Facts worth knowing
What is dust/fume?
The term of dust/fume applied in this
context describes the amount of dis-
persed, firm particles in the air, which
are produced among other things
during mechanical processes such as
welding. In general you have to distin-
guish between grit and fines. Fines can
be further classified into categories
E-dust (dust which can be inhaled),
A-dust (dust alveolar) and U-dust (ultra
fine dust).
In general dust/fume below a particle
size of 10 µm is being characterized as
fines. Also welding fumes, soldering
fumes and oil mist are part of the
category fines. Since their particle size
is smaller than 1 µm they belong to the
fraction of A-dust particles and require
particular hygienic attention.
How is the dust/fume produced?
In welding engineering dust and
therewith hazardous substances
are produced by application of
base materials ►
filler materials ►
impurities ►
ambient air ►
during processes such as
evaporation ►
condensation ►
oxidization ►
decomposition ►
pyrolysis ►
combustion ►
Why is dust/fume dangerous?
Generally speaking every kind of dust/
fume can lead to respiratory diseases
(Bronchitis, obstructive bronchitis)
resulting from the inhaling of dust in a
high concentration and during a longer
period. Dust/fume is in particular
dangerous if it contains hazardous
substances.
Depending on the result of the risk
evaluation, the German Ordinance
on Hazardous Substances prescribes
to realize safeguards according to a
protection class concept:
Protection class 1
In case of a negligible risk, the basic
measures according to § 8 of the Ger-
man Ordinance on Hazardous Sub-
stances (protection class 1) must be
adopted. They include for example:
Cleanliness of the workplace ►
No food at the workplace ►
Use of protective clothing ►
Limiting the quantity of hazardous ►
substances to the quantity required
for the activity
The protection class 1 has to be
fulfilled during welding at any time
(cf. TRGS 500).
Protection class 2
If the basic measures of the protection
class 1 are not enough for the handling
of hazardous substances, additional
measures have to be adopted accord-
ing to § 9 of the German Ordinance on
Hazardous Substances:
Substitution ►

Replacing hazardous substances
for substances, preparations and
products which are less harmful
regarding health and safety

Choosing a diferent process, e.g.
gas tungsten-arc welding instead of
MIG-welding or active-gas metal-
arc welding
Evaluation of the charge (exposition) ►
Reduction of the charge in using a ►
local capturing device
Protection class 3
For toxic (T) and extremely toxic (T+)
substances and if the protection
class 2 is not enough, the measures of
the protection class 3 have to be real-
ized. The following additional meas-
ures are required according to § 10 of
the German Ordinance on Hazardous
Substances:
Closed systems or ►
Access restriction ►
An example can be the welding of
galvanized and coated materials.
Protection class 4
For activities involving the use of
carcinogenic, mutagenic or fertility
afecting substances, additional safe-
guards have to be realized if the limit
values at the workplace according to
§ 11 Ordinance on Hazardous Substances
(protection class 4) are exceeded:
Separation of the danger zone ►
Recirculation of exhaust air only for ex- ►
ceptional cases (cf. german TRGS 560)
Among others, the protection class 4
has to be fulfilled during welding of
chromium-nickel steels.

TEKA mobile suction and filter units enable
you to flexibly adapt to changing conditions.
For situations that require dust and smoke
extraction, we ofer adequate solutions for
metal processing (welding, laser), electronic
industry (soldering), dental and medical
technology and also for the printing industry
(plotting).
The TEKA HANDYCART, for instance, is a
compact, space-saving unit used for welding
of small components. In a special version this
filter unit can be used for torch extraction.
On the other hand, we ofer high end mobile
cartridge filter units like our STRONGMASTER
and CARTMASTER. These units allow long
lasting extractions of welding processes with
non-alloyed metals and precious metals,
especially along with strong smoke emissions.
Not only smoke and dust can be extracted by
our mobile units, also other health afecting
emissions such as oil mist can be extracted by
suction units with e.g. the TEKA OILCUBE.

20 1. Mobile suction and filtering systems 21
CLEANMASTER-BGIA mechanical filter unit
fitted with 1 suction element, BGIA-certified
Description
Mobile welding fume filter for industrial
suction tasks which is certified by
BGIA in combination with all TEKA suc-
tion arms (∅ 150 mm). The separation
efciency is ≥ 99 %.
Gross particles are separated in the
pocket filter. Afterwards, the air is
guided through the pre-filter into the
particle filter where even finest fumes
and dusts are separated.
The long-lasting pocket filter extracts
the gross particles from the air flow and
increases the lifetime of the particle
filter. This minimizes considerably the
consequential costs.
The lifting device for the filter elements
closes the filters airtight and forces the
air through the filter elements.
The air is evacuated on the backside of
the unit through an outlet grill and rises
up. Thus, at a 1 m distance no disturbing
air flow is perceivable any more.
A stable steel plate construction with
continuous powder coating guarantees
a low maintenance operation even
under rough conditions.
The unit is fitted with a high-capacity
fan with high negative pressure that
guarantees a high volumetric flow even
if the filter is saturated.

Appropriate to: fume suction during welding jobs with non alloyed steels and ►
precious metals generating large amounts of dust. The unit is BGIA-certified for
welding fumes category W3 (BGIA certification 200520840/1140).

Description
Mobile cartridge filter unit BGIA-
certified in combination with all
TEKA suction arms for welding fume
category W3 (certification BGIA:
200422876/1140). The separation
efciency is ≥ 99 %.
As the filter cartridge, fitted with a
PTFE membrane and a big filter area,
is dedustable, the unit only generates
minimal consequential costs. The filter
cartridge remains in the unit during
dedusting which guarantees that no
dust can reach the working space.
The unit corresponds to the security
requirements for units of the welding
fume category W3 (high alloyed steels).
If you handle the unit correctly, you
can use it for circulating air operation
because it fulfils the requirements for
the exceptional rules according to the
new german hazardous substances
ordinance.
A stable sheet steel construction with
continuous powder coating guarantees
a low maintenance operation even
under rough conditions.
A bafe plate serves to pre-separate
gross particles. Afterwards, the filter
cartridge separates the remaining dusts
and fumes. The filters are dedusted at
a maintenance door by means of a com-
pressed air pistol on the clean air side.
The particles are collected in a dust
collecting drawer and can be disposed
afterwards.
The air is evacuated on the backside of
the unit through an outlet grill and rises

OILCUBE oil mist filter
Description
Mobile suction unit including three
filter stages. The cleaned air can be
returned to the working space.
An aluminium filter forms the first filter
stage. This is where a majority of the
extracted oils and emulsions already
condense.
A pocket filter with a large surface,
specially developed for oil mist, forms
the second filter stage and ensures the
separation of the finest oil drops. The
large filter surface ensures excellent
separation efciency.
The final filter stage consists of a
special filter appropriated for oil and
emulsion mist.
The extracted oils and liquids are
collected in a tank and can be
discharged by a ball valve.

In the field of stationary and central units
we ofer devices for mid and high amount of
emissions with fully automatic dedusting.
Our range of products includes diferent wall-
mounted models that can be fitted with up
to 2 suction elements.
Additionally, you find high-capacity units in
this field that can be installed to fix places in
production halls and allow a simultaneous
suction for many diferent working places via
ducting and hoses. The diferent components
are optimally adapted to every client by our
technicians.
All central units are fitted with automatic
filter control. The modern, user-friendly
PULSE-CONTROL corresponds to highest
technical requirements.
Our AIRTECH filter units ofer a supporting
compartment air cleaning, especially for jobs
with high smoke emission that ejects the
filtered air through big jets on the upper side.

CAREMASTER stationary mechanical filter unit
fitted with 1 suction element
Description
Stationary welding fume filter whose
stable steel plate construction with
continuous powder coating guarantees
low maintenance operation even under
rough conditions.
The gross particles are separated in the
pre-filter. Afterwards, the air is guided
through the particle filter (separation
efciency ≥ 99 %) where even finest
fumes and dusts are separated. The
lifting device guarantees absolute
impermeability and also the separation
efciency of the filter unit.
The unit is fitted with a high-capacity
fan with high negative pressure that
guarantees high volumetric flow even
if the filter is saturated.
From a length of 5 m on, the suction
arm / suction crane is delivered with an

50 2. Stationary and central suction and filtering systems 51
FILTERCUBE 2N / 2H central filter unit,
EN DIN ISO 15012-1 certified
Appropriate to: Many suction tasks for several working places at the same time for jobs ►
using non-alloyed metals and precious metals, galvanized material and aluminium.
Description
The stationary filter units FILTERCUBE
2N and 2H are certified according to
DIN EN ISO 15012-1 BGIA (test certifi-
cate BGIA: 200622719). The separation
efciency is ≥ 99 %.
The unit corresponds to the security
requirements for units of the weld-
ing fume category “W3” (high-alloyed
steels). If you handle the unit correctly,
you can use it for circulating air opera-
tion because it fulfils the requirements
for the exceptional rules according
to the new hazardous substances
ordinance.
The released fumes and dusts are
extracted via appropriate suction ele-
ments and guided into the filter unit.
A bafe plate with large surface serves
as pre-separator and distributes the
particles on the whole filter surface.
All filter units are fitted with hanging
filter cartridges. Thus, the admission of
the cartridges is carried out on the side.
Heavy particles fall down directly into
the dust collecting container.
The filter cartridges are precoated ex
works with a special filter medium.
This increases considerably the lifetime
compared to standard cartridges.
The dedusting is controlled by a
microprocessor by means of the PULSE-
CONTROL via the POWER-SPRAY-System
(power spray system).
The advantages of the TEKA POWER-
SPRAY-System compared to jet or
rotating nozzle dedusting systems
Low-wear and gentle for the car- ►
tridges because dedusting only
requires 4 bar (compared to 8 bar
for rotating nozzles)
No follow-up costs due to wearing ►
rotating nozzles
Thus lower follow-up costs and higher ►
lifetime of the filter cartridges
Optimal distribution of the air in the ►
cartridge via displacement bodies
(absent for jet dedusting)
Low consumption of compressed air ►
because no rotating nozzles are in-
tegrated and the cartridge volume is
reduced by the special TEKA displace-
ment bodies.

ZPF 9H central suction and filter unit, BGIA-certified
Appropriate to: Various suction tasks for several working places at the same time. ►
Especially appropriate to large amounts of air.
Description
The filter unit is BGIA-certified
according to DIN EN ISO 15012-1 (test
certificate: 200822452/11400). The sepa-
ration efciency is ≥ 99 %. The unit cor-
responds to the security requirements
for units of the welding fume category
“W3” (high alloyed steels). The central,
self-dedusting cartridge filter system
cleans the polluted air that is guided by
a suction element suitable for practical
application through a specially de-
signed ducting system.
The advantages are the optimal dedust-
ing performance (high lifetime of the

Central suction and filter unit for room exhausting
Appropriate to: Cleaning of the polluted air in the hall. ►
Description
Often a selective suction alone is not
enough to undercut the legally pre-
scribed limit values for working places
and thus to exclude danger for humans.
Therefore it is necessary to additionally
ventilate the space.
The TEKA room exhausting systems
apply the so called „PUSH-PULL-System“.
On one side of the hall, the pollutants
are taken in by sufciently dimen-
sioned ventilation gratings and filtered
afterwards. On the other side of the
hall the cleaned air is returned into the
space – either via ventilation gratings or
via jets.
The advantages of the TEKA room
exhausting system are the optimal
suction performance of the filter unit,
the user-friendliness and the low main-
tenance.
The air can either be extracted inside
or outside. A mixed operation is also
possible. The return of the air in the
working space considerably minimizes
the heating costs.
However, the requirements of the new
hazardous substances ordinance must
be respected.

AIRTECH central suction and filter unit
for room exhausting
Appropriate to: Cleaning of polluted hall air. ►
Description
A selective suction alone often is not
enough to undercut the legally pre-
scribed limit values for working places
and thus to exclude danger for humans.
Therefore it is necessary to additionally
ventilate the space.
The pollutants are extracted at a height
of 2 m via gratings and filtered after-
wards. At the level of the ceiling, the
cleaned air is returned to the space via
jets.
The advantages of the AIRTECH-room
exhausting system are the optimal
suction performance of the filter unit
(high lifetime of the cartridges, high
suction performance), the user-friend-
liness and the low maintenance. As
ducting is not necessary the location of
the unit can flexibly be chosen.
If the air is returned into the work-
ing space, the heating costs can be
minimized considerably. However,
the requirements of the new german
hazardous substances ordinance must
be respected.
The filter units are fitted with filter
cartridges of the filter category BGIA M
(separation efciency ≥ 99 %) and have
a specially developed dedusting system
which consists of the combination of
PULSE-CONTROL steering with the
POWER-SPRAY-System. This combina-
tion guarantees a very good dedusting
performance of the filter cartridges for
an optimal suction performance during
operation.

Accessory: Spark pre-separator
Appropriate to: Ideal safety device against risk ►
of fire danger for filter units.
Description
The spark latch consists of a separate
housing with integrated copper plates.
The assembly of the copper plates
guarantees a multiple air scoop. Due to
this, sparks bump into the bafe plates
and emit their energy.
The spark latch can either be screwed
directly to the filter unit or integrated
to the suction ducting.
By means of a maintenance hole, the
spark latch can be cleaned if necessary.

TEKA gas cutting benches are modularly
constructed and are ofered in standard sizes
of 2 up to 24 m². Bigger tables are also regu-
larly produced. The modules are assembled
on site within short time. In combination
with our suction units they protect against
health impairment during thermal cutting
procedures.
We ofer diferent welding benches, among
others a special welding bench for education
purposes that is often applied in companies
with a training programme and that is flex-
ible to apply.
Our grinding benches are characterized by
rear wall suction and suction from below and
are optionally fitted with lamellas. If you do
not choose metal walls it is also possible to
handle long and bulky objects in an ergo-
nomic way.

Oxygen cutting bench
Appropriate to: Boom machines and portal milling machines. ►
Description
The TEKA oxygen cutting tables are ap-
propriate to boom machines and portal
milling machines and are particularly
economic due to low energy input. The
very stable construction guarantees
that the table does not distort even
under high thermal loads.
TEKA oxygen cutting benches possess
a sectional suction principle: Inlet ducts
cover regularly the bench below the
work piece support. The division guar-
antees an optimal extraction of the
pollutants with a rather small amount
of air.
By means of the automatic damper
control, a damper system only opens
the section in the cutting area. Thus,
extraction only takes place where fume
is produced. The suction holes in the
oxygen cutting bench are arranged in a
way that gross particles directly reach
the slag tank and do not unnecessarily
charge the filters of the suction unit.
Slag and gross dust are collected in the
segment tanks which can be removed
easily and safely by means of a crane.
The TEKA oxygen cutting benches are
characterized by short assembly time
and low transportation costs. Tables
up to a width of 2 m and a length of
3 m are already completely assembled.
Bigger tables are assembled directly on
site. The modular construction also al-
lows a subsequent, user-defined exten-
sion of benches that are already built.
Besides the standard solutions, it is also
possible to build other dimensions or
special solutions. Our employees would
be glad to advice you regarding the
optimal adjustment of oxygen cutting
bench and filter unit.

TEKA is very proud of the growing part of
certified units. Several of the suction units
are BGIA-certified for the highest available
welding fume category (W3), a certificate
awarded by the German institute for indus-
trial safety.
Welding fume category W3 means that our
units are able to reliably extract and clean
low, medium and high alloyed steels, e.g.
containing a part of nickel and chrome of
30 % and more with a separation efciency
of more than 99 %.
The units are certified according to the inter-
national efective standard DIN ISO 15012-1
that controls industrial and health protection
for welding and related processes and the
requirements, examination and identifica-
tion of air cleaning systems.
At the moment, our range of units con-
tains three mobile units that are certified:
CAREMASTER, CLEANMASTER and STRONG-
MASTER. In addition, several of our statio-
nary or central units are certified with the
BGIA seal: CARTMASTER for wall mounting,
the FILTERCUBE 2N-4H model range and the
central cartridge filter unit ZPF-9H.

TEKA fans are efciently applicable for
aeration and ventilation of working places
and halls. Polluted air can be extracted by
means of a hose or a pipe fitted with an ex-
traction element at the suction nozzle and
can afterwards be guided outside by means
of the suction nozzle and the connected
ducting. Optionally, the air can be guided
from outside to inside in order to supply
working places or spaces with fresh air.
Our high-quality fans that are made of
steel plate or silumin casting are stably
built and thus appropriate to a continuous
application. Additionally, a very calm
operation is guaranteed by the static and
dynamic balance.
The fans are also inserted in our economic,
universal applicable exhaust fan. They
form the central unit of our filter devices,
this time in combination with disposable
filters or filter cartridges.
The air is guided via the ducting from the
working places to the unit nearly without
loss. If required, the ducting can easily and
professionally be installed by our techni-
cians.
