The housing, next to food and clothing, satisfies one of the basic needs of man
for centuries. Every society has naturally introduced the housing that needs. Housing
unit is a residential area with homogeneous characteristics which encourages the
social life.
Now a days,it has become practically became impossible even for the higher
class of the society to have a detached house in a thickly populated city area. This
has led to the concept of apartments or flats.
GENERAL ASSUMPTIONS : :
According to the case studies we have done we have made some
assumptions for the areas required and also facilities to be provided such as
recreational, circulation, parking spaces etc.
The minimum area required for a MIG is 80 sqm which consists of 2
bedrooms (1 with area 3.5X4.5 and another with area 3.0X3.5), 1 living room
(3.5X4.8), 1kitchen (2.0X2.5), 2 toilets and balconies minimum.
The minimum area required for a HIG is 100 sqm consists of 3 bedrooms (1
with area 3.5X4.5 and child bedroom with area 3.0X3.5, guest bedroom with area
3.0X3.5), 1 living room (6.0X4.0), 1kitchen (3.0X2.5), 2 toilets and balconies
minimum.
Adequate circulation spaces, roads, path ways are to be provided for free
movement.
Along with these facilities like parking spaces, recreational space such as
parks and playgrounds, commercial spaces like general stores, hospitals and some
educational institutions are to be provided. All these facilities to be provided
depended on the area of the housing society.
CONCEPT : :
We have been given the task of designing a housing society which includes at
least 380 dwelling units and all other adequate requirements in an area of 35,200
sqm with minimum setbacks of 6m on all side which has roads passing on south and
west side.
