Rose Hill School (Alderley) Cups & Trophies

A number of cups, trophies, shields & awards have
been gathered for redistribution following the change
from Rose Hill Westonbirt to Westonbirt Prep last
year. Many thanks to Debbie Stephenson, Anna
Davison, Clare Dixon & Tina Parsonage who have
been so helpful in organising their collection.
It is proposed that these should be made available in
the first instance to the original donor (if traceable) and
thereafter be open to claim from any interested party.
This may be a previous recipient or anyone keen on
Rose Hill memorabilia. We will ask for a nominal
donation to be made to the ORH Society.
In the event of more than one claim to a particular cup
/ trophy, sealed bids will be sought by
31st December 2014
If no one claims a cup / trophy, it will go to Wotton
Auction Rooms for sale (probably for scrap value) in
early 2015, proceeds to the ORH Society

Talia (centre) in Romania

The Old Rosehillians Society,

Charity Number XT27904

Please Note: not all the cups & trophies have been
recovered, some were not returned in 2010 but there
are about 50 items which may be of interest please
ask Jo Barry for more details.

Charitable Donations
Fundraising last year was limited to the ORH Day in June 2013 when 200 was raised from
raffle & refreshments, all of which was given to the Guys & St Thomass Charity in memory
of Sara Falkenburg. During the last year and a half (since the last newsletter), despite no
fundraising as such, we have made a number of further donations to local, national &
international charities, each considered & approved by the committee:
- 250 to Alderley Parish Council
- 250 to Friends of Alderley Church
- 250 to Blue Coat Primary School, Wotton-under-Edge
- 250 to The British School, Wotton-under-Edge
- 250 to Westonbirt Prep School to fund the purchase of cups & trophies
- 50 to Talia Overton (left Rose Hill 2009) for The Romania Project (see over)
- 50 to Emma Hetherington (left Rose Hill 2005) for Moroccan Childrens Trust

- 50 to Jo Barry (former parent) for The RNLI (just water to drink for 2 weeks)

The Old Rosehillians Society currently maintains a healthy bank balance.

Patricia Bell Retirement

The ORH Society was pleased to be able to mark
the retirement of a long-serving & much loved
member of staff, Pat Bell earlier this year by a
gift of a bulrush garden sculpture & a beautiful
pink William Shakespeare shrub rosebush in a
planter from Highgrove. Pat was at Rose Hill for
many years as an Art teacher & much, much
more. Always bright & cheerful she was a
pleasure to work with & a joy for parents &
pupils alike. All good wishes for your retirement!

Memories of a bygone age

William Gueterbock writes: Jeremy Chittenden was at Rosehill with me from the
first term at Alderley in the autumn of 1939. For many years they rented the
National Trust house Lytes Carey Manor. A memory of Rosehill during the war is
Jeremys father coming down in his car fuelled by a charcoal burner towed on a
trailer, when petrol for private use was unavailable. I recall that eventually the
charcoal burner trailer went up in flames and destroyed the car as well!

And Finally
It is with sadness that The Old Rosehillians Society voted unanimously at the last AGM that
whilst there is merit in maintaining links between Old Rosehillians all over the world via
social media & email, the financial aspect of the Society has really run its course.
In the circumstances, we propose using residual funds towards a Summer Ball in 2015 with
any closing balance being donated to local, national or international causes.
If you are interested in attending such an event as a final hurrah to Rose Hill School,
Alderley then let us know as we are keen to assess how many would be likely to come.
The main cost of such an event would be the venue unless we can identify somewhere
(local to Rose Hill if possible) willing & able to accommodate up to 200 for a nominal fee.
If you have any ideas or would like to be involved in the planning of such an event,
please do contact me on 0780 130 4323
