PERSONAL STATEMENT
PLEASE EXPLAIN, IN UP TO 300 WORDS,
WHY YOU WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR
THE SCHOLARSHIP

My name is Nick Tailor, aged 16 from London. I wish to be

considered for the scholarship as I believe the course will be of
great benefit to me as a guitarist, musician and artist. I care very
much about my progress as a musician, and have ambitious goals
and aspirations which this course can help me achieve.
I am a dedicated practitioner of the guitar, and believe I am
independent and self-sufficient as a student of the instrument.
Being self-taught, I have spent the past five years honing my craft
and trying to learn everything there is to know through any means
possible, in an attempt to be the best I can be at what I do.
Inspired by guitarists such as Marty Friedman, Guthrie Govan and
Al Di Meola, I wish to find my own unique voice on the instrument
and transcend the stereotypical 'shred guitarist' label.
It's my belief that it's important be aware and to keep an open mind
to every genre of music and every other form of art. In addition, I
feel there is a constant need to work on your weaknesses. Some
of mine include my sense of rhythm, groove and sight reading
ability. I believe this course will help me turn these weaknesses
into strengths, making me a better rounded musician.
The main motive behind my practice, and ultimately my application
for this scholarship, is to express the music in my head the best I
can and to inspire others as my heroes have done to me. I plan to
do this through composition and improvisation. These two things
are a product of everything else I practice and for me, are the most
important aspects of music.
Thank you for considering my application.
