Introduction
Definition:
Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in
competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of
the competitor are the sole or primary determinant of the outcome (winning or losing),
but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports (a common name for
some card games and board games with little to no element of chance) and motor
sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.
Football is the name of several similar team sports, all of which involve (to varying
degrees) kicking a ball with the foot in an attempt to score a goal. The most popular
of these sports worldwide is association football, more commonly known as just
"football" or "soccer". However the word football is applied to whichever form of
football became most popular in each particular part of the world.
Women’s and girls’ football continues to grow with more players competing in
affiliated competition than any other team sport. Women football has become popular
in the last several years and in Colleges, universities, high schools and clubs across
Pakistan several girls have joined the football teams and according to Director
Operations of PFF, “girls and learning more faster and better then boys”. However,
finding information about girl’s football on the Internet has proved to be quite the
challenge. It is because lack of knowledge about women football teams, hardly few
people knows that women football teams are active in Pakistan.
Women's association football has been played for a long time, but was associated with
charity games and physical exercise in the past before the breakthrough of organized
women's association football came in the 1970s. Before the 1970s, association
football was mostly seen as a men's game. Association football is the most prominent
team sport for women in a few countries, and one of the few women's team sports
with professional leagues.
The growth in women's football has seen major competitions being launched at both
national and international level. For more information see Women's football around
the world and International competitions in women's football respectively. Women's
football faced many struggles throughout its fight for right. Although the women's
football had its first golden age in the UK in early 1920s when at least 5,000
spectators came to watch, but this was stopped on 5 December 1921 when England's
Football Association voted to ban the game from grounds used by its member clubs.
The ban was cancelled in July 1971.
Sport England’s Active People survey in 2008 highlighted that 260,000 women and
1.1 million girls play some form of football in England. There are 26 million females
playing across the world, of which 4.1 million are playing affiliated football – this is a
3
54% growth since the year 2000 (FIFA Big Count 2006).
Pakistan Sports Board was established under the Ministry of Education through the
Sports (Development and Control) Ordinance, 1962 as a corporate body for the
purposes of promoting and developing uniform standards of competition in sports in
Pakistan comparable to the standards prevailing internationally, and regulating and
controlling football in Pakistan on a national basis.
There has been an increase in the number of players, clubs, leagues and competitions
since few years; the number of players has increased from a small range to a large.
The women’s footballs history in Pakistan is not so long, it is just have been started in
Pakistan. Pakistan’s women football teams have played so many matches on the
provincial level college levels, district levels and cities levels.
According to Operational Director of PFF “the football is just 5 years old baby in
Pakistan” so we can sketch a rough estimation that women football is on very initial
stage of its growth and success.
In 2007 FIFA Technical Advisor Holger Obermann visited Pakistan and comment
that his third visit to Pakistan is morale boosting activity for the young footballers and
boys are trained to improve their skill, especially movement with the ball and
dribbling. For the power, he said, appropriate diet has been recommended to the
players to use as the game needs power and best food to enhance the out-built of the
players.
There are 4 female referees have been trained to play as a side referees.
The Board has a General Body, with its Headquarters at Islamabad. The General
Body consists of 35 members. It lays down the policy and 12 members Executive
Committee implements this policy.
Pakistan Sports Board being the supreme body of sports monitors the activities/affairs
of National Sports Federations affiliated to it and ensure proper utilization of annual
and special grants given by the Board. The annual grants are released to the National
Federations to meet their day to day expenses whereas special grants are meant for
participation and holding of international sports events. These grants are
allocated/approved by the Executive Committee of Pakistan Sports Board keeping in
view the popularity of games, achievements of international level and activities of the
Federations. At present, 40 National Sports Federations are affiliated with the Board.
Each Federation is responsible for promotion and development of its respective
game/sports.
That was the body of sports as a whole department however structure of women
football association is smaller then the whole sports.
There are 5 championships which have been so far won by they national and
provincial level teams by female footballers. There are total 26 clubs in the Pakistan
who are serving the nation and devoted and talented up coming female players.
According to director of operations national team have been finalised by the authority
of women football association and there is a best and young raising footballer at the
time is Shanelala. She is only 14 years. The girls who have been selected for the
national team are mostly from the clubs. Pakistani women football team is hopefully
going to play in Dhaka. However they have already played 2 international matches
one in Syria the other is in Australia.
And our team is on the 34th level in Asia, in a short span of time that is an amazing
achievement.
Conclusion:
The women soccer is new in Pakistan and in order to put scattered girls into firm
platform, Academies are required. The base of football in most of the highly-reputed
soccer countries revolved around Academies and if Pakistan want to gain height in
soccer, more Academies, like Model Town Football Academy (MTFA), should erupt
from Pakistan soil to take soccer to new height in this part of the world. It will take
time, but we must be devoted and sincere to our passion football, and it will take us to
the heights.
We need to bring up more female referees, coaches and more honest and sincere
players. No doubt football is becoming popular in Pakistan and new generation is
5
taking interest in it however we need to break our cultural and traditional boundaries
to bring the female players in the ground. If we are not coming out and playing for our
country then we should also stop criticising that our team is not playing well and so
on.
Our government should also give attention to women football association in order to
facilitate and make the more enhancements.
