Change!

Leaders for Active Participation

info-sheet &
call for partners

We believe that each new young generation holds the key to co-create a better world.
With fresh innovative ideas, perspectives and an tremendous need for (online)
connection, the current generation of young people are extremely promising to be
leaders of change. With the project Change! Leaders for active participation
laboratory (CLAP Lab) we aim to improve the capability of these young people
to make a change in society through a youth leadership development
programme.
Discussing the concepts and the need for a youth leadership programme we identified a
variety of understandings. We realized that we have to take in account the different
personal and organizational points of view. The process of sharing ideas, exploring
different approaches and to find strengths and weaknesses in the different
perspectives concerning youth leadership was interesting. Since all of us work in
youth run organizations or with youth run projects the variety of needs where
comprehensive and it was a true journey to transform them in a coherent youth
leadership development programme. Luckily we also found huge similarities and the
result is the CLAP Lab youth leadership programme which;

stimulates young people to make a change in society

builds up a leadership attitude among our youngsters that stimulates the bottomup decision-making process instead of top down
stimulates young people to guide or direct others in a course of action, influence
their opinion and behavior and show the way by going in advance
offers young people the experience, understanding and practice of different kinds
of leadership during training and exchanges.

CLAP Lab is an international multi-measure project dedicated to train the young people
of our organizations to develop their leadership skills and create change in society. Youth
leadership benefits both the youngsters itself and the society as a whole. Using a
combination of training, exchanges and evaluation we constructed an experiential &
cross cultural leadership programme that integrates the different needs & objectives of
all partner organizations.

How will it happen?

CLAP Lab will take place during a 4 months period, from the end of July 2015 till the end
of November 2015 and consists of 4 activities:
1. 21th - 28th of July Training Course in the Netherlands
2. 21st - 29th of August Youth Exchange for participants who are 13-18 y.o., in Italy
3. 10th - 20th October Youth Exchange for participants who are 18-25 y.o., in Italy
4. 25th - 29th of November Evaluation Meeting in the Netherlands
Every trainee will have to attend the training course on leadership, one of the youth
exchanges to practise the knowledge, skills and attitude acquired during the training
course and the evaluation meeting to assess their learning and applicability in the
local reality. As mentioned, the trainees attend one of the youth exchange as group
leaders. In consultation with the partner organisation we choose which of the exchanges
fits best with the needs and profile of your organisation. Besides the traineeship for
young leader we thus also offer a youth exchanges for participants to be send by your
organisation.
With this leadership programme we aim for a sustainable impact on the leadership skills
of trainees and the quality of the partner organisations. It is therefore essential that both
trainees and you as a partner organisation can commit for this intense programme.

What trainees are we expecting?

between the age of 18-25 and in one way or the other involved into your organisation
on a more regular basis (doesnt have to be a volunteer, could be a regular
participant, who has been outgrowing other participants and has the potential to do
more)
personally interested and motivated to contribute to your organization more or has a
great potential to do so
has more than a basic level of English

is available to take part in the training course, one of the youth exchanges and the
evaluation meeting
is willing to use the gained skill in favour of his/her community and beyond

What is expected from our partners?

to be working in the field of youth on a more regular basis (either with youngsters
above or under 18 years old)
working with youngsters/peer educators/ young volunteers who are advancing in
their development and could potentially do more within the organisation
have the capacity to guide and support the trainees in the learning process and give
encouragement to use the attained skills within the organization and the local
community.
to be fully committed to this intense programme, being able to support both the
trainees that attend the full programme and the youngters that attend one of the
youth exchanges

What will it cost for partners/ participants?

Food and shelter will be covered 100%

Your travel costs will be reimbursed according to the new funding rules. Since some
of the countries are really in a disadvantaged situation due to these new funding
rules (no access to low cost airlines) we might elaborate on a more fair distribution of
the travel budget.
We have a participation fee of 50 EUR (a one time fee for both, the CLAP Lab
trainees, and the participants of the youth exchanges) since nothing in life is for free
and The Netherlands/ Italy are quite expensive for project implementation. We also
truly believe, that a minor contribution gives a different value to the commitment.

(as we are very aware that the financial situation of every organisation is rather
different, we are open for a conversation about the fee, as it shouldnt be a barrier for
your participation)

Who are we? And why do we believe in this programme?

CLAP Lab! is an initiative of Associazione Joint from Italy & The Youth Company from The
Netherlands. During previous collaborations we found out that we shared one important
passion and that is to empower young people to make a change in society. Our shared
dream was the development of this youth leadership programme that stimulates
engagement, horizontal and sustainable participation of young people.
The Youth Company supports young people to take initiative and create sustainable
futures for themselves and their communities by providing education through training
activities, intercultural exchanges and talent development opportunities. We offer a
learning environment that challenges young people to be curious, creative,
entrepreneurial & engaged.
Associazione Joint is a social promotion organization active since 10 years, offering
young people opportunities for international mobility and intercultural learning. Joint
works with projects focused on non-formal education and intercultural learning for
youngsters between 18 and 30 years old including young people with socio-economic
disadvantages or disabilities.
