Short Profile:
Junaid Alam Memon is an Assistant Professor of Development Studies at Pakistan Institute of
Development Economics (PIDE), Islamabad. Currently, he chairs the department of Environmental
Economics and had been the founding chair of the department of Development Studies at PIDE during
2011-2013. He has a doctorate in Regional and Rural Development Planning from the Asian Institute of
Technology, Thailand. He had been a medalist during his Masters in Rural Development from Sindh
Development Studies Centre Jamshoro. He has also possessed a four years degree in business
administration from the Institute of Business Administration, Jamshoro. Since the last two years, he has
been serving the International Society of Environment and Rural Development (ISERD), Japan as the
Regional Vice President. Besides, he had the honor of serving as a member of scientific committees and
session chair at various international conferences in Southeast Asia and Europe. More recently, the
ISERD council nominated him to represent the Society in the 4th International Symposium Agrosym 2013
organized by the University of East Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Junaids research interests
revolve around the themes related to the nexus between society, environment and natural resources.
Currently, he is supervising researches related to non-market valuation, rural livelihood and nature
conservation. Junaid has published on water and forest policy issues in reputable scholarly journals. His
article titled The Indus Irrigation System, Natural Resources, and Community Occupational Quality in the
Delta Region of Pakistan was featured at the cover-page of Environmental Management a highly
prestigious journal published by Springer Verlag, New York. He has presented his research, in various
countries of Asia, Europe and Africa. Junaid visions for a placement where he can engage himself in
policy oriented, relevant in time and space and impartial research.
