7th Annual Frank Haven Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament

The 7th Annual Frank Haven Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is just around the corner
The tournament began in 2007 when Francis E. Frank Haven Jr.s colleagues found a great
way to remember him. The Department of Computing and Telecommunication created the
scholarship to provide aid to students who are studying computer science or information systems
at NSU.
The scholarship is awarded twice a year in the amount of $1000 per semester.
Frank Haven served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and was married to Viola
Allen. He studied criminal justice in college and served 13 years on the Hamilton Police
Department in Ohio.
He was also a Lieutenant Reserved Deputy Sheriff for Cherokee County, posted on Frank
Haven Memorial Scholarship website. Frank was a retired law enforcement officer and worked
for the networking group at NSU from 1999-2005.
This is the 7-year for the memorial scholarship golf tournament.

We not only encourage NSU golfers to participate, but any NSU student to participate, said
Justin Norwood, head of tournament.
Registration for the tournament is a $50 personal entry fee, which include; lunch, green fee, cart
rental, and a gift bag provided by NSU. The Four Man Team fee is $500 and it includes four
free drink tickets.
Students interested in applying for the memorial scholarship must be full-time students who have
30+ hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
They must have a demonstrable need, posted on the website. A 2 page, typed and doublespaced essay with a cover page is required to apply. Applicants must write their essay
regarding, How technology will change your life and why you should be awarded the
scholarship.
Preferences for the scholarship applicants are; information technology services student workers
or technology related majors. Applicants are to provide a cover page providing a reachable
phone number.
The event will start at 9 a.m. on Oct. 4 at Sequoyah State Park in Hulbert and will be catered by
Rib Crib.
