Introducing Xtralis XAS
The Xtralis XAS Detectors
Point In A Box (PIAB) Aspirating Smoke Detection (ASD) solutions
Incorporate conventional or analog addressable point detectors
Meet the unique needs of many commercial and industrial applications
Two variants available for US
XAS-1-US
XAS-2-US
3
Improved Sensitivity
PIAB technology offers
improved smoke detection
performance and certainty over
stand alone point detectors
Wide Range of Points
Conventional or analog
addressable point detectors
Different Detection Strategies
Value Proposition
Extended Coverage
PIAB offers multiple sampling
holes
Simplicity, Flexibility & Cost-
effectiveness
Easily introduced into existing
FACP by fitting compatible point
detectors
4
Principle of Operation
Detector actively draws air from the protected area through sampling holes in
a pipe network
Sampled air is then filtered before being analyzed by conventional or analog
point detectors incorporated into the system
The system utilizes a high performance aspirator and configurable flow
monitoring circuitry
Trouble conditions (high / low airflow, etc) are reported by activating
corresponding LEDs and closure of corresponding relay contact

Loop connections
24 VDC input power

XAS Open Area Protection
Per NFPA 72- sampling hole spacing shall be
equivalent to spot smoke detection
Point Detector (not
included)
XAS-1 & XAS-2 can provide up to two sampling holes per pipe
XAS-1 / XAS-2
15
XAS Open Area Protection
900-1800 sq.ft coverage from a
centralized detection point-
standard sensitivity (not very
early warning detection)
XAS
16
Restricted Open Areas
Transformer vaults
Restricted government spaces
Inaccessible laboratory spaces
Elevator shafts
MRI Rooms
Concealed roof or floors spaces
Production areas
Refrigerated areas
XAS detectors can be installed in places with easy access
Only the sampling pipes are in the inaccessible area
17
When Unobtrusive Detection is Required
Prison cells
Museums
Mansions and estates
Ornate architecture
Modern architecture
Reception Areas
XAS supports discrete detection
18
The following analog addressable point detectors have been approved by
UL for use with the XAS systems
UL Approved Point Detectors
19
Baffles
Used to direct the sampled air through the point
detectors
Shaped to match a particular model or range of
detectors
Simply clip into position in the slots provided in
the transparent lid of the detector housing
For an XAS-1-US fitted with two point detectors,
two baffles shall be inserted
For an XAS-1-US fitted with a single point
detector, a blanking baffle shall be inserted
20
UL 268/UL268A listed (Open Area, Duct Detection)
Provides many ASD benefits to standard sensitivity applications
Centralized and convenient maintenance
Increases overall revenue
Eliminates troublesome duct detectors
Low cost ASD alternative targeted for inaccessible areas:
- Restricted Access - Open Area
- Standard & Challenging Duct Smoke Detection applications
Reduces customer complaints
- Strengthens end-user relations
