MAJOR ACTIVITIES IN 2010

Before we break up for the Christmas Holidays, I wanted to write and tell you about the Major activities we have planned for 2010, so that you can start planning your finances, and summer holiday preparation can begin.

Boating Boating will continue to be undertaken at Victoria Docks in 2010. We hope to run a number of weekend courses in power-boating, sailing and kayaking. We have also identified some dates during the Easter break when, if available, we hope to run some courses.

Multi Activity Weekends There are plans to run one residential weekend per month at the Unit Headquarters, as well as at the Area Weekends held at Browndown Camp in Gosport.

Unit Summer Camp The Unit Summer Camp will be held at Pier Cellars, HMS RALEIGH, Plymouth from the evening of Thursday 29 July to Wednesday 4 August. The cost will be £75. Further details on activities will be published nearer the time. This is a well established and successful week offering a number of outdoor activities at an excellent cost.

District Summer Camp Surrey District Summer Camp, a boatwork week, will be held in Weymouth from Sunday 15 to Friday 20 August. Cost is to be confirmed, but will likely be around £75. Applications will be released by the District later in the year. Numbers will be limited as the course is open to all 9 Surrey Units. This is a well established boatwork week offering the opportunity to gain qualifications in a number of boating activities.

Unit Autumn Camp For the first time, the Unit will hold an Autumn camp during the October half term. We will be going to the Norfolk Broads from Saturday 23 to Saturday 30 October. The cost will be £120. This is a relaxed camp where cadets will live on house boats for the week, driving the boats and self-catering under supervision. It is an enjoyable holiday week and the cost offers exceptional value. Places are limited and deposits are required by the end of January.

Building on the success of 2009, I hope that 2010 will be a busy year, with staff offering a wide range of activities and opportunities for our cadets. Our success depends on your support, and I hope this early notice helps you to encourage your cadets to attend these activities, and to help you plan your own holidays and family outings. A more detailed calendar will be circulated soon.

All Cadets must return the attached proforma as soon as possible to assist with our planning.

Yours sincerely,

W A CLARKE Sub Lieutenant(SCC) RNR Commanding Officer
