Dear National Chief

RE:

NOTICE OF NON-CONSENT TO AFN TO ENGAGE IN FIRST NATIONS EDUCATION

This letter is intended as a formal call on the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) to cease and desist
in all further activity in regard to First Nation Education. If necessary such legal action may be
required to stop such actions.
As it currently stands AFN has failed to consult and seek the consent of the collective rights
holders on First Nation Education and the collateral issues to it. AFN including Chiefs in
Assembly have not obtained the required authority from affected group(s) to negotiate, in any
manner, with the Federal government in regard to education.
As a Treaty rights holder, I do not consent to the current process identified in the AFN First
Nations Funding Framework or any related mechanisms that will cause harm to my Treaty
right(s) to Education and domesticate our sacred internationally recognized Treaty.
I had the opportunity to watch the AFN election through livestream and heard you talk about
AFN not being a rights holder I am kindly reminding you of that today as the AFN seeks to pass
a resolution to have a mandate to move forward on the proposed Framework for a Federal Act
for Funding First Nations Education. As a mother, I respectfully ask you to think about our
children and future generations when making any decisions impacting our future just as our
ancestors thought about us to be here today. What will be the legacy you/ we will leave for our
children into the future?

In the spirit of Treaty,

Janice Makokis B.A., M.A., L.L.B
Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Treaty No. 6
