students.

PARENT-TEACHER
CONFERENCES
If you would like to meet with your childs
teacher(s) for a parent-teacher conference,
please call the school office to make your ap-
pointment. Conferences are being scheduled
for both Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, from 4:00-7:30
PM. Thank you for your interest in your
childs education.
MR. MANZ-ELEMENTARY
As the weather begins to cool and the daylight
hours become shorter, we are continuing to
move rapidly through the school year. Please
remember to make sure that your student(s) are
properly dressed for school. They will contin-
ue to have outside recess unless it is raining, or
the wind-chill is below 10 degrees. Inside the
warm school building, our teachers continue
to work hard to provide the best education
possible to our students. They are continuing
to utilize technology for online enrichment and
intervention activities such as Study Island,
STAR Enterprise, Xtra Math, Spelling City,
and Flocabulary. From the first week of
school, our third grade teachers have been
working very hard to prepare our students for
the recently completed Fall Reading Ohio
Achievement Assessment (OAA). We eagerly
await the results, feeling confident that this
years students will continue to achieve at as
high of a rate as our students in the past.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from
4:00-7:30 PM on October 28 and November 4.
We encourage all parents to participate in this
valuable link between their children and teach-
ers. Communication between parents and
teachers has been shown to be beneficial to
student achievement. I encourage you to con-
tinue to keep in contact with teachers through
email, phone calls, or meetings. For example,
we know that with a new math series in the PK
-3 (My Math), there have been many growing
pains as we make this change. After much
discussion and research, we decided that this
math series would be better able to meet the
needs of all ability levels in PK-3. Please con-
tinue to contact your teachers with questions,
and utilize the online tutorials and assistance
that accompany this series. Our teachers also
have Google sites that you may access via the
school webpage. Many of these Google sites
contain features such as additional intervention
and enrichment activities, calendar of events,
and class announcements.

As we continue to progress through the school
year, there are many important and engaging
events upcoming. Character Day parties will
be held on October 30, since school will not be
in session on October 31 due to a teacher in-
service. Please look for further details from
the classroom teachers. The PTO will meet at
7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11. Please
support this organization, as they are very ac-
tive in the elementary and have contributed in
many ways to our students. They are constant-
ly looking for more participation from the
community, so please consider joining this
worthwhile organization. For PTO contact
information, please call or stop at the elemen-
tary office. In addition, we will be participat-
ing in a Mix 98.1 Christmas for Kids live drive
in which we will be helping to fill the bus on
November 18. Please stay tuned for further
details as this date draws nearer. On Novem-
ber 20 at 7:00 PM, the fourth grade will be
presenting their musical, Summer Camp. Mrs.
Smith has been working hard with the stu-
dents, so please come out and support them for
an exciting night of entertainment.

Once again, thank you for your positive contri-
butions to your students educational process
at Antwerp Elementary.
MR. BUTE - HS/MS PRINCIPAL
It is difficult to believe we have concluded our
first grading period of the 2014-2015 school
year. To coincide with the end of this quarter
we have Parent-Teacher Conferences on Tues-
day, October 28 and a second session on Tues-
day, November 4 from 4:00-7:30 PM. We
thank the parents who have already scheduled
appointments and will be attending. For par-
ents who would like to meet with their stu-
dents teachers, please contact the high school
office at 419-258-5421, ext. 2100 to schedule
your appointment. The conferences provide
excellent opportunities for the teachers and
parents to discuss the achievement and growth
levels of their student(s).
Seniors, our Jostens representative, Jason Mil-
ler, was at Antwerp High School on October
23 to take graduation orders. If you have not
yet placed an order for your cap, tassel, and
gown, you will need to order the items online.
If you have any questions, please stop in the
high school office.

Dear Friends of the Paulding Exempted Vil-
lage Schools,
It is difficult to believe that we are already at
the end of the 1
st
quarter of the 2014-15
school year. Parent Teacher Conferences will
be held on November 6 and November 11,
2014 from 4 to 7 pm at all of our buildings.
This is a great time to connect with our staff
and find ways to help your children going
into the 2
nd
quarter of the grading period and
preparing for the rigor of our curriculum.
The fall sports season is finishing up and we
are preparing to start the winter season for all
of our athletes. I want to wish the winter
athletes good luck as they embark on another
season. We are very proud of our many tal-
ented students and invite the community to
attend our concerts, programs, and athletic
contests. See the calendar of events in this
newsletter, or check out our website for up-
coming events. Most programs and concerts
are free and it is not too late for our district
residents, 65 years and older, to stop at the
administration building and pick up a senior
citizen pass for free admission to all athletic
events.
I want to remind all of our student drivers
that with winter coming upon us, that extra
caution must be taken each time the car is
put out on the roads. We value each and eve-
ry one of our staff and students here in the
Paulding Schools and believe that taking a
few extra minutes is the safest route to and
from school on winter roads.
It is time to begin nominations for the Aca-
demic Hall of Fame Class of 2015. Gradu-
ates of any high school currently within the
boundaries of the Paulding Exempted Vil-
lage Schools District are eligible for nomina-
tion. Other criteria for nominations and the
application can be accessed on our website at
pauldingschools.org under Academics and
then Hall of Fame. The Academic Hall of
Fame Nomination application deadline is
February 1, 2015 and is just another way to
showcase the many talents of the Paulding
Exempted Village Schools.
Please take the time to visit with family and
friends as the holiday season approaches. A
very wise man I worked with always told
me, Do not forget elderly family at holiday
time as they appreciate your company.
We are very proud of the academic and ex-
tracurricular achievements of our students,
and the many outstanding staff members who
work with these students on a daily basis. As
always, I invite you to become an active part
of our school district and to get involved in
the lives of our young people by attending as
many of the student activities as your sched-
ule allows. Please feel free to visit me at my
office in the Paulding Administration office,
call me at 419-399-4656 or e-mail me at
w_hanak@pauldingschools.org at your con-
venience if you have any questions about our
school district or anything in this community
newsletter.
Thank you,
William D. Hanak, Superintendent

The screenings are available to all children in

SEARCH FOR CHILDREN WITH DIS-
ABILITIES
Our school district is participating in an ef-
fort to identify, locate and evaluate all chil-
dren from birth through 21 years of age who
may have disabilities. Disability, in this in-
stance, means such conditions as hearing
impairments, visual impairment, speech or
language disabilities, mental retardation or
other health impairments, physical impair-
ments, autism and traumatic brain injury.
Our school has responded vigorously to fed-
eral and state mandates requiring the provi-
sion of a free and appropriate public educa-
tion, regardless of a childs disability. But
before we can serve children they must be
found. Many children with disabilities are
not visible because they cannot function in
the mainstream of the community. Also,
many unidentified children with disabilities
are preschoolers. Parents may not be aware
their child has a disability, or that there are
programs and services available. Our school
district is interested in meeting the needs of
the children with disabilities. If you know of
a child who may have a disability, contact
the school for information or help.

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS
AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)
Schools must notify parents and eligible stu-
dents annually of their rights under FERPA.
Please go to the schools webpage at
www.pauldingschools.org. On the Parents
drop down list, click District Policies,
(Policy 8330 and Form 8330 F9) Annual No-
tice to Parents Regarding Students Records
and Specific Events/Activities.

SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION
January is School Board Recognition Month.
The school board works closely with parents,
education professionals and other community
members to create the educational vision we
want for our students. It then formulates
goals, defines results and sets the course for
an adequate and equitable education program
for all our students. This is a time to show
our appreciation for the leadership provided
for our schools.

How quickly the frst grading period has come
and gone at Wayne Trace Local Schools. Thank
you to everyone who has helped to make the
start of the 2014-2015 school year so positve.
Educatng our youth is a team efort, and main-
taining cooperaton between school personnel
and community members is a top priority as we
contnue to make this a great school district.
Safety also contnues to be a top priority at all
three of our school buildings. Recently, each of
our building principals met with Sherif Jason
Landers to review various procedures in the
event of an emergency. These meetngs should
lead to even beter communicaton with our local
law enforcement agencies. We thank Sherif
Landers for his proactve approach. Additonally,
we are aware of the Ebola situaton in Ohio. At
the tme of this writng, no one in the state of
Ohio has been diagnosed with this disease, but
we are taking general, common-sense steps to do
what we can to assure that our students and staf
are as safe as possible.
In academic news, we appreciate everyones
cooperaton with our professional development
plans so far this school year. We have had two
full-day in-services this fall for contnued training
in the worlds of technology and student growth
measures. Each of these full days was very good
use of tme. At this tme, we have no more full-
day in-services planned. However, please be
reminded that we have two-hour delays sched-
uled for the third Wednesday of November,
January, February, and April for our building-
levels teams to collaborate as part of the Ohio
Improvement Process. Our teachers and admin-
istratve staf contnue to work hard at adaptng
to the changes coming from the Ohio Depart-
ment of Educaton, and this collaboraton tme is
an essental part of the process.
In other academic news, the 21
st
Century Grant
afer-school tutoring program is of and running.
Students must qualify for this program. So if
you received a leter earlier in the year statng
that your child has qualifed for this program, you
may stll enroll your child in the program at no
cost to you. Transportaton to Payne and Grover
Hill is also available this year to the students in
this program. If you have questons about the
21
st
Century program, contact our program coor-
dinator, Mrs. Ashley Shepherd, at Western Buck-
eye ESC (419-399-4711).
Congratulatons go out to this years Staf Hall
of Fame inductees, Mr. James McElroy and
Mr. Harold Sponseller. Both of these gentlemen
were inducted at the annual ceremony held on
October 10. A big thank you goes out to every-
one who has nominated former staf members
for this award, as well as to our own HOF com-
mitee for their eforts.
Parents are reminded that parent-teacher
conferences are scheduled for October 29-30,
and school will not be in session on October 30-
31. If you need more informaton concerning
parent-teacher conferences, contact the building
principals ofce at your child(ren)s schools.
As always, if you have questons or concerns
about your childs educatonal experience at
Wayne Trace, feel free to contact your building
principal or superintendent.
Go Raiders!

Postsecondary Transiton Expo
Select Wayne Trace Juniors and Seniors will be
atending the Postsecondary Transiton Expo
November 14 at the Niswonger Performing Arts
Center in Van Wert. The event encourages self-
advocacy skill development and ofers resources
and exhibits and informaton on postsecondary
educaton, career employment, and independent
living optons from various state and local agen-
cies and service providers. The keynote speaker
is LeDerick R. Horne, a natonally recognized po-
et, playwright, speaker, and advocate for people
with disabilites.

Surrogate Parents for Children with Disabilites
As stated on the ODE website, a surrogate
parent is "appointed to act in place of a parent to
make educatonal decisions for the child." This
would include special educaton evaluaton and
educatonal placement and in the provision of a
free appropriate public educaton. If anyone
is interested in representng students with disa-
bilites as a surrogate parent, please contact me
for further informaton.
WT PAYNE ELEMENTARY
Jody L. Dunham, Principal
WTPE is excited to announce that we have
several opportunites for families and community
members to volunteer and partner with our
teachers, staf and students. Research shows
that when families and communites partner with
schools to support learning and development,
the students beneft. WTPE works hard to
provide our students with the most and best
learning opportunites available.
Volunteers in the classrooms are needed daily
for Grades Preschool through Six. Some of the
things that volunteers may be asked to do with
students include: practce math facts fashcards,
listen to students read, practce sight words
fashcards, help students practce writng their
name, numbers or leters. If you are excited
about making a diference in a students life,
please send an email to dunhamj@wt.k12.oh.us
or call 419-263-2512 and ask for Jody Dunham.
The second way that volunteers can make a
diference is by joining the PTO. Families and
community members are encouraged to join the
PTO. The PTO meets the second Thursday of
each month in the Art Room at 4:30 p.m. More
informaton about the PTO can be found on our
school webpage or by calling 419-263-2512.
Families are reminded that they may complete
Free and Reduced Lunch Applicatons throughout
the school year. Forms for this process are avail-
able in our school ofce. If a student qualifes for
free and reduce lunches, they may enroll in our
building-wide Blessings in a Bag program. Bless-
ings in a Bag provides food to students each
weekend. An applicaton is available on our web-
site and in our ofce.
A sincere thank you goes out to all of the fami-
lies that plan to atend parent-teacher confer-
ences. We value the opportunity to work togeth-
er with families to support and enhance the
educaton of their child(ren). We also wish to
thank the Payne Volunteer Fire Department for
providing the students with a fre safety program
and educatonal materials on October 21. We
appreciate their support each school year!
November is going to be a very busy month at
WTPE. Grandparent Day will be celebrated for
grade three on November 7 and for grade four
on November 26. On November 11, the commu-
nity is invited to join us for our Veterans Day
program at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
The Bowling Green State University Treehouse
Troupe will come to WTPE on November 18 to
present two diferent theater performances.
They will also provide a 30 minute post-show
drama workshop with grades 5 and 6. School will
be delayed by 2 hours on Wednesday, November
19. The staf will be partcipatng in professional
development that morning.
The annual sixth grade Thanksgiving Program
will take place on November 21 at 1:30 p.m. And
fnally, school will not be in session on November
27 and 28 due to Thanksgiving break.
As always, thank you for your contnued
support of Payne Elementary!

WT GROVER HILL ELEMENTARY
Kevin Wilson, PrincipaL
Each year as November arrives the school year
seems to become very busy. The frst quarter is
over, many of the beginning year assessments
are complete, and now we transiton into many
diferent school actvites while at the same tme
contnuing to work hard in the classroom.
On November 11, the Grover Hill staf and
students will be taking tme out of their busy day
to honor our Veterans. The WTGH Student
Council is working hard to put this program
together. We, the staf and student, would like to
invite all Veterans to come and join us for a
special program on November 11 startng at 9:50
a.m. Afer the program, we would like all Veter-
ans to stay and join us for lunch. All Veterans
lunches will be free of charge. Providing this
meal is a small way for us to say THANK YOU for
your service to our country. We look forward to
seeing you on November 11.
Mrs. Wieland and her students in grades four,
fve, and six have begun preparatons for this
years Christmas program. They have selected
the program Santa is Stuck in the 50s and are
working on auditoning students for the cast.
Save the date - Thursday, December 11.
Parent/Teacher conferences are on October 29
and October 30. During these conferences,
parents are able to discuss their childs progress
with the teachers. If for some reason you are
unable to atend these conferences, you may
contact the Grover Hill Elementary Ofce to
schedule a conference at another tme.
As November arrives so does cold and fu sea-
son. The custodial staf and I recently met to
discuss precautons we as a staf can take in pre-
ventng the spreading of these diseases. We
want to let you know that during this tme extra
precautons are begin implemented to protect
your children. On a daily basis Mr. Schafner and
Mrs. Brown are spending extra tme cleaning the
restrooms, wiping down door handles, and disin-
fectng the drinking fountains. We believe by
being proactve we can help keep your children
healthy.
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity
to wish you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

WT JR./SR. HIGH SCHOOL
Greg Leeth, Principal
I trust that you and your child have had a
positve start to the school year. Grade cards
have been issued and parent-teacher confer-
ences scheduled; however, you can keep open
the communicaton lines with your childs
teacher throughout the year by calling and email-
ing. Likewise, I encourage all staf to communi-
cate with parents on a regular and ongoing basis.
The most important factor for student success is
having parents who are involved and who care
about his/her educaton.
If you have not received your childs grade card
and/or do not have access to his/her grades via
progress book, check to see if you have paid your
childs book fees. If you are unsure, call the high
school ofce to fnd out what you owe.
A number of events will occur in the month of
November. On Monday, November 3, the eighth
grade students will tour Vantage Career Center.
While students do not make the decision to
atend Vantage untl their sophomore year, this
tour motvates students to begin thinking about
future career optons.
On Friday, November 7, the Student Council is
hostng its annual Red Cross Blood Drive from
9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the junior high gymnasi-
um. To schedule your donaton appointment,
visit www.redcross.org.
The annual Veterans Day program will be held
on November 11 at 8:00 a.m. in the high school
gymnasium. The public is invited to atend this
inspiring assembly.
Another special program that will take place in
November is the Natonal Honor Society induc-
