Fig. 2-2 is used in

Frequency respons of "KA-801"

circuit

BAX-type (one NF-type) and RC-type circuitry the tone control circuit.

The BAX-type circuitry has the advantages that: (1) High output voltage. (2) High SIN and low distortion. On the other hand. it has disadvantages. including, Requires an input buffer due to the low and varying input impedance. (2) Unsmooth variation of tone control characteristics as (1) shown in Figure 2. (3) Phase inversion of output signal. The RC-type circuit has the advantages that: (1) Smooth variation of tone control characteristics (2) Stable operation. However, it has disadvantages the following: (1) Large insertion loss and poor SIN. (2) It requires a flat amplifier with approximate 20 dB gain. The tone control circuit used in the KA-801 has all the advantages of BAX-type and RC-type circuits mentioned above, and at the same time. the disadvanges are all eliminated. The tone' control circuit is called a uN egative-Feedback RC-type" and its superior performance is achieved by using a linear IC with non-inverted and inverted input with high input impedance,

TREBLE CONTROL
Figure 3-1 shows the TREBLE section of the tone control circuit. and Figure 3-2 is an equivalent circuit which explains its operation

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION (5)
OVERLOAD DETECTOR

dB

o

The overload signal is applied to Pin 6. A pair of transistors, 07 and OS, forms a flip-flop, and the collector of the 07 is connected to the base of inverter 06 through R3. Normally, the base of 07 is supplied with a higher voltage than that supplied to the base of OS (the base voltage of 07 is supplied from the anode of OS, whereas the base voltage of OS is supplied from the cathode of OS), so 07 is ON, and OS is OFF. Thus, 06 is OFF. When the positive overload signal is applied to Pin 6, OS turns ON and the collector voltage drops. The base voltage of 07 also drops because of its connection to the collection of OS through R5, so 07 is turned OFF The collector voltage of 07 rises, which raises the base voltage of 07 through R3, and OS remains ON. Diode DO, connected to Pin 6, cuts the negative input voltage applied to the base of OS, so that OS is prevented from turning OFF. Accordingly, once a positive overload signal is applied to the circuit. the circuit condition is locked until the power is turned OFF.

Fig. 10-3

PROTECTION

CIRCUIT

(lC: HA12002)

This integrated circuit protects the loudspeakers and power amplifier. The IC consists of a zero-potential detector, overheating detector, line voltage detector, and relay driver, the KASOl uses only the zero-potential and line voltage detectors.

ZERO-POTENTIAL

DETECTOR
where 04,

Pin 3 or Pin 4 is used to detect zero-potential Oland 03 are all cut-off.

LINE VOLTAGE DETECTOR
The time constant of .the ripple filter consistsing of R42 and C32 is set to a low value so that the voltage at Pin 5 drops to a negative level immediately after the power is turned on and is set to Zero immediately after the power is turned off (resulting from rapid discharge). The negative voltage from Pin 5 is applied to the cathode of 07 through R24 together with another positive power voltage which is applied through R23. The cathode voltage of 07 is normally about -05V, so 09 and 010 are kept OFF. When the line voltage is switched OFF, the voltage at Pin 5 falls to OV quickly, and only the remaining positive power voltage is applied to the cathode of 07 through R23. Thus, 09 and 010 are turned ON.

When a voltage higher than + O.5V is applied to pin 3, 04 turns ON and then 01 and 03 also turn ON. Diodes 03. 04 and 010 remain OFF. When a voltage lower than -0.3V is applied to pin 3, diodes 03 and 04 conduct and the current is supplied to the base of 01, turning 01 and then 03 ON.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION (6)
NOR GATE AND POWER-ON POWER RELAY DRIVER AND VOLTAGE STABILIZER

CIRCUIT
Transistors 03, 06 and 010 are provided with common

connected collecters and emitters. The collector voltage in the normal state is about O.6V. (Here, we call this voltage level "H") If a voltage higher than O.6V is applied to the base of 03, 03 turns ON, and the collector voltage falls to about O.1V. (We call this voltage level "L") The same result is obtained when level "H" is input to the base of 06 or 0 10 instead of 03, and the output becomes

The DC power voltage supplied to the whose circuit except the relay driver is stabilized using 017, R 15 and Zl, and further made accurate by D 1 and D2 to become 1.3V. The output of 013 in Figure 14 is connected through R13 to emitter follower 015, which drives 016

"L".
This kind of circuit with multiple input terminals and a single output terminal, the output being "H" when all inputs are "L", and the output being "L" when at least one input is "H", is called a NOR gate. The NOR gate is generally expressed with a logical symbol, and the relation between multiple inputs and single output is presented in the "truth table". shown in Figure 13.

In Figure 14, the positive feedback is applied from the em itter of 013 to the base of 011 through R19 and the diode, in order to speed up and also stabilize the operation of 011,012 and 013. For the power-ON muting circuit. resistors Rs and Rx and capacitor Cs are connected to Pin 8. Among the six transistors only 013 is delayed in turning ON, since increasing the base voltage takes time as Cs is charged through Rs.
