Kingston Wharves Cops Regional Port Award
Punta Cana, Dominica Republic: Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) has once
again been voted the Best Multi-Purpose Port Operator in the Caribbean by regional
shipping lines, agents and other key port users.
"Our success is based on the continued support and confidence of our customers,
employees and other stakeholders for which we are truly thankful" said Chairman
and CEO Grantley Stephenson of the CSA recognition. Mr. Stephenson went on
further to say "it's the confidence of our stakeholders that has positioned the
company to embark on an ambitious portfolio of capital projects designed to
strengthen the company's base as a world-class terminal operator for the ‘next 50
years of shipping'".
The Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) presented the top award to KWL at the
recently held annual gala banquet closing its 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM),
Conference, and Exhibition held in Punta Cana, Dominica Republic. The win
acknowledges the maintenance of high standards and stellar service by the
Jamaican Port, having coped the award more times than any other regional marine
terminal in the past 8 years.
The Port Awards Committee of the CSA is comprised of key users of the region's port
terminals. The committee reviews and recognizes the performance and operations
of terminals in the Caribbean, Latin America and the Gulf of Mexico for the calendar
year prior to their AGM.
Other 2013 award recipients included Kingston Container Terminal, Jamaica - ‘Port
Security’; Grand Port Maritime de Guadeloupe – ‘Port Dependability and Flexibility’;
Sociedad Portuaria de Santa Marta, Columbia – ‘Port Efficiency and Productivity’;
Manzanillo International Terminal, Panama – ‘Growth, Development and
Improvement’; DP World Caucedo, Dominica Republic – ‘Port Environment, Health
and Safety’ and Terminal de la Pointes des Grieves, Martinique – ‘Container Terminal
of the Year’.

Over 350 shipping industry leaders representing the Caribbean, Latin America and
Europe attended the 44th AGM, Conference and Exhibition hosted by the CSA in
collaboration with the Dominican Republic Shipping Association.
